  1. Nice link A.D. I had to turn the volume ALL the way up... Now my whole office is freaked out.... "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  2. Wow...after reading the info on your link I totally agree. What a stupid concept. I have no problem using hours, minutes and seconds instead of the "new" time unit known as a "beat" (0.001 days). But then again, I prefer gallons, feet and pounds, too. But think of the jokes about someone with a watch that was off by 1.44 minutes...they would be a beat off!! Ha! I kill me... (I miss ALF) "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  3. Interesting idea. Desiccants are great for removing humidity from a sealed container...I don't know how well they will work in a cache, but I sure am curious. I'm sure they will need to be "re-charged" quite often (just place them in a warm oven to dry them out). I have seen color indicating desiccants that turn from blue to pink as they become saturated. These would sure be nice to use so you will know when to "re-charge."" "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  4. Latitude only requires you to switch signs (N to S, S to N). Think of it this way...there would be a line that runs thru the center of the earth. If you are 67 deg North of the equator, the line would end 67 deg south of the equator. North pole is 90 N, South Pole is 90 S. Just swap the N/S. See this picture... EDIT....You edited your post just as I corrected you, you sly dog you!!! "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." 5. I doubt your entire map is shifted. Most of the maps have errors in position of some streets (my Meridian shows me off-roading for about 10 miles on my way to work!). Drive around a bit more to see if it is just an error on the location of some streets on the map before you assume your GPSr is defective. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  6. You must have missed THIS thread... "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  7. You can download the manual from Magellan's website...HERE "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  8. Routes on the desktop are very quick, end easy to edit. You can download these routes to the handheld. SR and dboggny is (are) right...you can search on an address without it being in the address book (but it is WAY faster if it is). Thanks for pointing that out. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  9. The Delorme X-Map Handheld maps can be downloaded to the SD card on a Palm. I have a 25Mb map of the Chicagoland area (From Beloit, WI on the NW to Valparaiso, IN on the SE). You can do address to address if you have it in your Palm address book (or if it is a POI on the map). You can enter waypoints (by clicking the map not by lat/lon...someone correct me if there is a way to enter by lat/lon) and use them for routing, too. You can also combine these methods and have intermediate stops on your route The auto-routing is pretty slow...5-10 minutes is not uncommon on my Palm m130. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  10. Mine was brand new. I sent them only the GPS, yet I got a brand new unit (still in the box with the cables/owners manual/batteries) plus they also sent me a case, windshield mount and a car cig lighter power adapter. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  11. Try HERE "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  12. My dogs name is Stunod (Stu for short)...which is actually donuts spelled backwards (not the Italian slang). Mmmm...donuts... "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  13. At highway speeds my GPS just about matches the speedometer in my Chevy, but is 5 MPH slower than my buddy's BMW. Great German engineering, huh? "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  14. You need to check a day of the week that you want to receive the file...if you check the current day you will get it shortly (mine have come within 5-10 mins), "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  15. I have a clip on GPS for my Palm, and the Rand-McNally maps take up a ton of memory. I use the Palm for road navigation, but not for caching since I picked up a MeriPlat. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  16. Jamie- If I were you I would just get an RMA and send it in at your convienence. As I said, it took 7 days round-trip from Chicago (they are in Tulsa), so if you know there is a week that you can be without your toy, get it fixed. I doubt that you caused the problem yourself. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  17. My Meridian Platinum developed "blue spots" on the screen that could only be seen when the backlight was on. It looked like a fingerprint or smudge on the screen. Magellan has identified a problem with the backlight assembly and corrected it. It seems there was some sort of contamination during production of the backlight sub-assembly. They are now producing units with a redesigned backlight that will not be subject to the same problem. I contacted Magellan thru their website and received an RMA number to return the unit. I sent it in via UPS last Monday and I received a NEW unit today (Monday - 1 week turnaround). They also threw in a windshield mount, cig lighter adapter and a carrying case for my troubles. According to Magellan, not all units will develop this problem. They only received the redesigned units last week, so I doubt any of them are in stock at any of the stores yet. I would suggest that you turn on your backlight and look to see if you have any of the blue spots. If so, Magellan will replace the unit. This is the only problem I have had with my Meridian, and I was very satisfied with the way it was resolved. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  18. Just go to THIS page and select your search criteria. You will get the file that goes on your Palm e-mailed to you. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  19. Where have you found the 256MB SD cards so cheap? I'd like to get one for my Palm, and I could see if it works on the Meridian, too. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  20. Maybe some parents just need to take responsibility for the upbringing of their children. Quit blaming others for your problems. I can't be a bad parent...it must be that video game/movie/rap song/etc that turned my kid into a delinquent. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  21. Are you sure someone didn't move your car? Just being a smartass... "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  22. Just to give some perspective on storage capacity, I have the entire state of Illinois, plus the southern part of Wisconsin (and the areas of surrounding states that fell in the rectangle) and the file is only about 25MB. Saving the map thru the Meridian is a huge hassle, takes WAY too much time. Pickup a cheap USB SD reader/writer, you'll thank me later. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  23. I have a m130 that I won in a drawing. I really like it, but have little to compare it to. As far as geocaching , the pocket queries are much better than the paper printouts! "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  24. Harmony is in NY...Brooklyn I believe. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  25. You will want to get one of the MapSend programs (I recommend Topo) and an SD card to store the maps on. Without maps, you will only have the 16MB base map, which shows major roads/highways, but not local streets. Both Topo and Streets have the same level of detail for raods, but the points of interest sets are different. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
