  1. Looks like fun! Maybe next time I'm in Memphis visiting my parents
  2. How new is the 660? My husband just got a 350 (well, I got it for him) and he's been really happy with it so far. Through froogle.com, I was able to get it for a *great* price - just over $600, including shipping.
  3. Good thinking. I still haven't published the cache yet (lost my eXplorist this weekend, but that's another story) and am contemplating other things in lieu of the playground series.... The standard of cache placement seems very high here in Savannah compared to what I see complained about here in the forums and I want to do my part to help keep that standard high.
  4. For what it's worth, the caches I am planning on hiding will not be ON the playground equipment. They will be near the equipment (just close enough that the little kids with them can play while the parents look for the cache) and will have explicit spoiler hints encrypted in the cache listing to avoid detection and suspicion a much as possible. --Kristin (the future soccer mom as soon as the 3.5yr old is old enough)
  5. You're right. The cache I want to place is a favorite park/playground of me and my family and I'd love to bring cachers there even if it's just for the little ones to get a chance to play...
  6. Personally, yeah I would, even if something unforeseen happened at a 1/1 that I had placed. Legally, no, I would not feel guilty.
  7. This has been a very interesting thread as I have been contemplating starting a series of caches, specifically on NON-SCHOOL playgrounds. I often have no choice but to cache with my 3yo who loves playgrounds. He's not nearly as interested in caching as in sliding, so I rejoice when I see that a cache is near a playground. I had thought that a playground series would be fun for those of us who cache with kids and that a playground would be a nice reward for kids, moreso than an ammo can or a film container..... Now I don't know what to think about continuing... I have just started typing the listing for the first one, none have been published or listed or anytyhing yet...
  8. I got a Z22 b/c it was there. If I'd taken the time to research for good buys, I probably would have gotten an older used one off ebay. The Z22 is great and I love it (it was only $100) but I'm sure I would have been equally happy with an older one. Paperless caching is awesome.
  9. I'm 30 (31 next month), my husband just turned 29 this past week. My kids are 3 and 1
  10. For the first time, today I tried to add a bookmark list for a trip next weekend. When I select the caches from the map and then click to confirm, I get this error page... I am working in Mozilla Firefox, but got the same error in Microsoft IE as well. Edited to add... I tried adding them one at a time and 11 at a time and neither try worked.
  11. No reason to remove them. It's an accurate depiction on what happened on that caching trip. DNFs aren't failures - they're just an excuse to go caching again :-P
  12. My family goes caching all together. I'm the only one with an account - all my husband cares about is tracking stuff down, this computer stuff is just incidental to him (lucky for me, I love it!). We aren't a "caching team", this is MY account... So, if we're all out caching and he's the one that actually finds it, should I not log it? Again, if you have a problem with it, don't play that way, but don't worry if others are - it doesn't affect you in the least. I think the puzzle analogy above is a very good one.
  13. I would be flattered :-P I would think that if someone took the time to type out their explanation in that thread then they wouldn't mind at all!
  14. I *just* upgraded to V4 tonight and caches that I just looked at yesterday are now showing *completely* wrong, using the GE KML files. There's one boat-needed cache near here that is now showing in the middle of the field. I hope it's just a glitch that will be worked out. I also wish I'd read this thread before I downloaded V4, not after.
  15. OK, I'll work on some stuff and see what I can come up with --Kristin
  16. Holy jumping off the deep end. The OP didn't state it was THEIR cemetery, just the cemetery where their grandparents are buried. Just having family buried there doesn't make it their cemetery. Absolutely. Cachers have as much right to visit cemeteries as any of the hobbyists listed above. I know I've seen it listed more than once that a caretaker of a cemetery has actually come out and helped or has hunt with cachers in their cemetery. My mere presence is not disrespecting of anything or anyone. It would be my actions that would be disrespectful and I take great pains to show respect.
  17. Yup. I appreciate the cemetery caches b/c they are a sort of tribute to the people who were buried there. In the town where my parents are (where I lived with them for 20+ yrs), I found an old slave cemetery less than 2 miles from where I grew up. I had no idea and I had a great experience just wandering around, taking it all in. One cacher around here has a few cemetery caches set up as as a puzzle/multi type thing where you get some info off a headstone to get your final coords and then the cache itself is off cemetery property.
  18. I've been having this same issue. I download from GSAK, using the GPS, Send to eXplorist menu commands. If I mark a POI, then it displays on the compass screen, but if I do GOTO, Nearest Geocache, and then select the Geocache, it doesn't display on the compass screen. I'll go play around with it some and see what I can find....
  19. Well, before I bother... My set would be for digital scrapbooking. Is there any interest in a geocaching digi-scrapbooking set?
  20. Yup they did ... Ahhh.... So that would explain why, when I went there, there was just the map paper and the die cut title... Hmmm... Maybe I'll make a set and offer it for free. I think that would be OK with Groundspeak.... ::runs off to check licensing rules::
  21. That's an awesome layout I love the idea of doing a caching scrapbook - that would be FUN!
  22. As a newbie to geocaching, but not to message boards, ...thank you to the moderators for doing what I know all too well is a mostly thankless job. I know how much work goes on behind the scenes in addition to what we all see every day and I appreciate the hard work you put in. Thank you also to all of the reviewers! Without you, we wouldn't have any caches to track down...or we'd have ones in the middle of the ocean with no one double checking the coords Thanks!
  23. 2000 Mistubishi Montero Sport - 6.30mpd Ouch.
  24. Closest, not owned by me - W 1.6mi Closest, not found - SE 2.5mi (those are the posted coords for a puzzle cache, the actual cache is approx 5mi away) The other next closest not found is SW 2.8mi but is a 3/3, so my guess is that I shouldn't take the kids if I'm hunting this one by myself
