  1. For those who didn't get in on the Pursuit of Caching Pie coins last year, I have a limited supply left and I'm clearing them out for 50% off! The coins are now $6ea plus S&H. Photos below - email me through my profile if you're interested!
  2. Thanks for the suggestion Potato Finder, I may have to look into that. It's too bad I have to use a third party application to do something that simply requires a slightly more sophisticated search solution... not to mention waiting 3 days to get the data! I don't think I've seen any significant enhancements to the search capabilities on geocaching.com since I became a member in '06. Given that I'm a Mac user, most of the third party applications out there require that I use a PC, which is another reason I'd love to see these features available on geocaching.com. Any other thoughts about how to get this information without utilizing a third party application?
  3. Over the last few years I've participated in a number of caching related "challenges", many of which require cachers to find caches starting with a certain letter or containing a certain word. I've always found this difficult as it seems to require the tedious process of scanning titles manually. For example, if wanted to find all of the caches in the state of Georgia that started with the letter "Z", I have no idea how to do that. I've tried going to "Hide & Seek a Cache" and searching on keyword "z", but I only get results of titles that are exactly "z" and only "z" - I don't get all caches that start with or contain "z". As a work around, I set up a PQ, mapped it on Google and then copied the text list of caches into Excel so that I could sort the names alphabetically. This worked well; however, I'm limited to only 500 caches so getting a listing of all caches in the state that meet my requirement becomes a tedious exercise. Has anyone out there worked out a good way to handle searching for specifics like this? I routinely want to do any one of the following and would love some input... 1. Search for a cache containing a specific word (e.g. the word green) within a certain state 2. Search for a cache that starts with a specific letter The Hide & Seek a cache form doesn't seem to allow for searching multiple criteria (e.g. all caches with keyword Green in the state of Georgia), nor does the PQ form allow for keywords as a criteria for inclusion. What to do???
  4. For anyone having trouble with the time issue - you can see what time your last post was made by looking in the upper left corner of the post you made. Then, if you scroll way down to the bottom of the page - at the very bottom right corner in the blue strip is the current forum time. Just make sure there is a 12-hour difference between your last post time and the time at the bottom right and you're good to go!
  5. Oh maaaaannn - my next guess was going to be Ain't No Sunshine - I guess I'll try Holidays in the sun, Sex Pistols?
  6. Wow - thanks to everyone for participating. I've been enjoying watching the posts all weekend and I'm pleased to announce that post numbers 13 and 26 are the two winners! CONGRATS to Butterfly_lady and lorca.nl for the win! Please send me an email with your mailing address and your choice of color (blue, brown, pink, yellow, orange or green) and I'll get the coins out to you. Even though the contest is over, I would love to hear the background behind other names if anyone would like to post here! Thanks for playing.
  7. To celebrate the arrival of my new Pursuit of Caching Pie coins (yes, they are finally here), I thought I'd sponsor a cointest and give two (2) lucky winners a free Pursuit of Caching Pie coin! Since the coins are a tribute to the famous Trivial Pursuit game, I'd like to know a little bit of trivia about you folks. All you have to do is post a response explaining the origin of your geocaching handle/name! You have until 9pm EST Sunday to make your post (just one explanation per nickname please) and I'll use a random number selector to select two posts to win coins. Winners get to chose which color coin they want (there are six regular edition coins to choose from: blue, brown, green, pink, yellow and orange). I'll start: Applewomyn is a handle I've used online since the mid/late 90s. I was an early adopter of internet gaming and at the time it seems like there were two general truths... 1. Most of the folks doing internet gaming were men 2. Almost everyone out there was using a Windows PC I was a big Macintosh/Apple user so to make a point, I created a handle that would let folks know I was neither a male nor a PC user! The name stuck and I've used it ever since. When I started geocaching I used the name and have often used apples on my personal geocoins, etc. even though the name was actually in reference to Apple Computers. If you haven't ordered one of the new Pie coins and aren't feeling lucky in the cointest, I have some left and you can order through my website. Just scroll down to the Pie coins and there is an order link that will take you to PayPal. Good luck with the cointest!!!
  8. Geoswag also has the final coin in the series still available on their site. Good luck!
  9. I think the only option would be to do them as a photo print on the coin - otherwise, doing them with enamel requires that each color be contained by an outlines (which holds the enamel) - this might mess up the illusion. Certainly on the ones where a gradient of color is used... I think those would *have* to be done as photo images. Cool idea to try!
  10. Just a quick update to let everyone know that samples of the Pursuit of Caching Pie coin arrived today. The look GREAT and their HUGE! I forgot just how big a 2" coin looks! You can see photos below. Please note the following details about the final coins: 1. The sample shown in the photos features a blue "base" for the pieces. Just like the game pieces, I plan to have the front of the base done in all of the different "pie" colors. Colors will be distributed at random. So for the regular edition coins there will be 225 complete nickel sets with the following number of colored bases: - 38 Blue - 38 Green - 38 Yellow - 37 Pink - 37 Brown - 37 Orange This means that each color will be very limited in quantity and therefore very collectible for you! For those of you who reserve multiple coins, I will do my best to ensure that you only receive one of any given color. 2. For the 25 limited edition coins - I've decided to do the whole base as well as the pieces in bronze. The LEs bases will be bronze throughout with no colored enamel fill on the front of the base - so there will be bronze between the pie pieces instead of coloring. These should look *really* nice! Again, LEs will be distributed randomly as every 10th coin mailed. I should have the final coins in about 2 weeks and will begin invoicing those holding reservations on the day they arrive. For those of you who've been holding out for the coin arrival date, get your reservations in now for one of these great coins! The price is $12+S&H. PHOTOS
  11. I'm confused (nothing new but I thought I'd just ask anyway...LoL). I just got an email about this coin that says you are taking reservations. But here it says you decided not to move forward with production. What am I missing? Me also???? After sending out an email to the group who made reservations about the pricing issue and receiving a unanimously positive response, I've decided to move forward with the project. Coins will be offered at $12 each and I have retained all reservations made to date. Going forward, I will update those who have made reservations on status via personal email.
  12. All - thank you for your interest in the Pursuit of Caching Pie coin. Unfortunately, I just learned from the mint that they mis-estimated the job. I priced these coins based on what the mint was going to charge me and now that they are changing their estimate, I am unable to offer these coins at the price I listed. Further, I'm pretty frustrated with the mint and have decided not to move forward with production of the coin at this time. Should I carry the project forward in the future, I will honor the pre-reservations I received. My apologies for an inconvenience.
  13. Yep - that's why I'm shipping them as complete sets!
  14. Yes, that might be a strategy! I've already had the first LE coin reserved and we're on our way to the second... who will it be?! I won't announce the LE recipients as it will entirely depend on whether those who have reserved actually end up buying a coin. Literally, every 10th coin I put in an envelope for mailing will be an LE!
  15. Yep - too many variables to worry about so I've updated the initial post. I've decided to sell the coins in full sets and to add some fun for me, I'll send every 10th coin out as an LE. See original post for details and thanks for the input!
  16. Wow - ok, this is enough to confuse even me, so let me clarify. I thought folks would actually enjoy trading these, not for the trading itself, but because complete sets would then be far more valuable down the road. So when I originally conceived this idea, I thought of three ways it might work: 1. People could order a complete set (base + all 6 color pieces) and there would be no LE sets. 2. People could order a base and would get a random selection of six colors (e.g. 2 green, 1 yellow, 1 pink, 2 blue) and would have to trade to complete the set. 3. People could order a base and it would come with six of all the same color requiring each person to trade with 5 other people to get a full set With options 2 and 3 in play, I thought it would be fun to randomly through in bronze pieces so that someone who received a random bronze piece could trade it or keep and try to collect all of the pieces needed for a full LE set. What I failed to calculate in scenario 3 is that by sending all six of all the same color, it would throw off the number of piece pieces needed to make the sets. Since these coins are still in the "samples" stage, I'll let you all decide what you prefer! I will do one of the three options above based on popular opinion. I'm going to edit the original post to request input. So, you decide - would you rather get a complete set and not trade or go with one of the other two options in which I'll offer and LE option???? Oh choices...

  18. Wow - I was wondering how long it would take someone to point that out! Yes, there will actually be 252 coins to allow for an even number of sets - I just rounded off to 250 in the listing.
  19. IMPORTANT UPDATE: Anyone who has already reserved a coin, I've got your reservation and will keep it in the order it was received. Given the confusion and feedback about the coin, I've decided to just sell the coins in full sets (base + all 6 colors). Every 10th coin reserved will be an LE (nickel base with bronze pieces) as I prefer to keep SOME surprise in all of this. So if the first person order 3 coins, the second person 3 coins and the third person 5 coins, the third person gets an LE and so on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED ORIGINAL POST... Just wanted to let everyone know that I have a new coin in production and I’m currently taking reservation (no payment required). Here are the coin details: Specifications: Base: 2” diameter, 3mm thick w/ soft enamel Pieces: 1mm think and will fit into base, held by magnets 250 coins and NO RE-MINT 225 sets will include nickel attachable pieces 25 sets will have a nickel base, but will feature bronze attachable pieces to make an LE set. Please list the subject as “Pursuit of Caching Pie” and include the following information: Paypal Email Address: Preferred Email Address for Communication: Name: Number of coins: If I get advanced reservations for more than 250 coins, I will invoice for orders in the order they were received. When they're gone, they're gone so get your reservation in early!
  20. Interesting - so far more back-end folks than front-end/creative types. It's cool so know what folks do to support their geocaching interests!
  21. Cool! There are LEAST 3 of us then! I posted because a) I wanted to network with others in the industry who share an interest in geocaching and I have some ideas for some web-related geocaching stuff. Anyone else out there?
  22. Hi all. I wasn't really sure where to post this topic - I'm sure the moderator will move it if need be. I'm curious to know if there are any other cachers out there who work in the Internet/Web consulting business in some capacity. I'm a Sr. PM with 10+ years in the industry and would like to "meet" others in the industry (location doesn't matter). Let me know if you're out there!!! PS: No, I'm not looking for a job! Applewomyn
  23. Wow - how cool is that! Ripley will be SO chuffed to find out his mug got his mom a prize!!! Well, not really, but that's what I'll tell him! Thanks so much for the contest PengoFamily!!!
