  1. Nice to meet you Bro Zack! FWIW, I was the Mason that was asked about my ring. I thought it was kinda cool that someone that had seen the movie recognized the S&C on my ring. I can't wait to see the film!
  2. Congrats Yin Yang! May you have many, many more 100s in the future
  3. Yeah, it kinda freaked me out when I was asked. It was at the local mall and it was by a cashier who had apparently seen the movie the prior evening. I look forward to seeing the film.
  4. I'm trying hard to restrain and remain on topic, but if you aren't going to let me respond to the insult he directed right at me, will you please edit it from his last post. Here is what I am speaking of: I posted what I did based on the fact that I am a factory trained and certified technician for the system that was being questioned. I even posted a picture of some of my handiwork. It's doesn't matter if it's a side-job or not, as I was qualified to respond. It was a valid response to questions that were raised about the TracerNet system. I am also. It's amazing how those satellites have made geocaching possible among with other things on a global basis. Cheers and happy geocaching!
  5. There is nothing keeping it from going backwards... but trust me, as quick as the kids drop in the 'ammo' they are just as quickly shooting 'em Even if a marshmallow happens to fall back, you can quickly disassemble the weapon to correct the malfunction
  6. Nope As a Magellan user, I have just learned to walk a bit slower as I approach the cache to avoid over-shooting the cache
  7. Here's a pic of a TracerNet display in action. I had to work on this vehicle and replace a GPS antenna. I take pictures of my work that I submit to my client as proof that the system is operational. Since I am TracerNet certified, I feel that I can freely talk about this system with a high degree of confidence. Happy geocaching!
  8. Maybe where you live but not here As far as TracerNet, we don't use it for our patrol cars but I own and run a consulting company that installs and maintains a fleet of TracerNet equipped vehicles and you'll just have to trust me that it does take the data (coordinates) that the system receives from GPS satellites then transmits this data over a Motorola iDEN network to Trimble (in Virginia) then is passed to my client, located in the southeast. Let's not feed this silly troll any longer. Heck, the next thing he'll tell me is that the LoJack unit that is located in my patrol car (parked in the driveway) uses psychic powers to locate stolen vehicles FWIW, I'm glad my hard earned tax dollars go to pay for the multi-billion dollar satellites in the sky. I am also thankful that they (the government) allows me to use them to enjoy quality time outdoors with my children. Happy geocaching!
  9. Who said that iDEN had anything to do with GPS? I simply stated that our GPS data was transmitted over an iDEN network. Should I continue to feed the troll? Happy geocaching!
  10. Dude.... where do you think the GPS data that is transmitted over our Iden system comes from? I never said we transmitted data over the GPS satellites! I simply said we make use of it in a non-military manner... like for saving lives and protecting property and getting things to market in a timely manner. Geesh....
  11. Dang, I was so busy dismissing their assertion that police cars don't use GPS that I missed the part about unemployment.
  12. Both of my children have gotten guns from Joel. Trust me, they often form their own two-person militia and ambush me!
  13. Oh yeah, don't forget all the GPS equipped ambulances that are in use. I certainly hope that if I, or a family member, ever needs the service of an ambulance that the ambulance company is able to dispatch the closest unit which can be determined via the location derived from the GPS system.
  14. So you think we should just let the constellation die a slow painful death? Where do you propose we spend our tax dollars? Uh... I've got news for you, the department where I serve uses GPS. The data from the GPS is sent via an IDEN 800MHz network. In fact there are several local departments that are using GPS on both police and fire vehicles. My brother works for the second largest concrete company in the world. Guess how they track concrete trucks? GPS i.e. TracerNet by Trimble. The GPS system protects us from a military view and helps us from a civilian view. Happy geocaching!
  15. Let me guess.... it's all President Bush's fault, right? I reckon when President Clinton turned-off SA you thought that was a bad thing, right? If Senator Kerry had won the Presidential election, would he have terminated the launch of new GPS satellites to replace older ones that were failing or reaching the end of their useful life? I don't care what your politics are. The GPS system is used not only by the military but by civilians. The food that is in your market was tracked by GPS while enroute to the store. When you call the police, many of our cars are dispatched based on the closest unit thanks to GPS... I could go on and on.... but I won't. I think most folks will understand what I'm trying to say. I will, however, say that if you think the launch of a new GPS satellite was a Republican conspiracy, you are totally mistaken. Happy geocaching!
  16. The new bird was built here in Alabama and an Alabama Geocachers Assn member helped build it
  17. Okey dokey, I just found it odd that this particular cache told people they could take the minerals and that it wasn't located in a NGS area. As we all know we should always strive to have a traditional over a virtual Be cool!
  18. But couldn't a traditional have been placed in this location? Looking at the small map on the page it doesn't show to be in a 'park' but I could be wrong. I can't believe something called an 'Earthcache' would encourage someone to pillage the natural materials located there. The NGS allows this?!?!
