  1. Hi CA, you should be able to still do it today. But sunlight?!?! I don't know, sure looks more like clouds and rain. But that can actually provide much better lighting conditions! Good luck! PF
  2. Ultra Rare 'PengoDaddy Signature Edition' Geocoin Ebay auction All the money raised will be given to the Make A Wish Foundation. We will match $1 for $1 (up to $250) whatever this geocoin sells for. PengoDaddy loves everything to do with aviation. (One of his hobbies includes flying radio controlled airplanes.) One of PengoDaddy's highlights was when the whole PengoFamily went to Quebec City in June 2006 to watch the international air show. PengoFamily had the pleasure of seeing the Blue Angels at this event. Sadly, on Saturday April 21st, 2007 there was a tragic accident at a Blue Angel's show and a pilot was killed: Lt. Cmdr. Kevin J. Davis died April 21 2007, when the F/A-18A he was piloting crashed during the final moments of an air show at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC. He served as the opposing solo pilot and flew the No. 6 jet for the team. He was in his second year with the squadron and it was his first year as a demonstration pilot. The family of Lt Cmdr Kevin J. Davis has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to the Make A Wish Foundation. This is what we will be doing with all the proceeds from this particular auction. In fact we will match it equally. The PengoDaddy Signature Edition Geocoin is based on the Blue Angel's color scheme. It is extremely rare as it is a 1 of 5 made. The geocoin is 1.75" in diameter and has an imitation hard enamel finish. Is is trackable on geocaching.com and has a custom icon. The starting price for this auction is $100 Cdn. We know that this sounds ambiticious and high to some but we feel that it is an appropriate minimum amount to donate to this wonderful organization (Make A Wish Foundation.) Since we are new to ebay and selling we couldn't have a reserve auction. For those of you who are not familiar with them here is some information taken from their website: Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. From our humble beginnings with one boy’s wish to be a police officer, we’ve evolved into an organization that grants a child’s wish in the U.S. every 41 minutes." A wish experience is frequently a source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments and a positive force that helps them overcome their obstacles. A wish experience is often more than a dream come true: It’s the catalyst that rekindles their belief in themselves and the promise of their future. Thank you for taking the time to look at our auction. Even if you cannot bid on it we appreciate prayers for the family of Lt Cmdr Kevin J. Davis and for the children that Make A Wish Foundation helps each and every day. Ebay Link: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Ultra-Rare-PengoFamilys...1QQcmdZViewItem

  4. Nouvelle France - by Compass and Astrolabe This is part of a map of 'Nouvelle France' made by Samuel de Champlain. Champlain was a famous explorer and map maker, the astrolabe and compass were tools in his repertoire for navigation and cartography. This astrolabe, (which now lives in the Canadian Museum of Civilization) was found in 1867 in Ontario by a 14 year old boy, named Edward Lee. The device is inscribed 'Paris, 1603'. Now there is no record in Champlain's diaries of having ever lost an astrolabe, but in 1613 Champlain did travel up the Ottawa river. To avoid the rapids, he chose a course through a number of small lakes near what is now the town of Cobden, Ontario. Champlain and his men had to portage over and under fallen logs at one particularly difficult point near Green Lake, now also known as Astrolabe Lake. It was here, according to many, that Champlain lost his astrolabe. If this is correct, the astrolabe remained where it had fallen for 254 years. This astrolabe is unique. It is the smallest of 35 mariner's astrolabes surviving from the early part of the seventeenth century and the only one from France. Nouvelle France later became known as Lower Canada, and now the Province of Quebec, and our home. As a technical note: This image was taken in black and white with a slight sepia tone and increased contrast through camera settings set before aquiring the image. An orange filter was used on the camera to get the deep darker tones in the glitter enamel on the Compass Rose. This is the 2 tone XLE.
