  1. I am looking for a bare bones laptop to run city select for my GPS V. I am a mac user and Virtual PC is not really an option for my older mac. I am looking for something that I could just run the Garmin software and a few other geocaching items on. I would also like to be able to connect it to my cable modem so I can download update easily. Any ideas please let me know.
  2. Enjoy your V! I love mine. Domokun RAWR!!!! b
  3. Hello all, I have a few questions for anyone who might know the answers. I have a GPS V with autorouting selected with the Fastest Route option selected as well. I have been having some problems with the length of time it takes for the unit to recalculate when I have gone "off route" (according to the uunit, but that is another story all together). Most of this occurs while driving on the highway for long(er) distances. During the week I drive from Massachussetts to Rhode Island for work (66 miles one way) and while on the highway if I go off route it can sometimes take 20 mins. or more for the unit to pick a new route. The same thing happened yesterday on the way to Portsmouth NH. All of the proper maps are loaded for the areas I am driving through as well. Tha other problem I am having is that the unit is sometimes giving me slower directions than it should. When driving to RI the obvious roue (and Fastest) would be all highway (I-93 S to I-95 S). Instead the unit tells me to get off I-93 s and take smaller highways or even sometimes back roads and residential streets that would add a half hour or more to my trip. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Thanks in advance, Bill P. [This message was edited by trinigen on April 20, 2003 at 05:59 AM.]
  4. My wife and I take Baylie (trusty Golden Retriever) every chance we get. She gets all crazy when she sees her red backpack come out. We have to spell out words like w-o-o-d-s and p-a-r-k or else she goes so crazy we can hardly get out of the house. Here are a few pics from some of her caches. Baylie at Lynn Woods Cache and Baylie at April Fools Cache Thanks for the great thread.
  5. What OS are you running? I have a V and I am running os 10.2 on a B&W G3. If you are running OS9 then the Keyspan adapter should work, if you are running OS 10 then you should look at getting the IOGear adapter from amazon (it's abot $27.99 with free shipping). The IOGear adapter is much less buggy that the Keyspan. If you want to drop me an e-mail with any specifics i can try and answer your questions. Hope this helps. b
  6. quote:Originally posted by trinigen:I have an Etrex Legend that I am selling. It is only 1 week old and hardly used (Just got a GPS V as a birthday gift). It would come with the PC data cable, and all documentation. Asking $150 (includes shipping).
  7. It would actually ask me if I was sure I wanted to upload the maps even though they were locked. I tried it once and it went through the whole upload process but really didn't upload anything. Actually my problem is half solved. I just got a GPS V as an early birthday gift from my parents so now I have a Legend I need to sell. If anyone is interested please e-mail me. Thanks, b

  9. Hello all, I just got my new legend last night and I have a copy of the Mapsource North American City Navigator CD with the Full unlock code. I had been using Mapsource without problems with my Etrex Yellow. I hooked up my legend last night and was able to download all of my waypoints and routes into it. Iwent to download my local map to the unit (Boston Map - 6.10 Megs) and the software stopped and told me I was about to load a locked map to my Legend and did I want to continue. I have been using the Mapsource software for a few months now and I entered the full unlock code when I installed it. I have had the full use of all of the usual map detail contained in the software while using it on the computer but why is it now telling me that I am using an locked map when it has been unlocked all along. I am using a mac running virtual PC but I know this should not be a problem since there arwe plenty of other people running macs without problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
  10. I have an Etrex yellow that I am thinking of selling. It is only 2 months old and hardly used (Broke my foot so I haven't been doing much GeoCaching). It would come with the PC data cable, all documentation and a fresh set of batteries. Asking $100 (includes shipping). b
  11. I have an Etrex yellow that I am possibly thinking of selling (Need to run it through my wife first since I want to replace it with a Legend). It is on 2 months old and hardly used (Broke my foot so I haven't been doing much GeoCaching). It would come with the data cable, all documentation and a fresh set of batteries. Asking $100 (includes shipping). The real question I have though is how people set up payment? Is it all on trust or do people wait until the have the money in hand / check cashed before they mail out the unit to the buyer? Thanks in advance [This message was edited by trinigen on November 19, 2002 at 01:22 PM.]
  12. Two weasels are sitting on a bar stool. One starts to insult the other one. He screams, "I slept with your mother!" The bar gets quiet as everyone listens to see what the other weasel will do. The first again yells, "I SLEPT WITH YOUR MOTHER!" The other says, "Go home dad you're drunk." -Thank you folks, you've been great. I'll be here all week! b

  16. hello all, A few months ago I remember reading that some people were working on some OS X compatable software to use with the Garmin GPSr units. I am wondering how work is going since we haven't heard anything in a while? Using Virtual PC is OK but not like having something that will run natively on the Mac OS. Let me know what's up and I am sure there are plenty of other people who are interested here too. Thanks, b
