  1. I performed the Garmin-provided update to my DeLorme PN-60 last night. Everything proceeded as advertised and now the PN-60 has the correct date. The old fellow has held up well over the years of abuse fun and still gets us close enough to hunt geocaches and find the car. The recent update was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for all for the wise advice regarding the update and my cable situation. When the cable does fail completely, I'll follow CowboySlim's recommendations and continue to use our PN-60 until it FTFs the electronic recycling bin (or is inducted into The Waysider's Old Gadgets Hall of Fame). I performed the WD-40 procedure on the retractable pins on the data cable and noticed an immediate improvement. I was sure that it was a broken wire, as has happened many times in the past, but it is working and charging for now. By the way, I'm still using an old CabBat that doesn't hold a charge like it used to but gamely tries to keep up like a favorite coon dog that is getting on in years. I'm not ready to say goodbye to the DeLorme and CabBat just yet. Thanks again! Jim The Waysiders
  2. I'm happy I stumbled on this post. Thank you! My PN-60 still works but the "1999" date is a bit disconcerting. I'll try the update tonight when I get home. Now if I could just find a replacement data/recharging cable …. Jim The Waysiders P.S. I sure do miss the old DeLorme forum with CowboySlim, LugNut, Twolpert, TotemLake and the gang. I still have my "Serious Tool" t-shirt.
  3. Thanks again. I've also noticed I am unable to add attributes to the cache pages. After selecting them they vanish upon saving the updated cache page.
  4. Geocaching Twitter account says "All services are back to normal, thank you for your patience. Happy geocaching!" However, attempting to edit and save an unpublished geocache page still results in Error 500.
  5. Thanks, Cindy! Jim The Waysiders Going Caching Crew
  6. With the decision to remove the state/country from user profiles, what will be the affect on other sites such as cacherstats.com and project-gc.com? Specifically, how will they know what state/country a cachers resides in order to rank by state/country?
  7. The same situation on our Going Caching Crew account which hosts the Going Caching Mega Event. Caches Hidden: Traditional..124 Multi-cache...10 Letterbox .....5 Event Cache...29 CITO...........4 Mega Event.....4 Mystery Cache.14 Lab Cache......9 Total Caches Owned ..3,064
  8. We have not seen an emailed newsletter in ages (Comcast.net)
  9. It isn't geocaching.com itself. It is the "Send to My GPS" designed by DeLorme that needs updating for Explorer 11. If you click on "Tools" and then "Compatability Mode" the plug in will work and you can successfully send geocaches to your PN-60.
  10. Here is our little spin on the February fun: I ♥ Geocaching Event
  11. After installing Internet Explorer 11, I am having problems with the DeLorme plug-in. A quick work-around is to select "Tools" on the browser and then select "Compatibility Settings". Once I add geocaching.com to the compatibility list, the DeLorme plug-in loads and sends the cache to the PN-60. Hopefully, DeLorme will have an update soon that works with IE 11. Jim
  12. We are no longer receiving newsletters either.
  13. +1 i totally agree... So, this lemon walks into a bar and says to an olive ....
  14. While I would recommend investing in a good handheld GPSr before hiding caches, you can get coordinates as you have done and check them by plotting in Google Earth. Even Google Earth can be off a bit in different parts of the country, but it should get coordinates close enough for people to hunt. In your case, if your cache is behind the guardrail on the north side of the road at the base of the third tree, you have excellent coordinates. Puzzler of ... The Waysiders
  15. We are headed to Skidaway in the morning to begin getting the park ready. We're Going Coastal ... arrgh!
  16. Going Coastal ... arrgh! GC2V68Q Going Coastal ... arrgh! is a series of 12 geocaching events from November 10-13, 2011 in and around Savannah, GA. Last year, we had almost 400 individuals sign the log book! Please visit the Going Coastal ... arrgh! cache page and our Going Coastal ... arrgh! website for more details.
  17. I've noticed that when I now download caches to my PN-40 using the "send to GPS", the child waypoints are no longer included. I haven't experienced any problems with the cache information, just the additional waypoints (parking, etc.).
  18. Here's one near me. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ff-1afd41ccec61
  19. What about scuba and NASA? We say "scoob-uh and "Nas -uh"
  20. We agree with the OP sentiment also. We've stated we'll not renew our premium membership if this trend continues and all mystery caches are banned. With us, it's not exactly geocide, but more like "come any closer and I'll jump!"
  21. No, Radman Forever, it's not just you. Our fear is that this leads to one flavor of ice cream -- vanilla.
  22. We don't own an ALR cache, but if we did, that is what we would do -- archive it rather than water it down. Sad too, that this is probably the tip of the regulation iceberg. We've seen it coming in Geocaching.com for some time. Less freedom, more and more restriction. Puzzle caches are probably next thing to go and that is when we drop our premium membership. Perhaps geocaching.com is in some serious need of competition from a new, free-spirited website. Hmmm, this would open up a whole new world of cache placements, would it not?
