  1. Here's the real sad part.... all of here on the forums are lousy bums for sitting on this stupid computer when we should be out there in the woods. What the ^%# is wrong with you people, (including myself) ps love you all []
  2. NO NO NO, we were just trying to lighten up the room , that's all. []
  3. This is getting out of control, please people stop with the juvenile behavior. I cannot believe that a simple topic would get out of hand so quickly. BTW, I think more people (including kids) have died choking on McToys than from out of control fires started with matches from a cache OR a Bible, (including hellfire and brimstone).
  4. My Dad has a cool use for his GPS (that I got for him). He flies an ultralight (Powered Parachute) to be exact. He made himself a mount for the Meridian Platniun GPS and basically uses it as his instrament panel while flying. When he first started flying before the GPS, he had a hard time finding his farm, cause SW Missouri all looks the same I guess. Now he just GOTO's his house and heads right for it...
  5. You guys are killing me with your math issues ROTFLOL
  6. Don't bother calling the cops unless there perp is still in the area, usually the Fire Department will responed to hypo needles in public areas. Also, there are several containers one could "make" and/or carry with you when caching in parks in case one ran into hypos. Just take the sharps to a local EMS/Fire/ Hosp/clinic, etc. for disposal. It's really not that big a deal people.
  7. I can't remember the last time I ran roughshod, but I bet it was fun!
  8. I just hope they bring up ETHICS in caching, as long as that is covered well and taken seriously I'm all for it.
  9. "As long as I win it, I don't mind all the confusion".
  10. Try this emal to ask about the winner: susan.lietz at rodale.com I haven't gotten a response yet, so I don't know the answer either.
  11. I wish everybody would just shut the $%^& UP and remember how they felt when they first started caching.
  12. The two best lights possible are the following : Headlamp/ Petzl Zipka $35.00. Recharchable flashlight- Streamlight Scion. $99.00. The Scion is new, is extremely small, and has a life of about 60-70 minutes per charge. Lithium Ion batteries charge a minimun of 300 times. VERY SMALL, Lightweight, and BRIGHT
  13. I have just ordered one... I will let you know when I get it, I surely hope this works, (it looks great)! Thanks a bunch. I don't think my GPSr can handle too many more falls onto rocks, etc.. I got one of these and they work great, thanks a bunch...
  14. There are many very lonely caches here in New Mexico..... email if interested in beta.
  15. I have just ordered one... I will let you know when I get it, I surely hope this works, (it looks great)! Thanks a bunch. I don't think my GPSr can handle too many more falls onto rocks, etc..
  16. I have a Magellon Meridian Platnium and broke off the little eyehook on the back where I used to clip my neckstrap onto it. Has anyone come up with a harness system that works good for this model..
  17. That is how the rich get richer.. Let me give you an example.. as a Fireman every spring we take part in the Fill the Boot campaign, you know, for muscular dystriphy, (Jerry Lewis , etc..) anyhow, standing on the corner with a fireboot yelling, "Help Jerrys Kids, " Fight childhoood ilness," etc, etc, you learn a lot about people. The person driving the brand new $50,000 SUV will keep the windows rolled up and look straight foward, ignoring you, while the guy driving the 1984 Vega will take his last 5 bucks and put it in the boot....
  18. I for one have to give the Leatherman type tool it's props. These tools can fix just about anything, get you out of just about any kind of jam you can think of. I even got my wife a mini one and she loves it. If you don't have one, and don't understand what they could possibly be used for, than perhaps you have to question your reason for being more than 20 feet away from your house at any time. You obviously have never been put (or put yourself) into a tight spot in your entire life. I am NOT trying to sound mean here, I just HAVE to be an advocate for these items. I have carried one since around 1990, and could not imagine being without it. Just one small example I will give you is a few years ago I was on a forest fire and the ditchbank road I was on collapsed behind our brush truck. the fire was coming and we HAD to move. I used my Leatherman to cut two entire sections of fence, and later went back to mend it as well... I can justify carrying one about a million times over. They can fix your car, your tools, boat, claymore, generator, your well, ANYTHING! Just get one OK! oh ya, as far as caching. well, how about removing stuck logs/pencils, fixing smashed ammo box lids, removing spinters, tightning the small retaining ring on the back of the Meridian GPS, opening a can of tuna, popping the top of an ice cold beer after a long hike, etc, etc....
  19. I agree with my Marine friend, years of the (Forest Service and US Army) ; I have come to the conclusion that MRE's are NOT FOOD! Go ahead and place them in! Seriously, I have found a couple of bottles and even cans of drinking water, I appriciated those at the time, (it gets hot here in the desert you know)
  20. I have had this crazy idea for a while, and haven't told anyone about it yet, but what the heck, here goes.. I have been slowly gathering high dollar items, (mainly from REI and similar stores). You know, one item a month or so, that way it doesn't really affect my modest paycheck. Anyhow, once my .50 caliber ammo can is full, (possibly worth a couple hundred dollars). I plan on placing it in a really hard to get to place. A place that would only allow Premium, dedicated, hard core cachers to find. One that would be VERY unlikely to be plundered. My only problem is this, I really want to make it so people know of the value of these items, and I would really want the "equal trading" policy to really actually happen. I TRY to have faith in human nature, even though well over a decade of public safety work sometimes challenges that theory.... Do you folks think this is a good way to "give back" to the Geocaching world... after all, I LOVE doing it and will most likely be doing it for a LONG long time to come. Geocaching has given my daughter and I so much quality time together, in a way Geocaching may have been a lifesaver for me. Or am I just wasting my effort and money?
  21. I think it is totally appropriate to keep any TB for several weeks IF you are going to drop him in an out of the way/ awsome cache. BTW, I just got back from Moab and there ae MANY, MANY great caches in that area..
  22. You actually give me a great idea.. lets see who is REALLY dedicated to caching... I want to see real, permanant Geocaching tatoo's. If I can convince my wife, I'm gonna get one.. (Not on my forehead though)
  23. I'm not sure if there is any scientific corelation, but every time one of my bugs or a bug I'm watching goes missing, it's always from a cacher with very few finds, usually less than 10... to bad there is nothing we can do about it. (Exept perhaps do a TB that's mission is to STAY in premium caches.) hey , I think I just gave myself an idea..
  24. You can get free or extremly cheap internet access at most public libraries, even in small towns, don't keep us waiting to see your logs!!!!
