  1. I have an Etrex Vista Hcx for sale with two problems. Problem one: The lanyard got caught in the wheel spokes on my bike and broke the lanyard and the little doodad that you use to hold the lanyard on. Problem two: The screen has some scratches on it which are in the photos below. I don't treat my GPS units too kindly, I'm afraid. http://gallery.me.com/kit_n_kaboodle#10014...p;bgcolor=black http://gallery.me.com/kit_n_kaboodle#10014...p;bgcolor=black (Apparently, I can't directly link to Mobile Me from here.) Except for the lanyard, everything is included. It has the latest firmware (3.00) so if you want to use a microSD card, it must be formatted at FAT 32.(If not correctly formatted, the unit will not shut down correctly, emitting a low hum. No problems if no card in the unit.) I will also include the Topo 2008 DVD but you will have to supply the card. Cost: $100 CONUS and Paypal only. Shipping included (UPS Cround.) My Email is: kit_n_kaboodle@me.com
  2. You say the Delorme site is useless but did you notice the link to the forums. Here it is: Delorme PN30/40 Lots of knowledgeable owners ready and willing to answer your questions. Thanks to you both. Maybe I will restore BootCamp and Vista onto my Imac. Steve
  3. Plus I have a Mac. Any difficulties there? The Delorme site is useless AFAICT. How good is the TOPO map and can routes be made with it? Does it do paperless GeoCaching? How? I am told it doesn't allow GPS files. Questions, questions. My interest is that the feeling is that the unit is VERY accurate.
  4. I went to 3.00 (Vista Hcx) and have the shutdown problem. The catch is my card us a Sandisk 2 gb card but it is already preloaded with CN NT 2008 so it's not like I can reformat.
  5. They are scratches and nicks, not cracks. Colorado 400t another view
  6. 1)Buy Ipod Touch, Buy the cheapest one if you don't want to us the Ipod for any other reason. 2)Download Itunes' 3)From Itunes, use the Itunes store to buy the Application "Geocaching" for about 10 bucks. I do not personally use this program and it won't do everything it is capable of with an Iphone 3G but it seems like it will to quite a lot. You need to have a wifi connection to use it.
  7. What he said I don't use the Apple Ecosystem but as I understand it you buy the application vai the Apple App store using iTunes. Short of hacking your Touch you are limited to buying software that way.
  8. NOW $250. C'mon, it's still a good GPS in spite of the scratches.
  9. My understanding of the specs is that it will. You have to have some WiFi access though plus the $10 GeoCaching software. Thats what I needed to know. Will it show the desc., hints? I want to load this for paperless.
  10. I have an Ipod Touch 2g and parts of the Groundspeak application will NOT work since the Touch does not have GPS capability. However, it can load the .Gpx files into the Touch and you will have access to the Description, some logs and the hint. This may help as a Bridge to your GPS. I hope this helps.
  11. The scratches are noticeable on the LCD. Here's maybe a better view. Colorado 400t
  12. I'm looking for a 400t, how much do you want for it? Best price on ebay for a new one is roughly $360. Been watching the auctions go by to see what I should bid for. What are you asking? $250 shipped and paypalled. As I mentioned it has scratches on the bottom of the body and some scratches on the bottom of the LCD. Go to the Garage Sale section and search for colorado 400t my handle is kit'n'kaboodle. The listing has a closeup of the scratches.
  13. It's excellent for geocaching. No more dragging printouts along. It has description, recent logs and Hints, if any. It is a bit quirkier than earlier models but only easy, once you get used to it. The T model has the 2008 Topo map. I have one for sale (I now have an Oregon) which has some scratches (no cracks!) on it. Such search Colorado 400t. Kit'n'Kaboodle
  14. I guess people find the flaws a but on the unacceptable side; I can't say that I blame them. How does $275 paypalled and shipped to the lower 48 sound? Kit'n'Kaboodle
  15. This unit works perfectly fine but has flaws as can be seen in the photo. The most important are the scratches on the LCD. Comes with everything that came in the box. I have deleted geocaches, tracks and waypoints but I did NOT restore all the defaults. I am selling because I have the Oregon and I just don't ned them both. (The Oregon has scratches on the LCD as well. I will only ship to the Lower 48 to those who have a Paypal account and a confirmed address. Price is $325 complete.
  16. This 60Csx has no scratches on the screen and very slight wear on the buttons. You can still easily read them. The box contains everything EXCEPT the belt clip which broke. The Topo US Mapsource CDs can be used with any Garmin unit that allows mapping. The microSD card is currently blank. Mac Users can install some free programs that will allow them to use the MapSource but, if memory serves, you have to create these Mac readable files on a WIndows box and then copy them to a FAT32 formatted device (external hard drive, large memory card, etc). Someone correct this if I am wrong. How does $200 sound, Paypal only and free shipping to CONUS only.
  17. If the compass needle is not moving, you probably don't have the compass activated. This will automatically happen once the compass is calibrated (something you NEED to do after batteries are removed from the unit.) To save battery power, the compass can be turned off. This can be done under Setup ... Heading ... Compass Auto/Compass Off (toggle). _________________________________________ When you select a geocache, either from the map page or from the list of caches, you see the cache parameters overlaid on the map page. This is where you see the green Go button. Before selecting Go, you can view the cache description, see the 5 most recent logs, and see the hint. To select Go, you need to press the center button on the Rock N' Roller. This enables geocaching mode and will give you the opportunity to use a mini-map/compass screen and all the caching screens. When you see a white band across the middle of the screen "Dist to Dest" and "Time to Dest", separated by a red arrow, you can toggle between three different sub-screens by moving UP/DOWN using only the rocker switch. Rolling will zoom in and out of the map. I personally like the mini-compass/map sub-screen. This allows you to see both map and compass and know how far you are from the cache. When you get closer (200 - 100 feet or so), you can switch to the full-screen compass. Here, I normally display time of day, distance to destination, GPS accuracy, and time of sunset. This tells me at-a-glance information about that moment and lets me decide where to go next. (I found the cache at this time. I have so many hours/minutes until sundown. My GPS signal is degrading/improving as I do this. I'm this close to the cache. This is where I need to be heading.) Thanks for that detailed explanation. This 'unlocks' features I was unaware of. One thing, however, is not clear. THe compass was set to AUTO in setup but still seemed not to work, even level. Is it absolutely necessary to calibrate it? With the 60csx, you could turn the compass off and the compass display was still accurate and you didn't need it to be level. Now, I know I calibrated it but (and haven't changed batteries) but it still doesn't change the direction as I move. Is there something else I am missing?
  18. ALthough I love the Colorado, especially the paperless Geocaching, I have a question and a problem. When you call up a cache, there is a green GO in the lower-right hand corner. Does this have a function? Also, the compass seems frozen: the pointer never changes, even when I change direction. However, the distance from the cache works correctly, as does speed. What gives?
  19. A better way with the Ipod is to enable disk use which also enables Notes. Then you can export the GPX files directly into your IPOD. Then you can use your address book in its intended use: addresses! Warning: does not work on the Touch (at least not yet).
  20. One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that the 76 has the spring loading mechanism that the Vista HCx has while the 60 has a REALLY crappy clip mechanism that often comes loose and my maps are suddenly gone.
