  1. Forgot to add one of the most important things. Don't be afraid of several dnf's. Set a time limit per hunt. We would look for no more than 10min, sometimes less, depended on the circumstances. If you're going to have to wait for a muggle to move on it could be awhile.
  2. Sorry, I did NOT specifically mean "your" city. I meant the city where the cache hider's hides were. The original deletion's were last month of Muthers logs as she states in her OP because they were too long. She was allowed to relog SL. This time it was our finds from just 2 days ago. I guess what really torqued us off was that we received an email from another hider, before we were even finished caching and hadn't even started logging to please not make such long logs. Well I had no idea 125 words was too long and I began logging. Then I was told to shorten them, keep the orig. stuff, the c+p had to go and please dont put 1 of whatever, 2 of etc. Then I was told I was taking up too much space on the logs and if I persisted I would be deleted. Just stating the facts and enjoying the discussion.
  3. I love power caching. But you have to build up to it. I think my first big day was 32, then 45, then 61(included 2 events-one only 7min long), soon 68 and 90 and then the big one 137 before Midnight. Thats the only honest way to do it. If it's after midnight its the next day unless you drive to a different time zone. Find a cache dense area with a lot of PNGs. City worked out best for us. Area with many frontage roads, dead end roads and other assorted roadside right of ways. Most caches were only .15 or .25 apart which can be driven in like a minute. Run a query several days before. Evaluate all possible routes minimizing backtracking. Start sorting through the caches. Remove anything with more than .10 walk from parking or has had 2 dnfs unless theres a recent maintenance. If you want #'s you dont want to waste your time on a cache that might be missing. Also get rid of ones that may be further away from the cluster than you like for that run. Also No cabooses, trains, tanks, planes, wagons. It is imperitive to plan the route that will minimize your mileage. If you just punch up the next closest cache, you'll be driving in circles. Cache with a partner, 1 works best. Hopefully one of you is a really good navigator. Split up and search twice as much in the same time. Too many cachers and it hinders the search. One person signs for both, faster than handing the log over. Plan to hit the area at sunrise. If that is 6am and you have a 3hr dr. Leave at 3am. If you prefer daylight wait until June. Laptop works best. Navigator tells driver where to go and reads next cache description and logs and hints if you are so inclined to use them. Helps to be familiar with the hider's styles you're hunting. Pack a cooler and have food with you. CAFFEINE. I like Barq's and Lipton Extra Sweet Tea. Muther likes Coca-cola. The only times you stop-Gas and Bathroom. Physically I find women can go longer without eating or bathroom breaks than the average guy. Have all geotools readily accessible. Mini pliers, tweezers, Grabber, hiking pole, magnet on stick, extra batteries, giant screwdriver, flashlights(at least 3), pens(at least 3), extra logs for the wet ones, wet wipes, etc. Own a Jeep. It can turn a few walks into PNGs. Also might help to have a phone-a-friend for the area although we didn't. Thats how we did it. Thats all I can think of right now. Good Luck.
  4. So are cachers that don't log at all disrespectful too? Yes you took the time to hide it and maintainance it. And I took the time to drive to your city 3hrs each way and took the time to find it. Now some people stop there. But no, I took the time to write a log, albeit only 50% original. I find that more respectful than TNLNSL. I have a lot of hobbies and have set most aside to have fun with this one. Everyone plays the game their own way. Why some feel like ruining it I don't understand. I'm not as creative as Muther so I love reading her logs. Hubby even gets excited when I read them to him. Not to get off topic but, I got a log today that many owners would delete. It said "Found it but couldn't sign it because it was frozen in place". Well if that's the way he wants to play, fine by me. If I don't sign it, I don't log it, return in warmer weather. We had a few of those the other day.
  5. No, its not always about the numbers but sometimes it is. And yes I enjoy the long hikes and nice hides deep in the bushwhack and multis and great views and unique experiences. I also have a great time on a day long numbers run with my best geo-buddy. When its cold, wet and snowy, I like PNGs. When you string 100 PNGs together that had only a few variations and not much to see, The real story and experience here is the day you spent with a friend. And that is the same for every cache. Again, I try to think of something unique but I dont take notes usually and sometimes I forget 1 or 2. Just because I cant remember or think of something creative doesn't mean I didn't have fun hunting it. And copy+paste is not really any faster, at least not for me, so I don't see how that is lazy. It takes me longer to log than it does to find usually. I'm still logging our finds from the other day with a 50% c+p ratio. Apparantly I have shortened it enough that I'm not under threat of deletion any more. Sitting at a computer typing all day is lazy. Going out geocaching is getting your bootie moving. I do understand why a lot of cachers don't log, I'll never ask why not, ever again.
  6. Unfortunately a lot of these cache hides felt like copy+paste hides. Nano on guardrail(too many times). Nano on Fire Hydrant(prob. 10 x's). Bison tube in ledge at bus stop (at least 6 times). Nano on sign post(too many times). Caches PNG just off ROW, not much to see, not much can happen. As a society are we really too lazy to "scroll". Sorry this doesn't cut it as a reason.
  7. Forgot to add- I really hate conforming. FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We do still have that in this country right? 3 of my favorite quotes for your reading pleasure. "Without free speech no search for truth is possible... no discovery of truth is useful... Better a thousandfold abuse of free speech than denial of free speech. The abuse dies in a day, but the denial slays the life of the people, and entombs the hope of the race." ~Charles BRADLAUGH "Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one’s thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down. They know its power. " ~Frederick DOUGLASS "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it." ~Francois Marie Arouet VOLTAIRE
  8. MutherAndSun's caching partner chiming in here. Now my logs are nowhere near as long(maybe 100 words) and usually only 1/2 copy + paste. I have been told the copy+paste part has to go and please don't put 1 of 44, #2 of 44, etc. First, the copy+paste part is usually the summary of the day's trip. Same day, same experience right? When you drive 3hrs to an area to cache, we try to stay as long as humanly possible and find as many as we can. Gas prices, you know. Anyway, some of them blend together and they are all part of the same experience. I try to write something about each individual one but when you're at the 25th guardrail or 10th fire hydrant signing a nano and nothing happened in the .15mi prior to the cache and nothing happened in the .18 mi to the next PNG, what exactly am I supposed to say? I dislike just TFTC or Found it logs unless it was a really crappy cache. If there are additional logging requirements then they should all be mystery caches. I may have to join the cache owner boycott, which is really sad.
  9. Well I already told her in person, but CONGRATULATIONS. I fortunately had the pleasure of tagging along for the big find and several others throughout her caching career.
  10. Gas is our biggest expense. Magellan 400 GPSr -- Free - Company service award gift Mapsend Software - $100 Magellan+Mapsend came with all the caching software I need so no need for GSAK or cachemate and I use the free MobiPocket reader for the Palm. Since starting we've spent 2 hiking sticks - $20 Hubby hiking boots - Free company work boot program My hiking boots - $130 Blank poker chips and wooden nickels to make signature items. - $50 Speeding ticket because I was looking at GPSr while driving - $75 New Jeep doesn't count because I would've bought it even if I wasn't caching. You can really spend as much or as little as you want.
