  2. ok thanks for the fast replies now i have another question i found a free basic map of australia on the web and i loaded it on the GPS but now i want to get rid of it in favor of the metro guide map. i cant figure out how to remove the extra loaded map of australia. thanks
  3. i am going to australia and the only computer i will have acces to there is my brothers laptop. i want to load the maps onto the GPS from my Desktop now so i can get everything figured out but by loading the software onto my desktop first is it going to prevent me from using the software on his laptop to load different parts of the maps onto the GPSr. thanks
  4. You need to change this on the Interface page: Get to the Main Menu and select "Setup" From this screen, select "Interface" On this screen, under "Serial Data Format" make sure it reads "Garmin". (I'm basing these instructions on my 60CSx. Your GPSr may have different screens.) --Larry o yeah i forgot to mention the GPS is a Legend CX and i cant seem to find a interface screen under setup. but thanks for the help
  5. i am trying to transfer a map to my GPS and it says to change the interface in the GPS to garmin, it says to refer to the manual but it doesnt say anything how do i do this thanks
  6. i am going to australia and the only computer i will have acces to is my brothers laptop can i load the mapsource program on to my desktop and onto his laptop and still have the same features on each. o and my GPS came today and it is absolutly great the program is the trip and waypoint manager and the metro guide australia
  7. well after thinking about it more i decided that Explorist woulndt work for me anyways as i wanted the ability to just pop in some regular AA'a and not half to plug it into a charger. and crap like thay
  8. that really makes me mad i just bought the legend CX for like 240 plus shipping and i never thought to look at radio shack. now i wish i would have bought that and saved some dough
  9. well i finally had the courage to push that little button that says order, i ordered a Legend CX and a Metro guide Australia. Now i have a question . this is everything i need right? theres no special extra cable i need or anything like that is there. i just want to make sure becuase if i dont have everyth8ing ordered today it wont come in time. thanks for all the help so far
  10. so let me run this by you, i have decided that i am going to get the metroguide australia as im going to be there a month and even though my mum is from there i think a map that shows almost all the roads would be awesome. i also think that i am going to get the venture CX and then buy my own MicroSD card becuase i already have a Usb cable that i think will work. so is this everything i would need, and another question, when i get back from australia could i sell my Aussie map on ebay or would that be illegal. thanks i still may have more questions later but thanks a whole bunch for all the help.
  11. i cant seem to open the maps to look at them it only lets me load them to a GPS which i dont have yet. i want to see the maps to see if they will be good enough, so i know if i need to oreder the Mapsource metroguide australia maps. do you know how i can veiw them with out them being on a GPS. i have tried opening them with windows picture veiwer, and adobe but nothing seems to work, thanks for all your help
  12. the free maps reguire a mapsource program of anykind to work so i would have to buy the legend to get that software and then still buy a bigger Micro SD card, wow this is more confusing then i ever thought having a GPS would be
  13. yeah but the Venture also doesnt come with the mapsource and waypoint manager. do i need this. and would a 512 mb card be sufficient for a metroguide map thanks
  14. well i heard that the venture doesnt come with any software or a cable and that so i figured i would just buck up and buy the Legend, but im still looking for any advice
  15. i am going to australia on the 30th of june and i want to get my GPS before then. i have decided that i want the Legend CX and the Australia Metroguide. its a bit more than i wanted top spend but i figured get the best i could the first time. well now i am worrying that the 32 mb card wont be big enough to hold anything. i will have acces to a laptop BUT it would be inconvinient to be pluging into my brothers laptop all the time as we move in australia. so what do you think does anyone have any examples of how much i could put in a 32mb card. also i wanted to get the GPS from newegg and the map from offroute but was wondering if offroute is a good comapny. there really isnt a whole lot of room for error here as i am short on time so it needs to be reliable shipping and company what do ya think. sorry for all the noob questions ive posted lately
  16. wouldnt a GPS fall under the dont use you can screw up our radio signal catagory. i was wondering this becuase i thought it would be cool to try that also on my 16 hour flight. and wow 42000 feet that a long way maybe i dont want to know all the info when im flying
  17. OK ive been going back and forth on these decisions for the last couple days and finally decided to register with geocaching becuase i figured i would be back to download caches anyway. back on topic i want to use this GPS when i go to australia (looking at australia metro map), using it when i go hiking, hunting and mountain biking (topo ?), and maybe for road navigation ( not really necesary but would be cool) i was talking with a friend and he was going on about how nice an electric compass is and that kinda made me unsure of what i wanted. ive been looking at the Legend CX but it was a little more than i wanted to spend, so my questins are are there any other GPS's that you all would recomend is 8MB enough to hold any decent amount of maps is a color screen worth the extra money any other advice yall could offer would be great thanks and sorry for the long post, and if you were wondering i did do a lot of searching
