  1. Here's one. My mission is to travel to GCH8Q7, Head of the Dragon, which is the start of a road that is very popular with motorcyclist because it is an 11 mile stretch of road with 318 curves. There are a good number of accidents on this road because of motorcyclist pushing their limits and non-motorcyclist not noticing motorcyclist and this coin would be a good reminder for them to be careful and for the non-motorcyclist on this road to keep an eye out for others. It would be great for this coin to make it to this cache by September 11, in time for the Women's Sportbike Rally which is held at Fontana Village a few miles from the Dragon. This way not only could the coin remind motorcyclist to be safe, non-motorcyclist to watch out for motorcycles and it could hang out with a large group of women who ride motorcycles.
  2. My brother had an accident a few years ago while riding to his father in law's house. He was riding along the road that he traveled most every day and never had a problem. He was going through a curve and found some gravel and down he went. Luckily, he was not going very fast and did not slide very far. He slid enough to tear up his pants, and get a nice case of road rash on both hands and arms. My mom called to tell me he had an accident but was okay. I then called my brother and asked how he got the rash if he was wearing gear. He told me that he only had the leather jacket so he wasn't wearing it because it was so hot. He also didn't bother with his gloves because he's stubborn. Well, I went to ebay, bought him a jacket and told him I never want to hear that he got road rash because it was too hot again. Of course, since then, he hasn't fixed his bike so he's not riding but he has a nice mesh jacket for when he starts back. Or when his daughter learns to ride it and takes it from him.
  3. Here's my first accident story. In August 2006, I was learning to ride a motorcycle. I had taken the MSF class to learn the basics, I had bought all the gear you could buy (jacket, helmet, pants, gloves and boots) and I had bought a bike. My now ex husband was "helping me" learn in an empty parking lot near the house. We spent an hour or so up there with me practicing going around in circles. I had one unfortunate drop there but that's not the one for the story. I got back up from that one and rode around a little more, then I decided I was ready for the road. Unfortunately, I really wasn't, just didn't know it at the time, and he never told me any different. I rode around the neighborhood a little after that and then planned a big ride for an upcoming weekend. Myself, my ex, and a few guys from a local motorcycle forum all got together and rode over to Pine Mountain. The trip there was fairly uneventful (except the bike stalling in the driveway, falling over and breaking the blinker). Well, there is this one road that goes over the mountain, it has some good curves on it so that's what I was looking forward to. We got to this road and my ex was leading the ride, then me, then the other guys. My ex turned on the road, then a car pulled up at the stop sign. They were patiently waiting their turn to go when I was ready to make my turn. I slow down, put on my blinker, start my left hand turn and then think "wait, there's a car there, don't hit them, be careful". Well, of course, now I am watching the car (who by the way is still not moving from the stop sign) but while I'm staring at them and doing my best mentally to steer away from them (you know the old saying, look where you want to go). I wind up driving off on the dirt on the right side of the road. Still no problem as I haven't lost control and I'm heading back towards the roadway. Well, then I notice the sign directly in my path. Now I make the biggest mistake of the day and decide that riding a full sized bike with street tires, on dirt, I can not only turn hard left to avoid the sign, but I can give it gas at the same time. Needless to say, I wound up in the dirt with the bike laying on my leg. That ended my day as I wound up in an ambulance with a possible broken leg and my busted bike wound up in the back of a truck coming back to my house without me. Wound up that all I had was a really nasty bruise that took about a year to heal completely. So, lessons learned that day. 1. Don't rush getting on the street, a little more time in the parking lot can do wonders. 2. Make sure the person helping you learn and leading your ride considers your best interest when helping or advising. 3. If the car at the stop sign isn't moving, there's no need to watch it as you try to turn beside it. 4. If you go off in the dirt, don't give it gas and don't try to make a hard turn. 5. Wearing full gear can save some injury (even if you burn up on the side of the road waiting for the ambulance). 6. Make sure you buy a bike that isn't too heavy for your friends to pick up off you if you wreck (they accidentally dropped it back on my leg after finding out it was heavier than they expected). 7. Percocet and Vicodin combined make you sound pretty funny to your friends when you try to tell them what happened. And the last lesson of that day: Don't let mistakes or accidents take away something you enjoy. Get back on that horse.
  4. I'm not good with photoshop but you could use something like a pic of a hand opening an ammo can or cache container of some sort and put around the edge "Pop goes the geocache"
  5. Need a New Sun Rising - Ronee Blakley
  6. Great idea. Here is the background for me. In 2004, my now ex husband and I started geocaching. We used the name that he came up with. When we separated in 06, I decided to continue caching but needed my own name. I collect (and some would say am obsessed with) all things bear. Well, during the separation and subsequent divorce, of course, my sanity came into question many times. Plus, some of the things I have done in my past involving live bears make my family and friends question my sanity. So, I was discussing geonicks with some other cachers and my mom and said I needed a new one so I could keep caching. Everybody was throwing around ideas but none of them spoke to me. Then the comment was made that it needed to include bears since that was my other hobby. I looked at my mom and said well you have accused me of being barely sane sometimes when it comes to outdoor activities and bears, so why not bearly_sane. It seemed very fitting to me since it was an apt description of my mental status, most of the time.
  7. Wow, thanks. I used the exact same method. I googled "Dorris City Hall" coordinates and got about 12 sites with them listed. Although one site showed slightly different numbers and that's the one I used. Thanks again.
  8. My mother has and always will be my rock. No matter what has gone on in her life or mine, she has always been there. She raised me and my brother as a single mom. She worked 3 jobs at one time to give us the necessities and some of the luxuries of life. She has suffered with ulcerative colitis since she was 21 years old and no matter how bad she was hurting, if we needed something, she took care of it. When I found out that my now ex-husband was having an affair, she was there with advice, comfort and whatever else I needed at the time. She took me in during our separation while at the same time she was dealing with my grandmother who had fallen and broken her hip. My mother has helped me find a new house, helped me move, took care of me when I was sick or had surgery and learned to geocache because I enjoyed it and she didn't want me out there alone. (She's not a big fan of the outdoors). A few years back, I got to return the favor when my uncle (who my mom raised since she was 6) passed away suddenly. It was the first time that my rock needed someone to be her rock. She and I have always been best friends and she turned to me for support. It was the first time I had seen my mom in so much pain but even then she tried to make sure my brother and I were taken care of. She is a wonderful mother and a great friend, I don't know what I would have done without her all these years.
  9. A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards. The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way. The man, who was a priest, said, " I am a Father." The little boy replied, "My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that." The priest looked up from his book and answered "I am the Father of many." The boy said, "My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren and he doesn't wear his collar that way." The priest, getting impatient, said, "I am the Father of hundreds," and went back to reading his book. The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said, "Maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar."
  10. This one cracks me up every time I look at it.
  11. I have no mystery coin and would love the dark knight coin. I have several reasons and even though you don't require them, I thought I would share anyway. 1. I ride a motorcycle that I call "the bat" because the front looks like the cowl from Batman's costume. 2. My username on motorcycle forums is Batgirl. 3. I have been a Knight for 16 years (although since the divorce, I am going back to my maiden name). Okay, those are my reasons for liking this coin and wanted to add it to my collection. Thank you for the opportunity.
  12. I'll guess 28 and 53. The time of day - 11:13 a.m. EST Have a safe and great trip.
  13. Email sent but I don't know how to attach a pic to a message through your profile.
  14. Are these orderable somewhere? I collect bears and would love to add one to my collection.
  15. M45 also called the Pleiades is where the emblem for the Subaru cars was drawn from. It is also referred to as the Seven Sisters although most people only see 6 stars. This object is commonly mistaken for the dippers.
  16. Cool coin. I will have to watch for it to come out. Would go great with my Batgirl persona on the motorcycle forums I am on.
  17. Congratulations on your runner up. Too bad you couldn't have been the winner since you didn't photoshop your pic which would violate the rules.
