  1. I need to correct myself. I got to thinking about it and looked to check. The OzMtnGeocachers group first post was about three months before the ArkGeo first post, so they came first. ArkMo, however, came about 8 and a half months later, so I right there. Anyway, we've been around since January 2003.
  2. oops this was before it was up yet. Arkansas Geocachers Org. Actually we came before either one of those, but we weren't well known, and at that time our site was www.ArkGeo.us and we mostly used the yahoo group (ArkGeo). Same group, just a new, improved website and address. We mostly use the forums on the new site now. The old site address now points to the new site, so either works, but we decided ArkGeocaching.org was more descriptive and appropriate.
  3. I didn't see us mentioned, so I'll add the Arkansas Geocachers Association at ArkGeocaching.org
  4. The name change is now complete. The old ArkGeo.us site is now set to forward to the new ArkGeocaching.org site.
  5. The Arkasnsas Geocachers Assocation has moved their web site to: ArkGeocaching.org It is the same group, and same site, and even the same server, but with a new, more accurately descriptive URL. The old ArkGeo.us will forward you to the new site.
  6. The Arkansas Geocachers Association has a new web site and a new URL. It may take until Friday for this new URL to sync throughout the domain name system, but the new site is at: ArkGeocaching.org In the meantime, you should still be able to get to the site at the old URL: ArkGeo.us After the name change has had time to sync, we will update the old site to just forward to the new one.
  7. The Arkansas geocachers group is the Arkansas Geocachers Association. Our web site is ArkGeo.us. We also have a yahoo discussion group called ArkGeo at Yahoo Groups.
  8. Ok, here's mine: Arkansas Geocachers Association And this one -- sort of... LongDogs
  9. Yeah, he was supposed to call me back too to firm up details. There were supposed to be at my cache at Pinnacle. Was the ranger or park superintendent there? I understand he didn't call them back either.
  10. First, I would be concerned about protecting a cave from the inexperienced traffic a geocache would generate. Second, I've never seen a GPS that would work in a cave...
  11. We are just a group of geocachers who got together after the public hearing for the State Park Geocaching issue, and decided that we needed a local forum for discussing these issues. I created the yahoo group as a connecting point for such discussions, then I put up the web page to provide a better "public" presence and link to the discussion group. A number of the members of the Ozark Geocaching Association subscribe to our group too. We are really just a group of "concerned geocachers" who are willing to work together to resolve issues like geocaching in the state parks, to take care of abandoned caches, etc. There are no dues or membership requirements, other than just signing up for the yahoo groups discussion forum.
  12. You guys should try working with the Arkansas Geocachers Association. We're not very organized yet, but it is a start. Our primary point of contact is a yahoogroups e-mail group. You can subscribe to the arkgeo yahoogroup or get more info here: www.ArkGeo.us
  13. For those following the issue, the new Arkansas State Park Geocaching rules have finally been approved. The parks are generally giving everyone with a cache in the park 30 days to get the permit. At this point none of the parks I'm in touch with have received the cache permit stickers which are to be placed on approved caches, however, all of the parks seem to be responding favorably to the idea of geocaching. There are links to both HTML and the original MS Word documents I received from Sandy Burch and Greg Butts on the Arkansas Geocachers Association web site: www.ArkGeo.us
  14. The state is giving everyone 30 days to get permits for existing caches. Most parks (none of the ones I've talked to) actually have the permit stickers yet. However, I've been told not to remove my cache, and that they'll get me a sticker for it as soon as they become available. So far my experience with the park staff has been very positive and they seem to like the idea of geocaching and caches in the park, as long as they are reasonably placed. As for the policy and permit, you can find both web (HTML) and the original MS Word documents directly from Sandy Burch and Greg Butts (ASP Director) on the Arkansas Geocacher Association web site: www.ArkGeo.us
  15. You can find the original documents and permit on the Arkansas Geocachers Association web site: www.ArkGeo.us
  16. Just so everyone knows, the Arkansas State Parks have revised their proposed rules, and although a permit is still required, it is good for one year and renews automatically unless it appears the cache is harming the area. Also the container restriction is lifed. The only requirement now is that you get the container and location approved by park staff, who will issue you a permit sticker to put on the container. I consider that quite fair, and a significant improvement over the originally proposed rules.
  17. quote:Originally posted by solohiker:Some of these cachers are pretty long winded so if you run into them on a cache hunt be prepared to listen. I hope I wasn't one of them. Actually I didn't get to stay and socialize long either. Had to get back to work.
  18. At the end of the meeting I suggested they sell "Arkansas State Park Geocaching Stickers" (other than the permits on the caches) that could be purchased to place inside the caches. They seemed to think that would be a great itea. To them it means possible income, so it is a win-win situation.
  19. Well, I have a cache in Pinnacle Mtn St Park that I'll get a permit for as soon as they are available.
  20. Would you be interested in joining an Arkansas Geocachers Association? (A loose affiliation of people interested in the enjoyment and promotion of geocaching in the State of Arkansas.) [This message was edited by LongDogs on January 16, 2003 at 01:43 PM.]
  21. After reading the messages here, and from the discussion in the hall after the State Parks meeting, it is clear to me we need an Arkansas Geocaching Association. To promote this effort, I've created a yahoo group called ArkGeo for discussion of geocaching in Arkansas. You can join the e-mail group by visiting this web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ArkGeo/ or by sending an e-mail to: ArkGeo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Longdogs

  25. quote:Originally posted by solohiker:Don't you check your caches three times a year anyway? Not to argue a moot point, but the way the original proposal was written, the cache had to be removed at the end of the 4 months. I don't permanently archive my caches every 3 or 4 months.
