I think Nuvi 500 is best all around GPS for both auto navigating and geocaching, but there are some compromises done so it is not the best if you compare it to those that are consider as best gps's in their field. Like Oregons are top of the line in Outdoor gps. 500 also misses some feature from the best auto navigators. But it has something that those best don't have. We are mostly searching caches in urban areas or suburban areas so in there i think nuvi 500 is like fish in a water. I 've sold my Colorado 300 to get this nuvi 500 and don't regret that I did that. I noticed that I mainly needed autonavigator that I didn't get from Colorado. So now I have Nuvi 500 and my good old gpsmap 60cx for backup. I find myself using nuvi mostly now. I use 60cx when making a new cache because it has averaging function, and it feels a bit more accurate. But I have't really tested that. It is just a feel. You can add new POI's easily and navigate to that. Coordinates are very easy to input with big touch screen so that even multicaches are very enjoyable to search. If using GPX files Geocaches comes then with descriptions and last logs like in Oregon or Colorado and they have their own icons that can be seen both on map and on cache page aswell. It has also feature to log your finds so that finds can be uploaded as Field notes. 500 has very simple menus so it is very easy to use and navigate. I like that there is Wherigo also, even there are very few of those in our area. I like 500 as car navigator so that I can drive to the cache and it gives voice intructions so that you don't need to look at it all the time. My experieces with car navigating are good when settings are ok. If they are not one can find roads that woudn't know even exist. Compass arrow is bit slow, but that is because it doesn't have inner compass so it depends that you are moving so that it can point the right direction.. In my experiences that issue is not that different compared to Colorado when its inner compass was turned off. 60cx don't have inner compass either and I prefered to use Colorado that way also. When navigating in forests I use mainly arrow on map page so I can orienteer with the map at same time. And that is great as screen is big. Still screen can be very hard to read in bright sunlight. I've noticed that Nuvi 500 sometimes crashes when trying to find geocache with very long cache name. That is known problem and I think they are trying to solve this in Garmin now. This problem can be avoided by using GSAK, where you can shorten cache names before copying gpx- file to Garmin. Aki

I have used www.mygeocachingprofile.com website where it generates EarthCache pins and other different geocaching badges for various achievements from myfinds gpx file. EarthCache pin will show up after you have added amount of EarthCache hides in to system. So to use this you need to have geocaching.com premium membership to get myfinds gpx. file and have account in mygeocachingprofile web page.

The deer ked or deer fly (Lipoptena cervi) should be mentioned here. I think this is even more annoying creature in this time of year. Even OFF can't do much about these bugs. These could bite but the main annoyance in is the inconvenience and unpleasantness of removing keds from hair and clothes. You might want to visit some smaller town around Helsinki with reasonable amount of geocaches in walkable distances. I would then suggest to visit city of Porvoo. About 50 km north east from Helsinki. Busses leave something like every 30 minutes from Helsinki and it takes about hour to get there.

Mine works this way that I copy pocket query gpx files in garmin/gpx folder. This works otherwise very nicely but if there is some caches with very long cache names among caches in gpx file, these would then cause nuvi 500 to shut down. if one of them is chosen as destination. Anyone else experiencd this "feature"?

Haven't seen this one before. Today I went to see GC.com and noticed that in the GC.com front page and My profile page some data has been lost. Like finds and Hides, member since and profile picture. Only nickname is there. My public profile still has all the data. I have IE 7 over xp. "Hello small oaks! I just use opera mini browser. It has no problems with geocaching.com. You can even choose between two different layouts; mobile phone and original.

Thank you for silver pin. We got it just last week. Gold pin might be hard for us. We had to visit another country. I suppose it is not the same as visiting another state countries that has them. Finland (neighbour of Norway and Sweden) had once (about two days) five states but they were took away because of complaints from the voiciest ones. Main reason for them was that Finland is so small country and has only about 10000 geocaches. So dividing it to smaller states is unnecessary. I suppose that many would have been very satisfied with the states if they would have stayed. Even the ones who complaint.. I wasn't happy about the states either then as I tought there were too few of them, but now with earthcaching I wouldn't mind if these five states still exists, and I hope they will come back someday. Funny thing is that one of our states Aland exists in this GC.com as own country? There is only about ten geocaches. Someone should make a new Earthcache there.

This one looks intresting. As we have one puzzle with same theme. Tomb cacher II. Plot in ours is a bit different I guess. This is fully solvable at home even its Wherigo. So give it a try. If you have solved it you can log it in Wherigo page, if not wish to travel to Finland.

It would really help if you would explain what problems you are running into. See this thread from Raine about reporting problems. I just created a new route and successfully generated a PQ from it. I did the same thing with an old saved route. (I was also able to get more than 100 caches with each.) Without more information, all I can say is it seems to be working correctly for me. I filled out the box that came up when I tried (unsuccessfully) to create the PQ. I selected a route from my list of saved routes (http://www.geocaching.com/my/userroutes.aspx) by clicking on the "Create Pocket Query" link. I get the infamous "An Error Has Occurred" dialog; clicking "retry your previous request" doesn't help. So then I click on the route name, and try "Create Pocket Query" from the "Create / Edit" page; same thing. When I upload a new route I've created in Garmin MapSource (which has always worked before) and try to "Create Pocket Query" from either the "Create / Edit" page or the list of all of my routes, I get the same error. Finally, when I create a new route (using thenew tool) and try to "Create Pocket Query" from either the "Create / Edit" page or the list of all of my routes, I get the same error. In other words - CAaR is completely broken for me. I can't generate PQs from existing routes or for new ones. I must be using it wrong. I have similar experience with this new CAar feature. Only thing I get is Error has Occured....

I think this statistics and Achievement award badges are just one part of the game that I enjoy when I'm not outside looking for geocaches. But, it doesn't automatically upload it your GC.com profile like the GSAK macros can. And, some of it's parts look strangely like what the GSAK macro produces. Well, not for the first time. But when you update new gpx file in system changes will update on your profile automatically ... you might need only a few ctrl+f5... I guess every statistics system has samekind of diagrams and lists that people want. I wonder how can you make them very different to each other anyways. Is there a copyright to certain stat type... I use both GSAK and My geocaching profile and I get something from both. I really like GSAK also to get very exact stats of my finds and also stats of my owned caches and and just noticed that I can do much more with it and do these stats more automated that I nowadays do it. My geocaching profile system has some parts that I like for example you can get achievement badges of different kind. ie. Earthcache masters program, how many caches you have found, how many different (D/T)- types of caches you have found, How many states or countries you have visited.

There is also My geocaching profile website that generates statistics of your myfinds.gpx. It is like that itsnotallabout... site.

I have noticed this. as well. It also appears to be random and not repeatable. I was going to use an example, but five minutes later, everything had changed. I had followed a link on one of my bookmark lists to a cache page and then noticed that my list was not on the page. Instead, a different list was. When I followed the link to that list, I found, as expected, that the cache was not on that list. The next time I checked that cache page, a different list was linked, and later, mine was back. Same thing here.

Enemmän vaan olisi ollut maakunta hausta hyötyä. Lääni on tietty yksi tapa saada Turku ja Tampere samaan kategoriaaan. Mut samapa tuo enää.

I just tried "Find newest in Ontario" and it seemed to work ok. Hi I just noticed that there are now 5 provices of Finland that are really here called lääni . I guess they become obsolete something like 2010 so these are quite unnecessary to put here now. Lääni's are like something that is somewhere above. Instead we rather would use regions that are total of 20 Åland island included. These 20 regions are used also in GSAK macro to generate maakunta map of Finland. Is it possible to change to those regions somehow? Suomen maakunnat in finnish About Finlands Regions in english We have tought that GSAK macro for some time and now this province thing will mixed up everything. Look our wrintings about this subject here .. I think the work should be taken into consideration. This would really help Finnish people better to locate caches in their. Small oaks Mission Possible geocoin lähti liikkeelle 30.12.2007 ja suoritti ensimmäisen tehtävänsä eli pääsi vajaan vuoden matkustamisen ja 1347 km jälkeen 9.11.2008 Ouluun ja tuli kuvatuksi Rotuaarin pallon kanssa. Uusi tehtävä on asetettu, joten onnea matkaan.
