1. Ah, I thought they had the same info, it's just that pocket queries had more "search" capabilities! I'll look into that! Thanks!
  2. All the waypoints in the files that I download list the cache type as "Geocache," would it be possible to change that to the actual cache type? For example, instead of <loc version="1.0" src="Groundspeak"> <waypoint>
the white house by flask
<coord lat="42.5811" lon="-76.2072833333333"/> <type>Geocache</type>
</waypoint><waypoint>
Fall Creek Rocks by Tofu Shake
<coord lat="42.4575" lon="-76.4527666666667"/> <type>Geocache</type>
</waypoint><waypoint>
Pirates' Booty by Finn McCool and Molly
<coord lat="42.71055" lon="-76.149083"/> <type>Geocache</type>
</waypoint></loc> It could be <loc version="1.0" src="Groundspeak"> <waypoint>
the white house by flask
<coord lat="42.5811" lon="-76.2072833333333"/> <type>Virtual</type>
</waypoint><waypoint>
Fall Creek Rocks by Tofu Shake
<coord lat="42.4575" lon="-76.4527666666667"/> <type>Traditional</type>
</waypoint><waypoint>
Pirates' Booty by Finn McCool and Molly
<coord lat="42.71055" lon="-76.149083"/> <type>MultiCache</type>
</waypoint></loc>

I went with this option for now and it is working out really well! I figure that I can pull the list down every so often and then merge it with the one on my server so it should be ok that it won't show archived caches, I'll have them there already. I am running into a problem though. I made the proper icons for each cache type, but the type field in the .loc file only ever says "Geocache" so I have it default to the Traditional Cache icon. Is there a reason that it's this way? Could the server side code be changed to put the proper type in? If you like you can have a look at what I've got so far by going to the link above. There is an issue with the pop-up windows and there is something fundamentally wrong under IE. The caches don't show up at all there. But still not bad progress I think!
  4. That line would lead me to believe that it wouldn't be listed, but that you could set it up and post the details here.
  5. Webcam Cahces are "Grandfathered" as well! Why is that?!?!
  6. I've heard a lot of good things about this chip, is there any way to find a list of all the devices tha use it?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'll give it a shot. I have been playing with the Google Maps API recently and I would like to create a map that would list all of the caches that my girlfriend and I have found. I have two choices, I can try to tie directly into my user account somehow, or I can just make a cache config file and update that each time we find a new cache. Hooking into my account would be preferable as I wouldn't have to update two places each time. Is there anyway to do that? -=EDIT=- To get an idea of what I'm going for you can go to www.MooProductions.org/maps and check out what I've got so far. It's only a few cahces and doesn't have a lot of info about them because I am pulling the data from a config file and I wanted to ask about tying into my account before I went too far in that direction.
  8. Posting a reply to a thread brings it to the top of the list. People who post "Bump" want the thread to stay near the top but have nothing really to add.
  9. I like them too, but then again I really enjoyed stroling through cemeteries before I found geocaching so it's kind of a bringing together of interests!
  10. That was a good idea to have a link to making a map like yours. I need to do that, as I've been getting a lot of emails lately asking about that. I was just going to ask where you got your map! I like my profile, it's pretty plain at the moment, but I haven't been caching long so it should shape up!
  11. You could add those stats in your profile yourself. It won't show up under the cache types, but you would still have it on there.
  12. 1) Use the Geocaching page to search for caches in your area 2) Have Fun!
  13. I am looking at getting a GPS Smartphone and I just want to make sure that I am looking at all of my options. I would like it to have the SiRF III GPS module and I would really prefer it to be quad-band and have BlueTooth capability, also it must be GSM based, other than that I am pretty open! So far I have found four phones that have this set-up (well, one is tri-band) they are: Mitac Mio A701 (PocketPC, Tri-Band) Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox T800 (PocketPC, Quad-Band, WiFi) E-TEN G500 (PocketPC, Quad-Band, FM Radio) ImCoSys Smartphone (Mobile Linux, Quad-Band, WiFi) Have I missed any?
  14. Sneaky, but it worked! Thanks!
  15. But I would like to upload a picture that would be too much of a spoiler so I can have it in my gallery, but not associate it with a particular cache. Is there no way to do this?
  16. You probably saw it but I just wanted to point you to my post about a new GPS Smartphone.
  17. That doesn't make any sense! It doens't cost anything to use a normal GPS! It's probably a feature that they turn on and mark your account $10 a month, but I bet you could figure out how to turn it on if you searched around the internet. Well the phone is not going to come from a store here, it's going to come from the maufacturer, so there should be any such issues!
  18. REALLY! That's good news! But what does it mean when the specs for the module say that it's accuracy is either 10m or 5 m, but the specs for my iFinder says it's accurate to 3m? Are they talking about different things? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I just started playing with GPS and I still have a lot to learn! @planewood This phone does play MP3's but doesn't have a camera, they say theydesigned it on purpose that way so that it could be used in areas that wouldn't allow cameras, but it does have an SDK and WiFi, so if you are software inclined you should be able to whip up something that does what you want in pretty short order.
  19. I found out more about the GPS module that comes in this phone for anyone else who may be interested. It turns out it's a SiRFIII GPS unit. Some specs on this module... So I guess it's not that great as a GPS, but it has a lot of other features that make it pretty cool... Depends on what you're willing to sacrifice I guess.
  20. I have just started Geocaching and I got a Lowrance iFinderGo on ebay for $50 shipped, but I have seen that there is a new, Linux-based smartphone that just came out that also has a GPS module. The company that put it out is called ImCoSys and you can find more info out at this website (translation courtousy of Google) I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this unit. It seems like a nice little thing and I'd like to hear more about it.
