  1. Finally.. No more reason to have a WINCRAP machine at my house. Everyone knew it was inevitable. Garmin kept saying NEVER....NEVER... NEVER... They finally smartened up, and listened. O well I guess 'never' was actually Jan.10. Mac users win... AGAIN. YAY TEAM.
  2. join the club... You are not alone here. It is something Mac users have to live with. Garmin's insistance NOT to provide OS X support. Sux to be us. DAMMIT, GARMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. there is NEVER enough memory... I am waiting for the day where I see a GPS/harddrive device...a la iPod...thus 40 gigs may be enough... perhaps not... lates..
  4. as mentioned in some other threads here, the first company to openly support OSX will gain a huge advantage in the GPS arena... VPC sux plain and simple, and whoever openly embraces either Jaguar or Panther will get my support and future purchases... I know of many Mac geocachers who are anxiously awaiting this development, and the fact that OSX is still being neglected is a stupid business move, by both of these manufacturers...
  5. i own a Trimble GeoXT (for pleasure/business, it is better than the Trimble GeoXM because of its enhanced GIS capability) and a Garmin Legend (mostly for pleasure)... (I know, I know, ...what a difference)... http://www.trimble.com/geoexplorerce.html lates... [This message was edited by shabbasuraj on June 18, 2003 at 08:42 PM.]
  6. I have got 1 meter accuracy, many times in Ontario... lates...
  7. IPXWHATEVERNUMBERSPECIFICATIONWATERPROOFISAJOKE regarding the H2O worthyness of Garmin units is something to worry about... I do not care about the specifications, to whatever standard, yada yada yada, if they say the thing is water proof to 1 meter for 30 minutes or whatever, it should mean the whole unit... and it does not mean that everything is waterproof except for the battery compartment ...?...(i.e., sometimes the unit is waterproof, depending on what angle the unit is being held under water, or what hemisphere you are on...etc,....) at the very least if they say the unit floats, it should float, not depending on what type of water fresh or salt, or whatever.... GARMIN make it happen, put foam in the unit to make it float, i dunno,,, do whatever it takes... or perhaps just say it won'f float, customers will appreciate the honesty... or how about this one..... make the unit really waterproof like you say it is, then make it so,,, don't make it waterproof and say the battery compartment may get wet and require drying... if a $2.99 watch with the purchase of any sandwich you get at McDonalds or BurgerKing can be waterproof then a x-hundred dollar gps unit can also be waterproof.... what a joke,,, take some of the profits from your 'reasonably' priced software and buy a few o-rings and screws or whatever closure mechanism/system you wish to employ (as long as it seals tight) and make sure your units are really waterproof... by the way, I have never deep-sixed my legend, never intend to, and hope it never makes it way into the drink regardless... basically I want a more rugged and durable casing... DURABILITY IS KEY......!!!!!! that is it for now.... lates... [This message was edited by shabbasuraj on May 01, 2003 at 06:32 AM.]
  8. mount your notebook in your vehicle using a ram mount... they are solid... or put a PC in your ride, i just helped install one of these into my buddies ride... nice... expensive, but you get what you pay for... you can do the same probably for less... just gotta get one of those super small mother boards, and fit the entire pc maybe under a seat.... there are a few other companies that make auto pc's, but I can't remember the names right now... lates... http://www.xenarc.com/index.html
  9. welcome to the 'club'.. all you have to do now is buy an antenna and wire it through your sleeve and up towards your foam backed baseball hat (Wal-Mart on sale $2.99) that reads 'i love mom', and duct tape the end to the top.... next carry it everywhere you go,, and just ramdomly start repeating coordinates.. even indoors... now you are GEOCACHING... hahhahaa lates....
  10. ye Olathe... GARMIN HQ... lates...
  11. spongerob... your #5 reason of your first post is so true... why mapsource does not fix this is a friggin Caramilk secret... lates...
  12. Just wanted to point out that I could not find any caches placed on any of the York University's campuses. Both the Glendon and the Keele campuses offer many great forested and developed areas for caches. Kinda odd you would think as having the 3rd highest undergrad pop. in Canada (approx. 40 000 plus), at least one person would place a cache here or be an active geocache creator. I may have to be the first. Probably not as all my time is spent doing homework. Perhaps I am the only geocacher at York? lates... 13. it takes time to calculate all of the almanac data after the upgrade... make sure the unit is stationary and has 'open sky' as this may make things faster... this is normal, garmin says it may take upwards of 15 minutes... lates...
  14. I have never has a problem with my unit yet, (knock on wood) I am worried about the clickstick though as many people have had problems it... however, the recent forum(s) regarding the H2O worthyness of Garmin units is something to worry about (i guess)... I do not care about the specifications, to whatever standard, yada yada yada, if they say the thing is water proof to 1 meter for 30 minutes or whatever, it should mean the whole unit, not everything except for the battery compartment (sometimes, depending on what angle the unit is being held under water, or what hemisphere you are on) at the very least if they say the unit floats, it should float, not depending on what type of water fresh or salt, or whatever.... 17. ye.... just dont forget to judiciously delete the program in the presense of at least two witnesses... hahhaaa.... lates...
  18. maybe rad dad should have 'previewed' the software he bought, first by downloading it through a peer-to-peer network first from www.limewire.com then decide if he wanted to buy it or not... if he then liked it he could have honestly deleted all traces of the program from his hard drive and then bought the program legitimately from a retailer.... or perhaps not... hahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........ lates...
  19. no problems here,,,, where are you located...? keep us updated... lates....
  20. This one is nice (has GIS capability) but it needs some improvements in the accounting department. (price) hahahhaaa.... http://www.trimble.com/geoxt.html here is a related discussion... http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=5740990093&m=4760914245 laes...
