  1. Avatars must be jpg, so I'm pretty sure you can't have an animated one. I think gif is the only format for the animated pictures. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  2. quote:Originally posted by Kewaneh & Shark:Usually, from about 10:00 until 15:00 the satellites have a weak configuration. Not unusable, just weak. The best times for multiple satellites is before 10:00 and after 15:00. Interesting...I have never heard this before. Could you give us some more detail about this (Perhaps a link for more info)? I understand that the constellation repeats itself every 24 hours (less 4 mins if you want to be exact), but wouldn't New Orlean's constellation be different from yours in Fresno? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." [This message was edited by Stunod on January 02, 2003 at 02:17 PM.]
  3. quote:Originally posted by CCrew:Most PDA GPS's aren't capable of doing lat/lon waypoints and are centered on road routing. I have a high end iPaq with the Navman sleeve, and it does a good job of road routing with the right software, but would suck at trying to geocache with it. If you have a Palm OS unit you can use GeoNiche or Cetus GPS to overcome those problems. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  4. A few steps will give you the direction. The GPS calculated altitude is usually good enough. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  5. Meriplat users also have COG (Course over Ground). For the Platinum BEARING is the direction to the cache, COG is the direction you are moving, and HEADING is the direction you have the GPS pointed in (as calculated by the electronic compass). "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  6. quote:Also, if the car is German engineered, you will likely find the speedo is 5 km/h off (give or take) This is alledgedly due to stiff manufacturer's fines (in Germany) if the speedos read low. My friend's BMW reads 5 MPH under the GPS speed, while my Chevy just about matches the GPS. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  7. I had the exact same problem with a SimpleTech "Flashlink" SD card reader. I tried it on 3 different PCs...same problem. I eventually bought a Dazzle reader and it works fine. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  8. quote:7) A bad satalite constelation not giving your GPS much to work with. I pretty typically get a full strength signal from 6-8 satelites. You can still have strong signal strength, but if the satalites are in a poor constelation (position in the sky) your GPSr will not be able to calculate your position well. 9. Try Crucial.com...they have a real easy to use memory selector. Their prices are pretty good, too. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  10. You can download a pdf version of the entire Ram Mount catalog at thier web site. They have better pictures and option listings there than the site you linked to. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  11. Yes, the MeriPlat does have a thermometer. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  12. Here's a way to solve your problem! Go to "Hide and Seek a Cache" and enter the zip code. When you get the list of caches nearest to the zip, click the link near the top labled "Make these my home coodinates." When you get the page confirming the chage to your home coords, click "Seek nearest caches from your home coordinates." At the top of the results page you will see your new home coords. For your ZIPs I got: 32174: 29.2872, 81.1237 32176: 29.3264, 81.0562 According to Map Maker on lostoutdoors.com, the first seems to be by a rest stop on I-95 and the second in someone's front lawn near the beach. Hope this helps! "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." [This message was edited by Stunod on December 27, 2002 at 01:32 PM.]
  13. I think the site Jamie was referring to is THIS ONE. EDIT: I just noticed that if I enter the coords from the above site into the "Hide and Seek a Cache" page, I do not get the same results as when I enter the zip code. Close, but not the exact same. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:Ever think of adding an "export" feature? I would like to be able to select/deselect items on the list manually, not just with the filters/searches. And, of course, I would like to save the modified GPX. Thanks for your nice work on this, though! "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  15. Jamie - Any problems getting your RMA? "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  16. A lot of us here bought our Meriplats from Harmony Computers. They have them for $249 now...and their shipping is very reasonable (less than $10 from what I remember). Harmony's price and service was discussed earlier in this thread. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." [This message was edited by Stunod on December 24, 2002 at 01:56 PM.]
  17. Magellans only use the MapSend software from Magellan. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  18. As Jamie mentioned earlier, I got a NEW unit and some freebies (case, windshield mount, cig lighter cord). I had known about the blue spots for some time, and was aware that they were in the process of "redesigning" the backlight (read about it in the yahoo groups forum). So I contacted Magellan and told them I wanted to be on a "waiting list" for a redesigned unit...I did not want to recieve a different unit that may also have the same problem. When the new units arrived, I was contacted by e-mail and sent my Meriplat in to be exchanged. So far I have had no problems with the replacement (knock on wood). Everyone I spoke/emailed with at Magellan was very helpful. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  19. I have seen (and used) the term "GPS Food" for AA Batteries in a few logs. A Google search of geocaching.com will reveal many instances of its use...see HERE "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." [This message was edited by Stunod on December 20, 2002 at 10:57 AM.]
  20. Very happy to see this update...installing it now as I type! I just checked their site 2 days ago to see if there was any update...I guess I must have checked a little too early. BTW...according to the Meridian yahoo group message board, the MyMeridian customization software DOES NOT work with this new firmware. Now we need to wait for that update. EDIT - As Li'l Boyz Club points out below, MyMeridian DOES work. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." 21. The Meridians do float, but I don't think I'd try riding one... "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  22. I would guess that it is just bad map data. I have x-map also, and I have found many highways and even entire neighborhoods that are not shown in their true position...sometimes off by 300'. My Meriplat has the same problem (but not in the same areas - different map data sources, I guess). "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
  23. I think the wording in the approved cache makes the difference. It is not REQUIRED to give a donation...only take a photo at the site to log it as a find. "Because of the nature of these "urban" hides there won't be a log book, so you must post a photo of yourself with gps in front of the structure hiding the cache box." "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."
