  1. I was in GI Joe's in Lynnwood a couple of days ago, and in their hunting and fishing area they had about three dozen 50 cal ammo cans for sale for $3 each! They didn't have any smaller 30 cal cans, but they did have a larger size (about 1/2 Ape cache size) also, for $21.

I never even thought of GI Joe's. I'll have to take a look. Thanks!

  2. You could make the first reflector a led turned on when the sun goes down. Should be an easy thing to find an old solar powered sidewalk light and modify it to have a red led.

This is one outstanding idea, thanks! Sadly, I'm about inept as they come in the realm of mechanical/electrical engineering. This is exactly the kind of thinking I'm looking for, though.

    Keep the ideas coming!

    Thanks,

    MW.

We have a night cache in our area that uses LED's controlled by remote control. The first waypoint has the remote (you can also bring a householde remote from home, they work too), and then when you get to the next waypoint, you turn around clicking the remote until you see the blinking LED. Below the LED is a tag with the next coords. Then the final has a light shinning on where the cache is hidden. SO far this is my favorite cache yet.

  3. Both this Foxhole and the one in Puyallup are gone. I'm not sure if they've moved or are out of business. Foxhole used to be my source for ammo boxes, too.

I suspect they may be gone then - as the one in Bremerton disappeared a year or so back. (No surprise for that one - they'd shifted from (way overpriced) military surplus to random (way overpriced) junk.)

Yup, Foxhole is no longer on S Tacoma Way. I heard they moved to Lakewood somewhere. There's a place called The Duffel Bag just down from where Foxhole was, and they had ammo cans.

  4. How can you possibly call it hoarding when the rules that we signed when receiving the jeep clearly states: two weeks from the begining of the contest, that would make it Aug 14.

Interesting..you can spout the rules to everyone else, but you don't have to follow them? It's well past the two week period and someone still hasn't released their jeep......

  5. Don't miss their podcasts, Thrak (and remember, it's O's not 0's). Whoever writes their copy is hysterical.

After a while, you'll notice some repetition. Golf clubs, wine, breadmakers, speakers, MP3 players, video projectors. Excellent deals, but refurbs or recently discontinued models. Check the discussion threads to see if something is REALLY a good deal.

It's best if you check just at midnight. Periodically, they offer the famous Sack of Crap, which sells out in minutes. This is...well, I don't know what it is, but each one costs $1 and you can buy up to three. It's stuff they haven't been able to sell conventionally, so it's bound to be worth more than a buck. I'm never up that late

I LOVE woot! I check it everynight. It changes at 10pm our time, so it's the last thing I do before heading to bed. They do have some pretty good deals sometimes. In fact, that's where we got our gpsr from and how we got started geocaching!

The grab bag specials they have are actually called 'Bag-o-Crap', and they usually are fairly much just that. The last BOC I got was an ipod cover, remote control dinobot, some random book and a knap sack which for awhile was the geocaching backpack, until we upgraged to a bigger back pack. Anyhoo, I give it 2 thumbs up.

  6. How can you possibly call it hoarding when the rules that we signed when receiving the jeep clearly states: two weeks from the begining of the contest, that would make it Aug 14. On my calendar that has not happened yet. And yes ,some of us went to events and received additional jeeps not just the mailed ones. And CoreyNJoey you did not even take a photo to submit to the contest . ( Which is the reason for the jeep contest, you can not win if you do not take a photo) Some of us might be waiting to take that creative photo in order to play the contest game by the rules and figuring out just what photo fits this months theme. Remember the jeeps are the reason for the contest, they are not just ordinary TB's you are supposed to enter photos into the Contest. READ THE RULES. TO TAKE PHOTOS and submit those photos once a month as we find jeeps. Lets get real, and not label anybody as hoarders when the contest has barly begun. Gez get a life, or go caching.

Wow, did I strike a nerve? Feeling guilty?

Anyhoo, I did submit a photo. My photo was one of the first photos on the site. I released the jeep and got a photo, all on the first day of the contest. Why? So other people who didn't get a jeep in the mail would have a fair chance of playing.

If people want to wait to get that perfect picture or wait to place it in the perfect cache, I have no problem with that. I'm all for people being creative and having fun.

If people want to hoard the jeeps, they're perfectly allowed to do so. There's no rule against it. That doesn't mean I have to like it.

  7. CoreyNJoey in your post you contradict yourself. You clearly state 'but you clearly aren't doing anything wrong...as long as you place it within the 2 week period " contradicts your first statment "I've seen some hoarding going on already" How can there be any hoarding when two weeks is not even up yet. ANd yes everyone was entitled to one in the mail others received them at events or retrieved them from caches. No where does it state you can not have more than one in your possession, at any one time. If a cacher has 5 jeeps in their possession then theey are entitled to take up too 5 photos for the themes stated. And they just might need some time to be creative. Furthermore they coud be writing up D@#! good caches to place the new jeeps into. The definition of hoarding :Hoarding is the excessive collection and retention of things that interfere with day-to-day functions.

I don't think I'm contradicting myself. My personal opinion is I think it's rude to hoard them. If someone has 5 jeeps in their possession, then those are 5 jeeps out of circulation that others can't find. Since day after day, people are searching for jeeps and none are to be found because someone has them in their collection, then that meets the definition of hoarding.

However, the rules don't say anything about hoarding, just that they have 2 weeks to release them. As long as people are playing by the rules, then it's all good.

I think I got a little off topic here. My main point for this particualr thread was that the original poster hasn't done anything wrong. He clearly isn't hoarding and he has plans to release it within the 2 week period.

  8. I've seen some hoarding going on already, and although it is frustrating that people aren't releasing their jeeps as fast as I'D like, the rules clearly state

    Jeep 4x4 Request Form

I agree to place this 2006 Jeep Travel Bug into a cache within 2 weeks of its receipt

people can be annoyed, but you clearly aren't doing anything wrong...as long as you place it within the 2 week period :anitongue:

I for one will be looking for it!

  9. My question is How many people are going to hord them?

I've seen some hoarding going on already. I've seen a few people that have 3 or more in their possession. The one I received, I released immediately and was hoping whoever grabbed it would do the same, but no luck. It's unfortunate, but what can you do? Some people don't play the game fair. All I can do is if I come across one and grab it, is to release it as soon as possible and give others the opportunity to find one.

  10. I know that there is not a way to check up the status of a Jeep TB order. So I thought I would try to see if anyone else may have received one, or if anyone knew if they were shipping them yet. I would pretty much get a clue then. I know I sent my application out on the first day they were posted and have not gotten one to date. Still keeping the fingers crossed.

    anyone?

I received mine today in the mail!!!!! YeeHaw!!! Of course, I live just south of Seattle, so I'm pretty close to Groundspeak.

  11. I have a new night cache, Control the Night, that uses an infrared remote, or any TV remote control, to activate a receiver with a blinking LED. The receiver marks the location for coordinates to the next receiver. The final has a receiver that activates a laser, which points out the location of the final, an ammo can. I'm just hoping that I can keep up with the batteries. :D

We did this one the other night. It was very cool! Started a little too early, as it was still light out. So, it took us awhile to find the first waypoint, but once it got darker, the LED's showed up better. It's kinda creepy sneakin around at night, which just adds to the excitrement. I'm fairly new to geocaching, but it's ones like this that I look for. Very creative and unusual!
