  1. We do it occasionally on a Yamaha TW200, in fact did one that way on Friday last. However we live in Winthrop and since our truck died we can't haul the bike far to cache anymore. We have had some great caching rides in Wenatchee and even took it to the San Juans once. K&A
  2. Yippee! I would love to go with you if you decide to make the trek. I've heard about those cinnamon rolls, too. The lady is Tootsie Clarke from Clarke Cabins and the Eatery in Marblemount. She has been doing this for years (more likely decades (or centuries?))
  3. We have just been looking over some of our oldest caches. Interesting to see the names of early finders (as in 2003) whose count is still under 50. Shows how many are able to avoid becoming terminally infected [] . Barnabirdy(s)
  4. Barnabirdy(s) For anyone going to Dayton to grab page 96 we recommend Lewis & Clark camp GCNBX8. Only a couple of miles from town and one of our most memorable finds.
  5. We have read the tales of woe concerning lost GPSr units. We have left ours behind at a cache now and then but always realized it (hard to find the next cache without it )and retrieved it. This weeekend we topped all others and left our LAPTOP behind Turns out we unloaded our Costco cart in the dark and left the laptop in the baby seat, racked up the cart and didn't miss the unit until we were in Chelan. By then Costco was closed, too late to go back. Now the good news, the next morning a phone call to Costco, quickly returned, told us they had it . Of course that meant another 200 mile round trip, obviously worth it, to spend a little more money but also clean up some P-38 hides we hadn't been able to do the day before. On the way home we even grabbed K-Did's "I don't think so" which was a lucky find. Home before dark is unusual this time of year, even with the added minutes The Nav assures us are occuring. K&A
  6. Why are we sliding off the bottom of the page? Has everyone jumped to Facebook? Barnabirdy(s)
  7. The Birdy(s) did Blythes Bounty in March 2004. It was great - too bad it isn't the HOTM this year in March. Tnere were great flocks of Sandhill Cranes landing in the fields around and flying very low overhead (once we got up to the cache). We think they had arrived early and were in a holding pattern for the Othello Sandhill Crane festival the next weekend. Barnabirdy(s)
  8. oops, dupe post. Still on the learning curve.
  9. Since the subject is sheep here is our contribution. Dimibirdy"s L'il RAMS don't just observe, they interact with the wildlife. In this case near Mount Rainier.
  10. The Birdy(s) walked to Eagle Scout Cache yesterday and realized that the Birdy knees are not ready for the March HOTM . They may be in for some maintenance this summer to be sure of the next ski season. Barnabirdy(s)
  11. Uwajimaya in Seattle or Bellevue has (had?) a good selection. Of course it's a little far for us to go to check up but we'll be over there around the 19th and never miss stocking up at Uwajimaya. Barnabirdy(s)
  12. Don't underestimate the need for light! We did the last one with our cross country ski headlamps. Disaster! Snow reflects the light but that tunnel sucks it up and doesn't return a bit. K&A
  13. Folks always jump in with questions off the topic, so here's one. At least it is about PQ's. Early on, in the learning curve, I managed to create a bunch of duplicate PQ's. I would like to clean house in the Your Routes department. Is there any way to delete unwanted PQ's? Most of them are not public. Barnabirdy(s)
  14. Now that the subject of bored equipment operators has come up: In Discovery Park Dimibirdy showed us a barnacle covered stump by the trail to her (former ) cache. How did it get there? We finally asked at the HQ and sure enough, some guys with too much time and horsepower on their hands moved it up from the beach just to make the rest of us wonder. Bet they did more damage to the terrain than we do. Barnabirdy(s)
  15. The Birdy(s), not dealing in HTML, can only offer Hydnsek congrats and a subdued "woot! We know that "objects in the rear view mirror may be closer than they appear" Barnabirdy(s)
  16. We live in the center of the state and always have to travel to cache, so we were fortunate enough to have 50 grids completed when the challenge started. This included the north tier and the dreaded grid 97. A trip to a Spokane Halloween event swept up the NE and SE corners, then the quest shut down for the winter. Completing the challenge in the spring took a dedicated trip along the Columbia Gorge and finally the Olympics after the Spring Fling. All done before the County Challenge appeared. We always took time for lots of caching rather than blasting through with one per grid. K&A
  17. The North Cascades Highway closed yesterday due to forecast heavy snow. This is the first time we have seen it close just due to a forecast []. It might reopen but in our experience this seldom has happened. Barnabirdy(s)
  18. We have been wondering when (even IF) this would happen. Last time we were in Darrington the sign pointed to Granite Falls without a word about it being closed. Of course it reopens shortly before the North Cascades Highway will close and cut us off again. Barnabirdy(s)
  19. Alas, this week's Methow Valley News says two to three weeks for the Hart's Pass road to DEW Line. More damage was found beyond the slide. Barnabirdy(s)
  20. We only stumbled across this thread on the 9th. We could have been tempted, alas, it's the old snooze lose thing. We do hope to escape the Winthrop hot spell by hitting Bellingham later this week. Barnabirdy(s)
  21. Birdy(s) check in with 2 hides and 13 finds.
  22. Gosh, had to search in the basement to find this thread... The Birdy(s) did Rooster Comb yesterday. Now is the time to wonder "Did they hide another up there"? K&A
  23. Oh Dear, it wasn't our intent to start a "Let's get even" puzzle event . Admit it now, it wasn't THAT difficult, the Nav solved it a lot more quickly that we were able to create it [] . Why not aim our puzzles so when they are solved the solver thinks "wow, I never knew that". K&A
  24. How far is it from Wenatchee? I may have to increase the mileage radius I have set for Notification of New caches. Nasty puzzle huh? Come on now, you're not referring to Camouflage are you? That should have been a piece of cake to solve for a former engineer. Streets and trips says 19 miles from chez Navigatorz.
  25. Boy, we had to dig into the basement to resurect this thread Koko and I hunted Wenatchee yesterday trying to find a place for a new hide. We eventually gave up and moved it closer to home (but still a lot closer to you). Sorry to say it may be in the nasty puzzle catagory but we have recently been on the receiving end of some of these
