  1. Logging it as found is an easy way to keep it out of future pocket queries. Wont the ignore list also keep it out of pocket queries?
  2. A cacher in Arizona stumbled across a murder victim one time. April 24, 2004 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt= The cacher who found the body has since deleted his logs, altho others mention it. Mention of it is also on the archives of the local listserv.
  3. My goal was to just walk again after injuring both knees in March. Thats accomplished, now Im hoping to walk 0.1 mile without pain 3 times a week. That may take some work or revision. Another goal is to work on the Arizona Cache a Day challenge. So far, we are on target for it. We also hope to break 1400 this year. We are 16 away from that. Seems doable. Beyond that, our main goal is just the experience of caching. Having fun, being together. We tried one power trail for the experience and doubt we will do that again. Just a few caches each time seem good enough for us.
  4. I might not hide any more, and I might lose some incentive to find too. I enjoy posting logs that relate our experiences at the cache. Its my blog lol.
  5. If I know the cache hider is a kid, I make sure I write a great log for them. I can just picture them giggling when they read the log, all excited over their cache hide.
  6. Prior to reading this post, I got curious and checked out a cache of mine that is almost 7 yrs old. It is located in a scenic sculpture park. Up until 2007, the logs were about half long posts and half unique one or two line posts. A lot of photos too. Since then, they are almost all one line posts, some generic copy/paste and some with something unique to say. Based on that cache, the quality of logs has definitely gone down. (The cache is Rx: GPS prn for anyone who is interested.)
  7. I personally know of one cacher who archived all of her cachers because of one or more cachers attitudes. She had caches that were above the usual run of the mill caches.
  8. My one needle in the haystack cache, since archived and resurrected by another cacher. It seems to be a favorite though. The cache is somewhere on that thing in the photo, within reach of the sidewalk so no climbing is necessary. Old Glory Old Glory resurrected
  9. We dont always find caches so Im hesitant to insist a cache is missing. I will only post that "it is gone" if Im certain of it, for instance if it is a cache I have found before and am returning to to pick up or leave a travel bug. And only if Im sure it has not been moved to another hiding spot. I have often posted that "I think it could be gone" if the area has had some major changes like construction etc. Usually I will post a dnf or note if I think it is missing, then send the cache owner an email with a more detailed description of the area and what I found so he/she can evaluate the likelihood of it being missing. If there are several DNFs and the cache owner is among the missing who havent logged on for months, I will post a maintenance request to alert the reviewer.
  10. We won't mention a few previous because it angers one of our friends, but we just saw them disable one yesterday. If it hadn't been found today, we have no idea where that was going... You sure it wasn't a fake find log to avoid this very situation? That's what this issue is going to drive CO's to do, post fake finds so the reviewers leave them alone. Knowing the cachers who found the cache, Im sure it isnt a fake log.
  11. Hate needle in a haystack types, with one exception. For some reason, a micro (not a nano) hidden somewhere in a metal object is fun for me. Challenging hides have their place and can be fun when you can find it with some effort, and it isnt just a matter of dumb luck. All my hides are meant to be fun, whether they take you to fun places, or are set up to give you a laugh. Some succeed more than others, but I think our caches do fairly well at providing a worthwhile caching experience.
  12. Rio Verde is a nice scenic power trail. Its in North Scottsdale, almost in the Cave Creek area. Search on Rio Verde East 1 and you can easily find the east and west series, along with other caches at both ends of the trail. The scenic views on the east end were stunning even to an old time desert rat like myself.
  13. "Tricks pulled". Can you explain that, 'cause I'm starting to feel like I've been had. I should have known there was more to the story. Another Arizona cacher mentioned some things that were done with the cache to make it harder to find. I will pm you the thread on a local forum. You were not "had". My posts on this topic are of genuine concern over the perceived interference by a reviewer. When I learned that there was something else to it, I felt I should post it here since it supports the concern of the reviewer. Even tho it makes me look like a bit of an idiot lol. Like that is a change for me.
  14. Since I brought it up, I have since learned, and feel like I should post some information I got regarding the cache in Arizona. It looks like there may have been some tricks pulled that made it more difficult to find. Im only hearing this second hand so I prefer not to be specific. Given that, there may be a good reason for the reviewer to post his log on the page and disable the cache.
  15. That cache wasn't archived. It was disabled. It's not unheard of for a new cache that has lots of DNFs to need some maintenance from the cache owner. Perhaps the coords are bad. Perhaps it is no longer there. All the cache owner has to do is ceck up on it and make sure that the cache page info is good. The cache owner checked on it twice, and posted on it. The cache owner told someone who was looking for it that he was within 20 feet of it. The cacher at the time was standing a few feet from where the gps zeroed out at. This was not posted on the site, but I heard about it today when I was searching or it.
  16. Lotta bricks on that wall... Sorry to interrupt again, but how many of us following this thread would have been on that wall like butter on popcorn? I was all over that wall. Those bricks are real.
  17. To be fair, although he may be out of state, he is our local reviewer.
  18. Apparently this is not an isolated event. A local cache only a couple of days old was just disabled because no one was finding it. GC21D5M
  19. Here are two bookmarks I have for good caches in the Mesa etc area. Top 20 Favorites Good Urban Caches AZWheeler has some outstanding caches in the Gilbert area, not far from the Mesa city border. Nearby Apache Junction has some good hides too. Nearby South Mountain has some nice hiking caches. Not that Im biased lol, but you might enjoy my caches too. Hope this helps.
  20. I often have time when I cant cache and I get kind of bored so I will pull up some puzzle caches and solve them. When Im sure I have the correct coordinates (verified) I "count coup" on them and post a note. Solving the puzzle is part of my geocaching experience even if I never will go out and get the cache.
  21. I hope the fix for the bookmarks is coming soon. I finished the requirements for a challenge cache, and pulled up my bookmark to list the caches I found that meet the challenge. I deleted some from it I dont need then pulled up the bookmark again. Half the caches in it have disappeared. I am certain I did not delete them too. I went to one I know is on there, and sure enough my bookmark is listed on that cache page, yet I cant find it listed in my bookmark. Now I will have to go through all of my cache listings to find the ones that meet that challenge, instead of using the bookmark itself. Is this part of the known problems in the bookmarks that is being worked on?
  22. I am handicapped, and unfortunately even more so lately. I am not in a wheelchair though. I find that I will choose 1-2 star terrain caches and read the cache page/ first few logs as well as check maps/ satellite images. That usually gives me an indication of its accessibility. I appreciate it when a cache owner puts on the cache page a comment or two about its accessibility.
  23. There have been several cases of folks having non biting contact with rabid bats and they got rabies shots anyway. Even an open scratch that is on you for any other reason could get infected with rabies virus from bat drool. It has happened to others.
  24. Some of my bookmarks for my listing of challenge caches moves around from one page to another, out of order, sometimes disappearing. Its a bit frustrating to try and keep track of where I am with my challenge caches. Im hoping this is a bug that will be fixed eventually.
