  1. I don't want my message stuck in the other thread where it can be ignored! I want it to keep popping up where it might have something done about it!

Oh, wait. Groundspeak doesn't care about what its paying members want!

Please return to the old subject line! This new one is too long and full of useless info!

    OLD:

[LOG] Owner: lonewolf_45 found Attilio Valati Nature Park (T...

    NEW:

Owner Notification: Attilio Valati Nature Park (GCXXXX) has a...

And it gets worse once you open the email!

I want the important info, not useless images and other unneeded crap!

WHY CHANGE SOMETHING THAT HAS WORKED FINE FOR 10+ YEARS!?!?

I DON'T SEE ANYTHING HELPFUL ADDED!!!!!!

This is yet ANOTHER example of Groundspeak making "Bigger Mistakes Tomorrow"

  2. The new format of Subject is of almost no use for me compared to the old scheme Who Did What, which contained tho most important infos in the initial three words. In the new format I have to read through almost whole line in order to get at least part of it. Please restore the old scheme (or at least make a customization through personal settings an option.

I run dozens of notifications for Publications and Archivations covering the whole territory of our country plus adjacent fractions of neighbouring countries. This means there are dozens of "initial coordinates" quite randomly scattered over the territory watched, thus making any information obout distance and direction from such a point meaningless for me. For me of much better value was the name of Rewiewer responsible for the action performed - one could easily at one glance guess the region/countra behind it. Also the replacement of "Published" with "New" seems very unhappy to me. As a keyword used in mail filtering Published is much more specific than New (there are many caches that simply have the adjective New in thire names and perhaps even some cachers).

In any case (as you offer no History tool (akin Wikipedia's History) which would allow users to search and see which caches existed by a particular date in the past - this is more and more important as our game gets older and older) I have to visually pass through many dozens of Archived notifications daily in order to sort them and put them into appropriate regional bookmark lists of archived caches (and similarly to pass through many dozens of Published notifications. What I expect in this process is an easy-to-read (for humans!) formatting of e-mail Subject. But the new format slips almost contrary to obscurity and does not allow for fast reading.

"Watchlist Notification:"? IMHO the word Notification is completely redundant here, Watchlist is enough, like prior to the change. The same applies to the "Owner Notification" redundancy. Owner was completely OK.

"XY cache has a new log"? What type of log?! That's important for me. Whether Found it, it is of less priority, not necessary to read through all of them at given moment but Write note may contain some important news and so on... I need to see the type of log in the Subject.

And I would also like to ask you for removal of graphics from notification and watchlist messages. It is only distracting. And the same for e-mails to another player. GS graphics is appropriate for the Weekly Newsletter but not for private messages between players.

I am very very very angry that you introduce novelties with deep impact on daily functioning and routines of your users without really consulting them and without offering them an opt-out from changes or making such canges matter of personal Settings. I ask all responsible people in the Hamster City, please stop introducing new and new crap nobody really needs nor wants and create some feature really usable for many - I think users would appreciate a Sandbox for testing of new listing without creation of actual GC-code in their personal menu.

I agree 100% !!! Groundspeak is always changing things that have no reason to be changed, but leave important things unfixed for months or years.

I have/had a full filtering system that forwarded DNF & NM/NA to my phone while leaving Found and Note on my desktop computer to read later. I could then easily read the subject line and pick what logs to read. now the subject line looks like this:

Owner Notification: Attilio Valati Nature Park (GCXXXX) has a...

The subject line doesn't contain the log type on the main email list, and my filters don't seem to be working.

  4. This proves you can add new icons without a problem. Why haven't Challenges gotten their own icon yet?

You may have missed the end of my Post #2:

I know that others would prefer to see new cache types for, as an example, challenge caches. Bear in mind that it's way easier for Groundspeak to roll out the Giga-Event type, because the change is applied on their end. Adding a cache type that's available for selection by any cache owner is a whole lot more programming work.

I thought most of the problems were making the GPX file and all the programs

understand another option, along with the stats page and PQ's, etc.

I don't see how making it part of the dropdown list any harder. There's 10(?) other ones that you can copy 99% of the code from!

  5. Hey ya'll! I could really use some help picking out a cache for my 100th find. I will be going to find it on Friday afternoon and this will also be my 3rd date with this girl I've really been digging (and yes our first date was a caching date!). So, yeah, I really want this one to be memorable!

So, some background to help you get an idea of what I like:

-We are both 24 years old

-I much prefer rural caches over urban

-Ammo cans and lock n' locks are my best friends

-I have not done any sea coast caches, which is wicked weird for a proud Rhode Islander

-A nice <5 mile hike is always nice

-A history lesson behind a cache is always welcome

So if anybody could help me pick a memorable cache within an hour and a half drive from Framingham Mass I would be eternally grateful to you! I would preferably go north toward New Hampshire or Vermont, but I would be happy with a MA or RI cache if it's really memorable.

    http://coord.info/GC4B19

Just under 5 mile hike with great views, was an ammo can 10+ years ago when I found it.

Also has several other caches around.

  6. With all the park restrictions and permissions - when is doublespeak :anitongue: going to require PnG hiders to show proof of permission?

    Here's and exmaple:

    http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC4THGC

Here's one where I was greeted by the cop and it is back in business

    http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2HBE4

So what? You want proof of permission for every cache? Every one of the 2 million+ geocaches? And who's going pay for someone to organize all of that? And who is the person that will organize it?

This could be done very simply if GS wanted to... all they have to do is add a place where you upload a copy of the written proof of permission during the cache submission process. No need to pay someone to organize all of that. And reviewers simply do not publish a cache without that uploaded copy of permission. It is that simple.

Then the number of new caches will drop by 95% and the FTF Hounds/Number Whores will have no reason to spend the $30/year. Groundspeak will never do something that will hurt their pocketbook!

  7. The popular Letterboxing website has a feature for paying members that allows them to add finds for boxes not listed on their site.

I think this would be a great feature to add for paying members!

It can be used for temporary event caches or the few not listed on this site. It can also be abused by the armchair finders and maybe will keep them from spamming "real" caches to add to their numbers.

This would be a win-win if "Unlisted Logs" were sold as an add-on -- Cachers can inflate the silly find count and Groundspeak gets extra funding from something that costs them nothing.

Maybe 10 or so with a membership, and additional 10-log packs for $1?

  8. I've seen, for micros, bison tubes and the soda preforms. Mostly in shallow water where you can reach them from a kayak. The larger swimming key/wallet holders do not stay dry.

The largest fully underwater cache I found was a 6" PVC pipe with a screw end fitting and a tool attached to open it. The tool also acted as a weight to hold it down. It was also tied to underwater roots or something with a rope (thin chain?) that reached the surface.

  9. Instead of worrying about making the cache watertight, why not sink coords on something waterproof like a metal tag, piece of plastic, etc. that point searchers to the cache on dry land. That way you get the underwater element without worrying about making a waterproof container.

Because after the FTF, all others will be given the final coords and then it won't be a water cache.

  10. The cache owner has this written on the cache page.

Each cacher is required to send the required information and not rely on another cacher to provide it. Failure to follow this procedure will result in a deleted log.

I know, as I own popular virtuals, that MANY people try to armchair log them. I can see how the owner wants every person to send the answers to limit the number of German "I was there with that guy" logs.

You can always email another finder and ask for the answers.

I found it back in 05, so I might have them around here somewhere...

  11. I'm trying to insert a photo into a puzzle cache. I'm doing the same way I've done it for over 10 years and it's not working. The The IMG tag is being stripped out!!

    1. I uploaded the photo to the cache page.

    2. Copied the URL of the image

    3. Added <IMG src="..."> to the long description.

    4. Saved, checked page, Image missing!

    5. Re-edited to find the IMG changed to <IMG />

EDIT: The same photo hosted on Facebook works fine!
