  1. I gave them to someone traveling to Antarctica to drop off in a cache, but they never made it to their first stop.
  2. I have several travel bugs in my inventory that haven't been seen for years. I can't figure out how to delete them. Anyone?
  3. One enhancement I would love to see is list building from the map, i.e.: drag a box around an area on the map and all the caches are added to a list... It would also be cool if all the cache names could be toggled to display on the map (not just individually when hovering) as I like to print out a map of the area I'll be in and plan my route from that.
  4. It seems like you're loading things in a random way. The only folder where the GPSr will find a Geocache GPX file is in [OR Drive]:Garmin/GPX Yes, but when that did not work, I tried experimenting with other locations. This process is poorly documented, so I thought maybe I just had things in the wrong directory. (I did not, it just wasn't working like it is supposed to). As a stopgap, I found that I could pull them up as waypoints, albeit as coords only, without the cache page info, hints, logs, etc. UPDATE: While manually moving the files onto the GPSr did NOT work, yesterday I was able to successfully load a .gpx file from a pocket query via the 3rd-party "iCaching" software.
  5. Still no luck with this - I have tried everything. I can *see* the .gpx files on my GPS when looking via the computer, but cannot find them ON the GPS or NAVIGATE to them. I have tried dragging them around to different directories on the GPS, makes no difference.
  6. Those options have been broken for a very long time due to modern day security patches in most browsers and Groundspeak hasn't invested any effort to get them functional again. The Firefox plugin for example hasn't worked in years. (IMHO) I suspect that Groundspeak doesn't care about the site functionality and appear to be trying to force us all to use their pathetic apps for caching. I was under the impression that "Send to Garmin" from the lists page was a *brand new* feature? Groundspeak sent me an email announcing it?
  7. No actually, we are leaving in the morning for a trip across the state - closest caches will be about 135 miles from home.
  8. There is a "Garmin" folder, and inside that a "GPX" folder. Tried dragging the files to each location, no dice. These were individual GPX files, because my pocket queries don't work - I've double checked my email preferences, and double checked my spam folder, and it doesn't seem like I'm getting my pocket queries at all...
  9. I am about to pitch my Oregon 650t out the window. I cannot, *cannot* get it to accept geocache information, either individually from the cache page "send to gps" button, or through the "Send to Garmin" button on the lists page. Have tried both methods on both Windows and Mac computers. Have installed (and re-installed) Garmin Basecamp, Garmin Express, and Garmin Communicator. Have updated Mac OS. Have tried Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari. Seriously, it's maddening enough to make me want to quit the whole friggin' game...
  10. Does anyone know a source for determining how many geocachers play the game worldwide? I'd also like to know how many countries have active caches - wikipedia says only "more than 100". I need the information for a presentation to a scout troop on Tuesday - Any help would be appreciated!
  11. Take this with a grain (or a bushel) of salt. http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/05/i...gest_drawi.html
  12. OK, but if the bug's goal is "East Podunk", once it *reaches* East Podunk, I don't think it *will* keep moving. Won't it just bounce around it's goal like a moth battering itself senseless against a street lamp...?
  13. After more than a year and approximately 4,000 miles, the Unite for Diabetes TB ("Glace Bay, Nova Scotia - TB1BP7Z") I launched in December 2006 is very near to reaching it's goal. My question is this: Once it's goal is completed, is the bug retired, or....? Personally, I would favor sending it to some remote spot on the globe and letting it find it's way home again.
  14. Overall I'm very pleased with the direction the site design is headed, and I'm perfectly willing to wait for the dust to settle before picking nits - many thanks to the unsung heros at Groundspeak for all their hard work! I do have a comment that I haven't seen addressed in the forums yet, and I wondered if anyone else had noticed this: Cache pages are arranged more or less in three vertical columns, with the menu buttons on the left: "Getting Started", Hide and Seek a Cache", etc. (on any other site this might be called the "navigation" area, but because this site *deals* with navigation, that title is reserved for the area to the right, which includes the first of two maps, and links for "log your visit", "view gallery", etc. ) In the center is the nickname for the cache, the size/difficulty/terrain, the coordinates, etc., followed by the user-editable short and long descriptions, plus the hint section. My comment is this - the columns to the left and right tend to have only about one screen of information on them. Scroll past that, and both sides are empty. It would be nice if we could reclaim that dead space by expanding the center section to the full width of the page - it would make for shorter and more attractive cache pages, and less printing for those who have not yet gone paperless. Keep up the good work, Groundspeak!
  15. The Lake Whatcom BBQ Picnic (GC13EP7) event cache has now been published! This is a casual meet & greet potluck barbecue, sponsored by the 48 North Chapter of the WSGA. It will take place from 12:30 - 3:30pm on Saturday, July 28 at Bloedel-Donovan Park in Bellingham. Check it out here!
  16. Try this site: http://www.thistothat.com/ It is my go-to source for sticky solutions
  17. I also use the Palm M100 (got it for free on Craigslist) and it does what I need it to do. I use Cachemate.
  18. Our first caching name was selected hastily, in our excitement to join the game - at the time we went by "GPWhat?" because that was my repsonse when someone was explaining geocaching and GPS receivers to me - "it's a GP-what, now?" Our current nick is the result of a long and arduous search, wherein I consumed too much peyote and my spirit guide, the majestic grumblecake, was revealed to me in a vision. That, plus it's an inside joke for fans of Homestar Runner. http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Grumblecakes Another front-runner was "Breadtangle", from the same source.
  19. I would love to see a cache rating system implemented, but I think it would be more useful if it asked you to rate individual aspects of the hunt (Is there a reason for this cache to be here? Was it a challenging hunt? Is there a nice hike or viewpoint? Is there and engaging puzzle of some kind? Is the camouflage of unusal quality? Is the cache container well stocked and maintained?) and then generated a cumulative score based on those. Also, it would be a good thing if a the ratings for a new cache didn't get posted until 5 or 10 visitors had rated it, to protect the anonymity of the rater - otherwise I might feel compelled to give a higher score than I feel the cache deserved, just so the owner doesn't look and say, "Geez, the FTF rated my cache a '1', what a tool!"
  20. I recently hid a cache named after some prominant and long-standing local graffiti - one week after the cache was published, the graffiti was covered up and replaced with something new
  21. Hi guys - on the TB's web page, click on the "found it? log it" button, then select "Grabbed it from somewhere else" option from the drop-down menu. Add a note describing the circumstances. Once you have submitted this the bug will be added to your inventory and you can drop it somewhere else - hopefully someplace that will further it's goal! Good Luck!
  22. heard back from some cachers who have done both these caches - evidently one of them is a little tricky to get to in December, as it is located on a mountain peak and is probably buried in snow!
  23. Not far from my house, actually, but involves a border crossing and an expensive ferry ride. I have contacted a couple of cachers on Vancouver Island to see if anyone would be willing to reunite these bugs Randy Team Grumblecakes
  24. I'm curious if there are any Unite for Diabetes bugs headed for my area (Northwest Washington). Is there a list of cities somewhere? Randy Team Grumblecakes
