You go into the settings under map and you can choose which maps to show (you can show them WITH the streetmaps, or on their own, or your streetmaps alone).
That is correct, sorry I didn't get back to this quicker, been kinda busy.

This is WAy beyond me! Any suggestions out there?
Seems to be an issue with the webpage. I tried it on Firefox and IE just now and both would not work for me. Not sure what to tell you at this point. Try again later perhaps...

Uh, what GPS you have?
-
BigCarbonFootprint, I got the free TOPO map here GPSFileDepot

To really make use of the Nuvi's paperless caching abilty check out http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html. I use it on my 205W and it is great.
I also downloaded the FREE topo maps from http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ for it.
In case of rain carry a sandwich bag with you. You can put the Nuvi in it and still use the touchscreen. Just be careful and don't drop it...
In case that happens I bought a Speck Tough Skin case for mine also.
Hope this info is helpful. I neither work for nor stand to gain anything from mentioning these products or websites. I just have past experience that was positive.

The manual is indeed a good place to start with ANY new equipment...

Just use common sense. If a place gives you the creeps or you are uncomfortable there don't stick around. Wait and go back when you have someone to go with you (or you can pack heat! JUST KIDDING!!!!)

Disregard.

wrks fine in car but have yet really understand the full features to help me find my first geocache
It is not really made with geocaching in mind, as far as actually "finding" the cache. The DeLorme software and GPS are used for street routing to get you close to the cache site.
Most certainly would not go thru the woods carrying a laptop searching for a cache! I download the caches to Street Atlas and my handheld GPS. SA routes me to the cache location then I use my handheld to actually seek the cache.
We now return this thread to it's original topic, sorry for the derailment...

You would need a receiver to "convert" the satellite signals into something the laptop can use. You can get a variety of Bluetooth, USB and other GPS made just for a laptop. A good source for information is http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/
Hope to see you over there.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 205W, GSAK and http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html tutorial to do paperless caching.

Might want to merge this with the thread started earlier.

Have an old DeLorme Hyperformance GPS with a 4AA battery pack in it. Don't use it any more and have a 5v regulator as well. Might make me a backup power supply as mentioned. Lithiums will be $$ but will last a lot longer even if I leave it in my swagbag.

I use Firefox on my laptop (Acer Aspire ONE) and home PC (Both XP). On work PC's we have XP. I use FF (with IE emulator for stuff that doesn't like FF). Everyone else uses IE but I installed FF on all units and try to get them to use it...
