  1. I recently purchased DeLorme SA 07 and I'm wondering if these maps are compatible with the Meridian.

Also - for whatever reason, I'm having trouble with my PC recognizing the gps is attached. Is there something I need to configure (baud rate?) to make them see each other?

DeLorme will not work on your Meridian, you must use the MapSend products from Magellan. For turn-by-turn routing get MapSend DirectRoute, preferably Ver 2. MapSend TOPO 4.20c is also a product I use and like.

Default BAUD rate is 4800 as previous poster mentioned. This needs to match the COM port the GPS is attached to.

    Hope this helps!

  2. On the 6th anniversary (April 13, 2001) of my joining the forums I am just looking back at a few things.

Actually found my first cache, Pilcher's Pond GC302 on April 6, 2001. The 2 nearest caches to my home at that time were that one and Iron Horse GC89, both 25 miles away in opposite directions. Nearest now is about a half mile away.

Have seen places and things I would have not seen if not for this sport/game/hobby/? (whatever you choose to call it).

Have met a lot of people, every race, creed and color. Everyone from janitors to CEO's and all in between, handicapped and not. Folks I now call friend, from next door to around the globe, and I am thankful for all of them. That is what makes it so much fun! Some are still around, others were swept back into "life" and don't participate anymore.

Have done caches that I will remember for the rest of my days and some I forgot as soon as I pushed the ice pick to start my Geomobile (people that have seen my car know of what I speak :D.

Tried to be helpful when I could and kept quiet when I couldn't.

Just the ramblings of a rabid hampster... back to my wheel and cedar shavings!

  3. I too let my Charter Membership lapse briefly and but it was caught in time to preserve it.

Glad Groundspeak stepped up on Scott's behalf and fixed this.

Bad press is always remembered but good press is quickly forgotten.

Way To Go Michael & Groundspeak!!!

  4. If anybody wants to run their MapSend program without CD's/DVD's, this will work.

This is what I have been looking for as well. Dowloaded hex editor, changed the 2 digits and it works like a charm!

Now I can install DR on my laptop and use it for real time tracking. THANKS!!!

  5. I'm new to geocaching. I see there's an option to download waypoints and the file-type ends in ".loc"

I downloaded a few cache waypoints (from geocaching.com) and then tried to upload them to my GPS unit but the Magellan Meridian didn't recognize file type ".loc"

Does anyone know how to get these file types uploaded to my unit? Is there upgrade software? I see Magellan has some stuff pertaining to geocaching on their website (http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?tab=0&PRODID=1717) but it appears to be for the eXplorist model.

You must convert the wapoints to a format the Meridian will recognize. Try EasyGPS or GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)

  6. I will note that, as mentioned much earlier in this thread, the autorouting on the PN-20 is not so hot. The chief drawback I have noticed so far is that it takes a long time to type in an address, as there is not autosearch/type ahead aspect--you have to enter the state, then city, street number, and street name letter by letter in its entirety. If you misspell something, the device can search for a lo-o--ong time. It only routes to an address block, not a specific address (this is like MapSend DirectRoute in this regard), and it lacks POIs like restaurants, hotels, and such. Some of that might be improved by buying Street Atlas.

Delorme has acknowledged that the PN-20 is intended more as a recreational GPS than as an autorouter. I'll see it as a backup unit for my Quest for car use, but I think it will be my prime unit for hiking and caching.

Will the PN-20 street route from waypoint to waypoint like DirectRoute will?

  7. On the one hand, as observed above some of these are pretty glaring oopers to make it out the door in the first place. However, with a fix in place 4 days after reporting the bug, I'm feeling reasonably confident that they'll whip this into a pretty good GPS in short order.?

HEY MAGELLAN, YOU READING THIS??? 4days for DeLorme to fix a bug and the Meridian line still has bugs after YEARS  ...

Guess where my next GPS purchase $$$ will be going? Hello Maine...

  8. It is the simple serial cable, to hook your computer into a 315, 330, SporTrak or Meridian.

NO other plugs - just the serial connector and the connector for the GPS unit - it is brand new.

    Is this what you need?

Really need power/data cable. Thanks for the response though.
