  1. That's funny, I use the Sanyo hybrids in my hand held and a couple of digital cameras and they last as long as any other rechargeables I have used, including the standard rechargeables that are rated at a higher mAh. In fact they last longer then some 2500 mAh batteries in the one digital. I have been using Powerex 2700's also. I get them at http://www.thomasdistributing.com/. I did a lot of research a couple years ago when I got a new digital camera. They were rated really well by customers for digital cameras. There is also a really good Maha charger that comes with car and ac adapter and is good for 110 and 220V. The prices are reasonable too. So I use them for everything. Then a year ago I got a 60Scx and it worked forever on that. I do have some medion hybrid maha batteries that I thought would be good for a camera and gps. The good news is that they do hold their charge for a long time when NOT used. But now that I have a Colorado. It drains them noticeably faster than the normal NiMh batteries. So I would go with the max maH batteries that you can get and I think the Powerex's are good.
  2. Wow... I never thought of that. Thanks. I am not sure if I can still do that but I will try. Of course its a little like closing the barn door after all of the cows are gone...
  3. That is correct about the Version numbers and the ability to have 2 units on each map set. BTW, this ebay sale ends this Saturday...
  4. Thanks. That's exactly what I was going to do tomorrow. I was having the same problem. I called Garmin and they had me do a soft reset. Hold both soft keys and power up. You lose any profile stuff but maps and geocaches are ok. Well the problem was that my problem was intermittent. BUT since I did the reset..... no problems with intermittent crashing??
  5. You might have seen this already you change change the background. The selection that they give you are mostly dark colored patterns BUT you can load some blank colors. I used adobe photoshop to create a white and grey jpg. You drop it into the profiles areas with the other jpgs. The white helped alot but I was afraid it would draw too much power so I went to a grey. I think it did improve the visibility. But it would even better if you could also change the Font color.
  6. When I was at REI getting my Colorado 300 the sales guy showed me the 3D mode on the 400T. I did not ask but I assumed that my 300 would have that. It does not. I checked online and it says you have to have a map with the extensive DEM (digital elevation model). Well the base map of the 300 comes with a DEM of some sort... at least it is in the title if the base map. I am guessing that base DEM does not have enough data. I loaded some old topo maps that I had.... It did not work So... there is topo 2008.... will it give my 3D. Or am I out of luck with a 300. I probably would not use it much..... but it was neat to play with it in the store.
  7. I just got the Colorado 300. Now I have to sell everything else to afford that. I have put my 60CSx up for sale. This is my back up system. It is an older Garmin Etrex and a Palm Z22. It includes the bike mount for the Etrex, power supply for the Z-22, and a keyspan cable that allows for uploading caches to the Etrex via a USB port. I have it listed on ebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=250221654845
  8. I just got the Colorado so I am selling my 60CSx. I am not sure if this is ok with the rules but .... I have this listed on EBAY here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=250221448803 It has a 1GB microsd card that I can load with any US or Europe CN maps. I have to keep the disks for the Colorado but I have the unlock codes for these maps and this unit. I just found some more items that go with this - AC power adapter, a quick disconnect belt clip, and a protective cover. I also added more photos to the ebay listing including a better picture of the tiny tiny tiny scratch. It also comes with a bike mount and a car mount So if you are interested please bid on the item on ebay
  9. The last year or so I have been using a 60scx and have been loving it. But I do not like having to carry a palm pilot too. I did set up GSAK so I could get some info shown on each cache. But for most caches rated above two stars or mystery or multi's I needed the pilot. So yesterday I got a 300. Put a 4GB sdhc card in.... worked great. Upgraded firmware to the latest. And off I went geocaching. It took a while getting used to that wheel. Then I discovered that I had to change the profile for geocaching. In that mode it defaults to track north.....I had to set it back to track up. Lots of little complaints like the screen is not as bright. It seems like there are a few more step for switching between road and off-road routing. I like to road route in the car or bicycle and then when I get close switch to off road. It was easy to do in the 60. There is two annoying things that I think I have seen posted elsewhere. One is that sometimes at startup it starts like normal and then fades to nothing. Restarting it fixes that. I had a problem like that on my 60 and it turned out to be a bad connection with the microsd. Cleaning the contacts fixed that. I am not sure what this is about. The other thing I noticed is that it froze a couple of times. Lost all button functionality including off/on. Undoing and reinstalling batteries fixed it. It happened twice this afternoon. Both times the batteries were showing 1/2 full and it had been on and sitting in my pocket for about 15 minutes??? BUT I JUST LOVE THE Geocaching description, hints, past logs and logging. So I am hoping future firmwares fixes the power glitch (or I can return). But I am keeping this one and selling the 60.
  10. Got my Colorado yesterday. Loaded it up and am having some fun with it. I now have a 4GM SDHC card in. I was able to load all of CN NA on the card and still have about 2-3 GB left. So two thoughts come to mind. First... will the colorado work with an SD card larger than 4GB... like 8GB? I have seen one thread that kind of tortured the guy asking the question until he bought one and then refused to tell everyone else the answer.... I thought that was pretty good.... Second question.... with 2-3 GB left on a 4GB card... why would you need more. I am going on a big vacation this summer to NJ, NYC, London, and Norway. So I will probably load ALL of NA and ALL of Europe. I will have about 1-2 GB left. Then I can load 2000 caches in the specific areas I will be in. That will be <5MB.... right? What would I use the rest for.... more caches as waypoints and poi's??? The consumer in me wants more memory but I am not sure what that does for me.
  11. How do you load maps to the SD card. I do not see that you get to select where the maps go when you load them from mapsource. I have a colorado 300 with a 4gb sd card.
  12. Excellent. Thanks for the replies. I think I will wait till May when the online retailers get them and lower prices should become available. But I AM Getting One !!!
  13. I have a 60csx and love it. But I do not like geocaching with the GPSr in one hand and a pilot in the other. So when the Colorado came out I thought Oh Boy!!! One unit to do it all!! Then came all of the bad reviews on battery life, no caches on map, sluggish startup, sluggish operation, and many other complaints. So I figured I would stick with my 60 and palm and hope for a firmware update. The new firmware came out a few days ago and there are a spattering of responses in a bunch of topic areas that seem to show that almost all of the complaints have been addressed. Is this true? Is the Colorado ready for prime time Geocaching?
  14. I have had a 60 csx for almost 2 years now and I love it. I regularly load it up with my 1000 caches. I also load up my palm pilot and off I go for two handed caching. Along come Colorado with the promise of one handed caching. No more fumbling between the gpsr and the palm. Only load one unit and not two. But from scanning all of the posts I am getting that the Colorado is not currently capable of handling the large pocket query files. It starts slowing down with files of only a dozen or so caches. My question is: 1. Is this true? 2. Can and will Garmin fix it with a firmware update? Thanks bobkeenan
  15. I am going on vacation next summer in Norway. I have a 60csx and was wondering what maps were better, the City Navigator NT V9 DVD for all of Europe or the Nordic City Navigator SD card.
  16. I am going to Norway. I was going to get a Garmin City Navigator NT Europe DVD but then I noticed there is Nordic SD card. Does anyone know if there is a difference in quality of the map coverage. I did notice that the DVD only had detailed coverage in Norwegian cities. It is not clear what the SD card has.
  17. My friend, you are asking to any Greek person to plan his/her holiday for 2008 !!! This thing STILL does not exist here in Greece.I mean planning our holidays for 2008. If you change your target, for planning about the first coming weekend you may find one or two volunteers ! But for the year 2008, sounds like an alien project. Regards. YanniG This is so funny. My daughter spent a summer in Greece doing volunteer work. She loved it. But she warned me that Greeks live in the moment and do not plan well for the future. Most of the replies that I got on the Home exchange sites say something like "we would love to come to Sacramento but it is too early to think about 2008". This is in stark contrast to the Germans. We stayed there last Christmas. Planning a year in advance was almost too late!!!
  18. Hi, We are Geocachers from Sacramento, California USA. Every couple of years we take a big trip to different parts of the world. Lately we have added geocaching to our traveling. Last Christmas we hiked all around Germany getting Caches!!! In order to make trips like this more affordable we do home exchanges. We swap homes and cars with the people in the other country. It makes the trip affordable and you get to meet new people and live in real neighborhoods instead of tourist areas. We are members of several Home exchange services onliine (homeexchange.com, homeforexcahnge.com, and intervac.com). Our neighborhood is LOADED with caches. Many of them are mine and they are Very good....even if I do have to say so. So let me know if you have any interest in a home exchange next year in 2008!!

  20. Been there and done that. There is a mapsource micro card with Italy and "parts of Greece". I was hoping that maybe a geocacher had come across something.
  21. We are planning a trip to Greece later next year. Last year we went to Germany and the Garmin 60 Csx was great for ALWAYS knowing where we were. In addition we had a great time geocaching around Germany. I would like to do the same in Greece. While I don't have to have mapping to geocache.... it is nice to have touring around a country. BUT.... as far as I can tell, other than Athens and a few other cities there are no vector maps available for most of Greece.... what's with that?? Anybody know of any maps that will work with the 60Csx
  22. I am opening up a new cache. I have done several before. But I have never created a cache description with a photo included. I have posted pictures with a "found" but never on one of my caches. How do I do that?
  23. I was in Germany this Christmas. Between driving around the country and geocaching I fell in love with my Garmin 60csx. I had a German map microsdcard that I bought for the trip. About a 2 weeks into the 3 week trip.... and now I am totally dependent on this thing.... the screen fades away and the unit is off I turn it back on and shortly after starting it fades away again... This just continues. The only thing differently that I did was I left the unit on overnight. But new batteries made no difference. I then put in my own microSDcard with City Navigator NA and it worked great I then tried putting som pressure on the German card and got it to work. temporarily Finally.. after more fiddling... it seemed to stay on. Anyone else have a problem like that? I am guessing that there is something about the German card that was not making full contact in the 60? I am further guessing that if full contact is not made.... it shuts down???
