  1. Part of what I enjoyed about the complaints thread was reading the not-specifically-geocaching complaints - people just venting about a crummy day - I don't know if the compliments dept can be stretched quite that far so first - I compliment the site, the admin and the recent really fun cache that I found (I have few enough caches that if I describe it, it will spoil it for others - but it was FUN and I found it before Alpha did. I am sitting warm inside on a cold day - I'm about to make a cup of hot choc. and spend a five min break surfing the fora. Life is good. Who can I compliment on that? beta Lemming
  2. that nobody expects the spanish inquisition. (sometimes this python thing is like a compulsion) Beta Lemming
  3. Wasn't sure of the best place to post this...and this seems particularly apropos.... I know I'm a relative and inexperienced newbie, but all opinions count for something. I like this sport I like this site I like the way the Groundspeak staff seem omnipresent and pop out of the air to answer questions and fix problems I hope that, big people that they are, they're not taking all the recent sort-of-derogatory posts personally in any way. I'm certain I'm not alone in this sentiment. Thanks Jeremy and co. maybe I'll treat myself to a membership for my birthday - to show some support. Beta Lemming
  4. We try (in our huge experience of what, five caches now? not having a car limits our options a little) to find without the clue first - then if we feel we're stumped we decrypt by hand - actually, if we find the cache without the clue - which has been the majority of the time, I like to decrypt the clue afterwards anyway to see if it would have been helpful. (Glutton for punishment). I find by the time I've decrypted a few words using the chart - the rest becomes almost legible on its own.
  5. that's certainly the impression I got from reading all those posts. Well put.
  6. Honestly - I went out for a swim - checked this when I got back and there were about six new, really impressive designs - I can't draw worth beans - but I sure can appreciate it.
  7. For the formal - Gustav #5 (really like this logo) For the informal - Leatherman #1 seems perfect!
  8. Actually - I was just trying to say that I was glad you didn't think it was stupid of me to wish for two logos-of-common-usage. But I didn't want to put it that bluntly. So what I really meant was. thanks Beta
  9. was probably the wrong word to use... quote: Nobody has to 'approve' any of them. Agreed - I meant it in the sense of approval by the masses (kinda like that radio channel that was so unanimously approved recently for geocaching communication) for common usage and recognition. (recognition in the sense of 'hey! I recognize that!') glad long dogs thinks the idea is not totally devoid of merit. Still holding out hope for Gustav (but apprciative of all the offerings) Beta
  10. I suppose having two 'approved' ones is out of the question? I understand the need for a simple logo - it's just that the ones that Gustav has produced have so much versatility, and are so visually appealing - I know I'd really like Gustav's on a coin, or a hat - but I agree, I'd rather not have to draw it myself. Beta
  11. - I was going to suggest that it would be simplest to focus on just the black and white version - since people will color it in to suit their wishes - but maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a consensus on preferred colors - to make it feel more of a 'team' patch - then people can change at will - but default colors (or black and white) are in place?
  12. IF we were to choose something like Gustav's original design - could there not be *ahem* 'derivative' designs as spin offs? For example - I like the early designs because they are so clean lined - but I can see the appeal of having a cute little thumbtack on it too - couldn't BOTH be available, once the original selection was made?
  13. I'd vote for any of the Gustav logos (1-4, color or not) with a very very close second for Team Bohica - I think they're beautiful, elegant, and I'd be proud to wear them....on a t-shirt, or find them...on a coin. is it time to start a poll for this yet? Beta Lemming As an aside, I'm looking forward to reading whatever info Groundspeak provides (when it's ready) re their proposed die. I suspect it will be a truly equitable and classy solution.
  14. quote:Martial Arts is good for young girls.... wonder what that statement will stir up??? Hearty support. Was that more or less what you were expecting? Beta Lem. ps - sorry to have had a light hearted moment in the middle of what was clearly a pretty serious discussion - I was led astray by the tone of the earlier posts.
  15. Are you sure about that 'intelligent MAJORITY' thing?

  24. That sounds like a really worthwhile and valuable item - I'd be proud to be first finder for it. (not that I'd turn my nose up at ANY first finder prize...still pretty new at this)
