  1. thats what i'm saying, they aren't really comparable. the original poster noted they know it's not an apples to apples comparison as well. touchy much?
  2. is this really a fair comparison being that the pn40 is like twice the price of the vista hcx? i have the vista hcx which i got for 165 from target, isn't the pn40 at least 300?
  3. hi ya. i have a nuvi 200 from a couple years ago and i just bought a vista hcx. i get a popup on the nuvi saying i need to update the map. i was thinking of buying the micro sd citynav for my vista hcx anyway and was wondering if i could use that in the nuvi 200 to update it? with an sd adapter of course. thanks for any help.
  4. forgive me if this was already discussed, i looked a little. anyway, say for example i'm going to japan, how would i even find out if there are any geocaches around where i'm going? they don't really have zipcodes there for example. any help is appreciated, as always.
  5. i remember a few years ago there was a thread where we were trying to come up with a new name to replace muggle, it was pretty good. i wonder if it's still around in here somewhere.
  6. there was a thread a few years ago with everyone coming up with another name for muggle. that was a fun thread, i wonder of it's still around?
  7. maybe i didn't articulate it well, but my questions was: what exactly is the problem with 2.80/2.80? since you seem to be one of the most critical of it, i find it odd that you would tell me to leave it alone. so...what exactly, and yes i've read all the posts, is the problem with it? i want to check right away to see if i'm having the problem as well. i may think the unit is working fine but in fact be missing something at the same time. thanks.
  8. Thanks! I guess I figured it would be more intuitive from the find menu. You have saved me from ripping what is left of my hair out. this is one of those questions that i have seen asked many times and since everyone on here is so experienced i feel that maybe the explanation could go over a newer cacher's head, so as a semi-experienced cacher i would reply: go to the menu, click on mark, it will show you the position you are at right now but of course that is not what you want to mark, you want to mark a geocache, so on the first line that shows '001' or something click on that and enter the geocache name like gc***, then scroll down til you have highlighted the coordinates, click on that and it will allow you to manually input the coordinates for the geocache, or whatever, you are trying to find. if you want to go right then, scroll down and click goto, if you want to go later, click on ok. i hope this helps.

  10. okay....so i got a vista hcx and did all the stuff i'm 'supposed' to do like put the disc in, load the mapsource, the web updater, blah blah blah as soon as i received it. i now have 2.80/2.80 installed on the unit and don't even know what was on it when i got it because i was trying to do what i thought i should. now i have been reading this thread for 3 days trying to see if i should have done all the updates 'out of the box'. i'm not very experienced, i had an old blue legend before this, have 30 something finds, etc. if i am understanding, the main problem with 2.80 seems to be that it tells you you're still moving when you're not and the track log is off? i drove around all day yesterday and when i was stopped it showed i was stopped. to check the track log thing should i just go for a long walk and see if it takes me back home? i also noticed that when i have both the old legend blue and the new vista hcx sitting on the dash of my truck the vista has more satellites but the +/- is about the same, about 9 feet. granted the hcx when put on the front seat was more accurate. so, what should i do to make sure i shouldn't try to atttempt to go back to one of the earlier versions posted in this thread? as always i appreciate any help.
  11. should i have to adjust the backlight every time i turn on the unit? meaning should the screen be dark every time it's turned on? i adjusted the backlight timeout in the settings, but i still have to do the initial adjustment when i turn it on. thanks.
  12. thanks, i have one on the way and i was hoping you didn't say it was a pos.
  13. if a gpsr has no built in memory would i be able to take it geocaching right out of the box, or would i have to get a memory card in order to load a waypoint? i'm thinking about upgrading from my legend that had 8mb of memory stock to a vista with no built in memory. thanks for any help.
  14. what company on amazon did you use? i wanna get a vista hcx as well.
  15. say i get a legend hcx or vista hcx as an upgrade for my old legend, using it mostly for geocaching. how much time and money will it take to also use it for driving directions? we already have a nuvi in the family, but if those can do it, what the heck, i'll just keep it in my truck.
  16. hey folks, need to ugrade from my blue legend, so what would you say is the best garmin gpsr for under 200 bucks. thanks.
  17. Folks I am so sorry!! I was in the avatar test thread as requested and when I went to test it clicked new topic when my feeble mind told me that was what was needed to test. I know now it wasn't and don't know why I thought that. Again, I am so sorry!! Please forgive me????? NO!!! just kidding.
  18. so true. this forum is very welcoming and very helpful. i don't get to geocache as much as i'd like, but i visit this forum regularly.
