  1. TPTB- the powers that be (usually Jeremy, et. al.) SWAG- originally Stuff We All Get- like the goody bags handed out at conventions, Here it just means trade items. Avatar- the little picture under your name in the forums, if you want help with yours, see the avatar thread in this forum And a few others you may see in logs: MEFF- started in NE fla- Most Esteemed First Finder TNLNSL- Took nothing, left nothing, signed log TFTH/ TFTC- Thanks For The Hunt/Cache. There is probably an old thread you could search for with all this and more...
  2. If you post this over in the 'Geocaching.com Web Site' Forum, The folks who could actually grant your wish will see it and perhaps reply. Just trying to be helpful.
  3. A while back, I complained to CR that folks were going to paint me with his brush for posting under 'our' account. He graciously agreed to start his own account for forum use. I am a long time lurker, but now that I am posting, it looks like I am a pro! I figure I have maybe 20 posts. Thanks in advance if you can do this! Sissy
  4. If they were MY caches, I would leave all the smilies alone. I will not leave smilies for "I was there but the cache wasn't, so I'm claiming it as a virt" and two days later I check on the cache and it hasn't been touched. If they were my hunts (CR and I agreed to never go caching without the other when we first started), we would: 1) CR would stay and I would log it for US. 2) CR would stay and I would log it for us. -can you tell who doesn't swim? 3) We would use the rope that CR always has on his pack. I am afraid of heights, but CR would talk me through it so we could both have the adventure. Judy should have read the cache page and came prepared. 4) CR would go across and sign for us both. I have waded knee-deep in ice cold water when the air was 25 deg F to aviod boulder hopping. CR was like a d@ng mountain goat! 5) Probably would have skipped this one or figured a way to circle to the top and used the rope to go down. (Don't have the gear to go up.) 6) CR has napped in the car while I hiked as far as 2 miles and signed for us. Two-way handhelds do come in handy. 7) We just wouldn't do that! And if someone bragged about giving the coords to the final on Sissy's Snarky Walk #1, I would kidnap him and make him cut my grass as an apology . 8) See above. 9) What can I say, CR always makes us late!
  5. OK, I guess I'll be in the doghouse tonight. (Equality and all that...) If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I LOVE going caching! I LOVE this website. I DO NOT CARE if it is not perfect, because it works for me! If you think CR is bad in here, you should hear him at home! Fortunately, we have other things to talk about, because we have basically agreed to disagree on this subject. In his defense...he is not a troll. He has a vision and this is the one place it is safe (except for 'warns') to try to express it. While I understand what he wants, and it kind of makes sense (more self-policing like letterboxing is), it really doesn't affect me. There are enough caches out there to last a lifetime, with more being added everyday. I only have interest in placing a few more, and can happily keep them within the guidelines. Now you know what the sig line means .
  6. Please add this to your list. This is for a stamp and has to be line art. "If you are producing the image on the computer, produce it very large. It must be lineart, no shades of gray. BMP, GIF, TIFF, or low compression JPG all work. EPS raster files and CorelDraw 10 or earlier versions work, too."--from CR's instructions. "I was thinking along the lines of....A blood hound holding a magnifying glass, possibly with a dog track in the center of the glass. And the text, ...You've been found.....trail hound! or.... A round stamp with a dog track in the middle and Trail (on top) Hound(bottom) following the curve of the stamp What do you think? Is it do-able?" -Trail Hound Thanks guys, Sissy
  7. CR has done some excellent design work for signs and for pleasure. BUT, he is a known procrastinator and may not get it done right away. (I have been waiting 3 years for a simple vinyl decal for my big truck.) The kind folks in Amish Hackers topic about avatars have agreed to help out. Trail Hound, I am forwarding your request to them. CR can handle the quick and easy stuff (I would like four letter T's in a circle), but I don't think it is fair to you to have to wait for the more complex requests. Sissy
  8. Thank you all for the willingness to work on this. As most of you know, CR uses a laser engraver to make stamps for geocachers that want them. The charge is 3 dollars, which covers the materials, use of the machine and postage, so its not like we are getting rich quick. At that price, the customer is asked to send ready line art. CR enjoys graphic design, but doesn't really have time to work on it. Lately he has gotten several requests for design work. Would anyone object if I put a link to this topic and send the requests over here? The simple ones he can handle: 'I want four letter T's in a circle'. But, 'CoyoteRed..I was thinking along the lines of....A blood hound holding a magnifying glass, possibly with a dog track in the center of the glass. And the text, ...You've been found.....trail hound! or.... A round stamp with a dog track in the middle and Trail (on top) Hound(bottom) following the curve of the stamp What do you think? Is it do-able? Trail Hound ' is more than he has time for at the moment. Sissy
  9. Thanks Stunod! That was very fast. Can't wait to see how it looks! Cool Beans!
  10. Me too! Me too! CR uses his own account to post from, because I am a much nicer person and I didn't want anyone to think that I would ever stir the pot like he does! He is the computer guru of the house, but he makes me feel not so bright when I ask him how to do something. (OK, so he IS smarter than me!) I know what I want for my avatar, but have no clue how to get it. It is a picture that is posted in a log, but I only want a portion of it, not the whole thing. If you are interested, send me an e-mail and I will send you a link and tell you what part I would like. I am not going to post the link, cuz I want CR to be surprised when he sees it! And thanks for the instructions on how to upload it. I think even I could follow those, but not quickly! Is there a way to cut and paste them for reference when I try it? Sissy PS email me at lisalikes@sc.rr.com, contacting me through the site puts it in both our mailboxes!
  11. Glad to see you are toning it down a bit today! You can come in from the doghouse now... Sissy
  12. My parents live in an RV and are currently staying in a park just north of St. Augustine proper. My mom had surgery on her foot today to correct some problems she has had for years. She had started walking every day, and that was making things worse. (I think she got them fixed so she could go caching with us next time we get together.) I would like someone in the area to deliver some flowers for me. A nice colorful, cheery arrangement from a local florist or the floral dept of a grocery store. I can pay you with PayPal if you have an account, or mail you a check. I would like to spend around $20. The closest thing I could find on-line was around $50. Plus, my folks would get a kick if someone came to the door and said he/she was a geocaching friend of their daughter and was asked to deliver them. What's in it for you? My eternal appreciation and (insert cheesy gameshow music) The use of our rope ladder if you want to attempt Sissy's Snarky Walk # 1 a 5/5 rated cache nearby, AND I will cook breakfast for you when you are in town. Can anyone help? Sissy
  13. If you are like me and absolutely can not figure how to get your picture on the computer, drop me a line and I can give you our address. If you can put your idea on paper and mail it, CR can scan it and make a stamp. (I'll also talk him into sending you an attachment via e-mail of the image so you can use it for your avatar and stuff.) Line drawings work very well. Draw it big, and he will reduce it. Gray shading does not turn out well. Sissy Edit: spelling Can you tell we have 2 computers?
  14. The store lists Bison tubes in black and green. We have a few in other colors, first come first serve. Just send an e-mail with your order. Small bison tubes: 4 red 2 copper Large bison tubes: 2 gold These cannot be lasered, there is not enough contrast for the graphic to show up well. CR can custom laser the tubes also (within reason). One cacher had us make some custom tubes to commemorate his 500th find. A note on the card-stock stencils: Craft stores sell a spray adhesive for stencilling. You spray it on the back of the stencil instead of using tape. The stencil comes right off when you are done and there is less chance of underspray if you are heavy-handed with the paint like I am. Sissy
  15. What, are you kidding? Trees and other heights are no problem. We love those of that nature so much, we put one out! Wish there were more of a physcial nature around here. We hate big money ferries, as well. Not to mention other caches reachable only by boat. Thus we picked up a used PWC! Can't wait until spring! We're surrounded by lots of water so the PWC will come in very handy! CR
  16. I'd be a little concerned about sending my password through a portal I didn't know. CR
  17. That's funny. Sissy freezes bottled water on a regular basis to drink at work and has yet to have a bottle burst on her. While I have a problem with anything like in the cache as most people will not use it, Sissy is of a different mindset. Plus, we put them in a ziplock bags to keep as much of the dirt away from the bottle as possible. That said, I have eaten things out of a cache after careful inspection, but wouldn't recommend it. I knew the risks and made that decision for myself. One of the items was a chocolate covered bug that was put in by a person I knew. I, personally, don't have enough of a problem with bottled water to make it rule prohibiting it or even counselling against it. I just have a problem with it as most people won't trade for it or drink it, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be in there. CR
  18. Yeah, that's what you were referring to when you said "...geocachers are inherently 'back door' people...", right? No? Oops! My bad! CR DISCLAIMER: I'm not homophobic or bigoted against homosexuals is any way. Please don't warn me!
  19. Wow, that's more than one hornet's nest--that's several! Generalizing atheists, marginalizing environmentalists, saying boxing is better than caching, not following placer's instructions, calling geocaching "gay" or geocachers gay (I'm not sure which), cheaters (or maybe it's gay cheaters), calling us geeks, and more! ~sheesh~ I think someone needs to chill. CR
  20. #100 is 39.1 miles away. 10 have not been found which gives me 90%. Four days ago it would have been: 41.7 miles and 5 not found for 95%. 6 popped up over the past few days. CR
