  1. Yep, same problem here.

Oakcoins.com has the GPS Maze Geocoin on their list of coin codes but when I gave them my tracking number it said "That coin's not found in our database ."

Until Oakcoins has the activation code available, please send us an email to contact@geocaching.com and we can help you with the codes.

Nice seeing all of you at the event!

Thanks for the info! It was great to see you saturday!

  2. Came across this on Twitter

@PacSci Pacific Science Center geocoins are in and look outstanding! Available Saturday during our grand opening of GPS Adventures!

$14.99 with science center logo on one side and signal on the other.

    Hope they have enough!

I got one and it looks great but Oakcoins doesn't recognize the tracking number to give me an activation code. Anyone else have this trouble?

The activation code is on the paper tag that came with the coin.

Actually I think it's the Lackey coins that came with the activation code, the GPS Maze coins didn't. I know of others that are having problems getting the codes too from Oakcoins. Must not be in the database yet.

  3. why have Groundspeak decided to sell them?<< looking for a fact and not an opinion.

what metal is it made from?

I can't answer the why, but I can tell you the metal appears to be antique silver. We went to the GPS Maze event today and they were handing them out to people, for free.

Edited to add that they also come unactivated and with the activation code. Unlike last years coin which you got already activated and they kept ownership of.

  5. I hope no one minds if I hijack this thread just slightly since the question has been answered by a few and I kind of have questions regarding the same topic.

I don't belong to a coin club but have given some thought to doing a "coin of the quarter" (1 coin design available every 4th month)(trackable/icon).

Is there really reasonable interest in this kind of club and do people like surprise designs or a special metal/color combo not available to non coin club members?

I've been thinking about it for some time but just haven't really made an effort to find out if it is worth doing or if it is something people really would be interested in.

What is it that people like about the coin clubs? The surprise design or just a special version or combo of both?

    Sign me up!!!

  6.

I looked at the textmarks website and it says it's only available in the US.

    OOPS! missed that.

That'll do it. Guess I'll have to move!

    thxs

Come on down, our economy sucks but we're a friendly group!

  7. Been a few threads about this - seems hotmail is not accepting emails from Groundspeak right now. Best bet is to open a gmail account and then have it forward mail to your hotmail account.

There's been a continuing problem with Hotmail/MSN not getting emails from Groundspeak. I do what StarBrand suggested, got a gmail account for geocaching and have it forward my emails to my hotmail account, works great!

  8. Huh, I kind of figured Wherigo would have caught on a little more than one cartridge in all of Seattle. I don't have a Wherigo-enabled GPS, so I haven't been paying attention, but is there something up with Wherigo cartridges/caches that makes people not want to create them?

Generally speaking.. they are difficult to program for the average person, I think it is coded in Lula.

A lot of the complaints I hear is that cartrages are buggy and crash, more on the Oregon then the Colorado, and while there were some updated to the builder last year, Garmin hasn't updated the player. This is what I heard and I may be wrong.

Personally I don't have a device that plays them and the builder seemed very unintuitive when I played around with it. YMMV.

We tried building one when it first came out, but it was a PITA! The builder kept crashing the computer, so we gave up. There have probably been some updates since then, and I believe there's now a better guide to building a cartridge, so we may have to revisit this.

  9. Thanks for the great info Jon!

I would like to add a couple of tips for dummies (me). You do need to go to the http://coord.info/textmark.aspx link and register your phone before you can use this service. Then, when you send your text message you need to make sure you have a blank space between the geoc and the @.

Sent the text GEOC to 41411 as in the textmark instructions but yet to receive my 'Device identifier and PIN'

Actually sent 2 text messages GEOC & "GEOC"

    any ideas.

    p

I just tried it and got a response pretty quick. You don't need the "", just geoc

Try it again, maybe it was just a blip in the service.

  10. I started this geocaching business not long ago. I stumbled on this web site by accident and thought this was a great idea. I put in my location adn alot of cahes showed up within walking distance from my house. Fantastic - or so I thought.

I spent 4 hours on 2 separate days (today and yesterday) looking for a total of 10 caches. I found exactly diddly. Either I'm dumb as a bag of wet hair, or these things are placed in such obscure locations that only the one who put it there could ever really find it.

Here is a list of the caches I was looking for.

    GC1J78Q

    GC17MH0

    GC1MY24

    GC1KK91

    GC18TAA

    GC1HJC4

    GCK20K

    GC1AWDY

    GC1J787

    GC1KK93

This is completely ridiculous. I should have been able to locate at least ONE of these things. Not ALL of them were micro. This has just about put me off this business. I thought it would be a good thing to get my kids into, but this is a horrible thing for them. It's really a horrible thing for me. Maybe in a group or something, but really...... Very disappointed!

The first few caches you listed are micros or small. Try looking for the larger sized caches first!

  11.

I admit I'm way late bringing this up because I haven't been paying attention to Spring Fling, but it sure makes it harder to say "We give back to the parks because of our CITO efforts" when we undermine those efforts by scheduling conflicting events on the official CITO weekend. Not only do they draw people away from attending CITO events, but they also discourage people from hosting them because of concern that the conflict will result in poor attendance. There are 51 other weekends to hold non-CITO events, and now Flash Mobs want to draw people away from CITO events too? I find this very disappointing.

Obviously scheduling Spring Fling to conflict with the Official CITO weekend wasn't intentional. These events are planned way ahead of time before they're ever published. CITO weekend usually falls around Earth Day, which is April 22nd this year, so it was assumed the CITO weekend would be around that date.

Although there are 51 other weekends to hold non-CITO events, there are also 51 other weekends to hold CITO events!

Flash Mobs only last 15 minutes, so I don't think they will draw people away from anything.

  12. Ah, come on guys, I am a VERY unorganized person - Yo would nOT want me to put one on . However, would be willing to help as long as it isn't too far north :anicute: .

So. isn't there a set day each year or something :) ?

    Not it!

May 2nd is the date. More info at The Podcachers Forum

  13. Well just stay tuned. When the page is posted it will all become clear. we have a deal on hotel rooms in Lewiston so please hang on

I'm staying tuned but haven't seen any details on the hotel deal. Is that resolved yet?

Lewiston is your best bet. Inn America (702 21st St, 208-746-4600) is offering a special geocachers rate of $55 a night (+$4.68 tax) for a double or single room. In order to get that rate, call the hotel direct and tell them you are with the geocaching event.

  14. So I figured out how to get the field notes to update Twitter but I still can't figure out how to update my location on Fire Eagle.

    Any help here?

    Thanks

I read somewhere that they removed the Fire Eagle from the sharing page because it was causing problems.

  15.

    Saw this in another thread.

    Hello! Link your

    account with

    device identifier

    XX#NNNNNN and

    password XXXX...

Enter the entire identifier (XX#NNNNNN), where XX is a two letter combo (mine was TM), the pound sign (#), the numbers, and then the password is the 'PIN.' After putting the whole identifier in, it took right off.

Ahhh, that fixed it. Seems a bit confusing for the identifiers to be parsed that way, oh well. Thanks for sticking with me and helping to figure it out!

    Yay!

  16. have you retried sending the text message GEOC to 41411?

yes, I have done it a few times now and it always sends back the same numbers

  17. bump

If I remember correctly, I had the same problem when I tried to set mine up. I think the problem was with the phone identifier, it had some letters in front of it, and when I took the letters out and used just the numbers, it worked. I really can't remember, but it was something like that.

Unfortunately my phone identifier doesn't have any letters in it so I can't really test that method. Any other suggested fixes?

have you retried sending the text message GEOC to 41411?
