  1. Hunters have nothing to do with ODNR's policy of not allow traditional GeoCaches in Wildlife or State Preserve or State Parks areas. The reasons are that leaving anything laying around in those areas can be construed as littering. It is counter productive to the purpose of those areas, which is to preserve and protect unique or endangered wildlife and plant species in those areas. Not from people perhaps, but from the items that might be placed in the caches. Note that only State Preserves and Wildlife areas are off limits to traditional caches. The other locations are acceptable with proper permission for placing the cache. Lone Duck The Quack Cacher
  2. Go to the page of the cache in question and log it. When you log it, choose the Archive action and give the reason why. The Admin will read it and take action on it. I did archive a local cache that way last year (The big concrete hill) because it turned up missing. Lone Duck The Quack Cacher
  3. <test> test worked </test> The easy way to include a link in a message is to use the URL button in that Green Bar right nest to the word Message in the window. Note that the link you created has been formatted in UBBCode in the message window. Follow this link, and UBBCode will be explained to you. 4. I see nothing wrong with revisting a cache, and even trading or grabbing a Travel Bug if you wish. Leaving a note of the subsequent visit should be done if a trade was made, otherwise noting your visit is your discretion. I would also log it on the cache's web page. Lone Duck The Quack Cacher
  5. Once the signal starts bouncing around under tree cover, I start using the distance reading to home in on the cache. The direction arrow becomes useless, and takes a bit of time to correct tiself anyway. Using the distance reading is faster for me. Like someone eles suggested, take along a compass also. Align it with the direction arrow on the GPS unit and then go the distance indicated. That's how it's done when orienteering with a map and compass, and still works today. Lone Duck The Quack Cacher
  6. Ok, here's mine. It's a hieroglyph that I touched up and use at varoius forums. The quack cacher Lone Duck
  7. That hunter left a note that was out of line, and gave the impression that he thinks he has certain rights to the area. That note should be turned over to the local sheriff to deal with. Some people have been advocating disrupting the guy's hunt. That too is illegal. There are laws against intentionally interferring with a lawful hunt by either persuing the hunter, creating noise, or chasing his quary. Don't do that. The quack cacher Lone Duck
  8. This poll leaves out an important element for me. You see, I was born into and raised by the military. Yep, an Army Brat. Joined up when i was old enough. http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  9. I've learned early on that when my GPS unit gets real cold, the response time of the display slows down. And if it's REALLY cold (Like left out overnight) then the display may not show at all. http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  10. I think that cache is inappropiate. It can be viewed as an attempt to generate business. I would seek out a cache in a location like that only if I happened to be there. http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  11. .. olive drab women's panties next to the first cache I ever found which was in a city park. Probably an interesting story there! http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  12. This has probably been discussed before... I was wondering if there are any stats on an average number of visits for a cache? I realize that there are a lot of variables that would affect this, and there's probably a wide range as well. Are there any records kept anywhere on this? http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  13. Pocket Queries sounds good, but judging from going down the list here there seems to be problems with that. So I would rather just load up the web pages. I was hoping to get a reply from someone who administers this site so that I'll know if the cache pages are designed not to Synchronize. That way, I'll know if I'm wasting my time trying to make it work. I'm not will to spend the money on Pocket Queries just yet. While I've found some caches, my enthusiasm for this is not all that great just yet. If I can keep a listing of caches with me in my PDA then I might be hunting them up more when the opportunity arrises. http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  14. I'm having trouble getting the cache pages to upload properly to my pocketpc device. I can view them on the pocketpc while connected online, and I can also synchonize those links. However, the links disappear after the pocketpc is disconnect from the internet. I'm able to successfully synchronize other web pages, so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Is there something about te cache pages here that disables them when they are on a pda? http://www.netwalk.com/~jporter/picto2.gif
  15. You might want to consider MURS, the newer band with a 5 mile range compared to the 2 mile range of FMRS.
