  1. The province where I live has had its own challenge, GC1EMAC - Nirakmit's Evil Challenge, but thankfully we are not limited to hides within the boundaries. The time limit has already been moved back once, which has made the possibilities a little bit better. I'm up to 65 of 81 combinations... which I think is pretty impressive considering I live in the middle of the prairies! Those terrain 4.5 caches are not easy to come by, and the T5s are only mildly easier! I've made lots of finds in Calgary and Edmonton (5-6 hour drive away) to get combinations I can't get here, and was so grateful for some of their trickier puzzles I could solve! Last summer I drove within a few miles of the only 5/4.5 in about 1000 km... not realizing it. Even had it in my GPSr, but decided that since the boyfriend was eager to get home from our vacation I wouldn't make him come with me to look for a cache we probably wouldn't find. Oh, if I could only go back and redo that day! Guess another road trip to Montana will be in order... Actually I was looking at this on the weekend and I could make a loop of it - grab a couple in North Dakota, drive across Montana to get that cache, then up to B.C. where there's a bunch near Crowsnest Pass that I could get. I'd just have to take a few days off around a long weekend... and climb some mountains, but whatever! So, yeah, I'm pretty obsessed with this, but can't go out all the time to get the combinations I need. That means I spend lots of time planning, and have got a little spreadsheet of my finds (all color coded by year found). Why yes, I do need a life!
  2. I'm usually a solo cacher, and I have to say it's definitely faster with another cacher! If you're driving having a separate driver and navigator means that you don't have to park and plan as long. Once you're actually searching, finds happen way faster too! I would say that 2 people does more than halve the time needed caching. And with four people, once you're at GZ searches usually take a minute or less, in my experience.
  3. I ran my query in the morning of 3/6/10, and loaded it into INATN and geocachingprofile.com without problem. I didn't put it into GSAK and I'm away from home, so I can't know if the logs are all correct. Just in case that helps anyone who might examine this technically... Maybe this thread should be moved to the bug forum?
  4. I've been to my share of hides where there are many natural piles of sticks which at first look like unnatural piles of sticks... all thanks to sticks washing down slopes, snagging on bushes, and stacking up there. Fun, fun!
  5. I'm wondering who else is planning on going? The boyfriend and I have our flights and hotel room booked and are planning on spending a few days in the area.
  6. ... or if you'd like it somewhere a little more white right now, I'd be willing to start it out for you! Just message me through my geocaching profile! Actually, I might want to send one to start out down your way too!
  7. It looks to me like that data could be flawed... just because the simple fact that the sample probably isnt indicative of the population. The people taking the poll were not randomly selected or anything... so you can't assume that the people whom answered the survey are anything like the people the people who geocache. But... If I had to guess, I would say that most cachers are above 30.... just for the simple fact that a good GPSr is expensive... and that money could go towards alcohol. Just sayin' I never claimed it was a scientific poll. I just thought the OP and others might be interested in seeing a larger sample size. Basically the sample would be very similar to the one in this thread - people who choose to identify their age and have an interest in knowing about other people.
  8. When you watch a cache you get notified of any log on that cache, including a Needs Maintenance.
  9. I cached in Cold Lake last June. It seems to me that there were several micro caches right in town that were probably winter friendly... I'm not sure how much snow they've had this year. I know we've had less than normal. Maybe try contacting Team G & V through the geocaching website. If you'd like to do some caches in the more treed, natural areas be sure to take a poking stick to feel for caches through the snow. It may not hurt to read previous logs too, because I remember one cache being found more than 10m away from where the GPS would have taken us.
  10. 35 years old here, as is my sometimes geocacher boyfriend. Here's some data from another poll, mentioned in a previous thread Age Percent Votes 12-20 8% 89 21-30 16% 185 31-40 25% 281 41-50 24% 276 51-60 15% 172 61-70 9% 100 71-80 2% 17 81-90 0% 5 > 90 0% 2 previous thread with link to poll
  11. UPDATE a) currently at 66/81 c) completed another of the Saskatchewan challenge caches - still have to go find it - 3 more to finish sometime... d) I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I agree with you. Personally, I find the line between a small and a regular sized cache a little more blurry.
  13. There is a menu list in the top right-hand corner and one of the items there is 'edit attributes.' Click that then you get to include up to 12 attributes (it only says 10, but there are spaces for 12 now after a page modification several months ago).
  14. Just off the top of my head I liked GCQCYN Pleasant View Cache. I've also enjoyed caching in the Cypress Hills and in the Qu'Appelle valley. But then for me it's more about where I am than what I find.
  15. I'd like to guess Feb. 25, since that's my birthday!
  16. There are a couple of caches in my province that have never (apparently) been searched for despite having been hidden seven and a half years ago: Legend III and SK Extreme 01 I would love to try the virtual by snowmobiling out on the lake!
  17. My current geocaching goals (which may or may not be completed in 2010): a) continue filling my D/T chart (currently at 65/81) create at least one Earthcache c) keep working on all the challenge caches I can! d) win the Winter Cache Game!
  18. definitely a mystery cache, since the coordinates are not available and require a bit of trickery to get
  19. Well, I'd say this was the most fun event I've been to: Watrous GPS Scavenger Hunt Check out the pictures in my log for our fun poses! then we drove around on muddy roads in a 4x4 and cached for the rest of the afternoon - good times with friends, what more can you ask for! I don't know if this really counts as embarrassing, but: don't lock your keys in the car when you're in the middle of nowhere Trying to make the person on the call line understand where I was was the worst part. Saskatchewan has grid roads, and I don't think they understood the concept. these are roads that occur every mile E and W, and every 2 miles N and S. they aren't named for the most part, but they are predictable. "the grid road coming south from the east side of Bradwell, go about 1.5 km and I'm on top of the hill." And when you say "I'm on top of the hill" to someone, they probably don't think of 'the hill' as 'the only hill' either. At least the tow truck driver was from a town not too far away...
  20. This isn't quite what the original poster was talking about, but there is a newer cacher in Edmonton who has the most entertaining logs and cache write ups! I've found 2 of his caches so far, but look forward to finding more the next time I'm out that way! Jbeck2's Misadventures of a Newbie Cacher...
  21. Hi Kyle! You'd probably get more responses if this was in the Canada forum. Great idea! I'd love to see something like this for Saskatchewan (which doesn't have counties, BTW, but does have rural municipalities).

    PAT

PAT is the French equivalent of FTF... premier/première à trouver.
  23. Here's a couple from the day I found the original stash tribute cache. The first is in the cache vicinity: English fine, Spanish I could see why, but Russian??? Was there a deal on extra languages on the sign or something?! Do many Russians travel to Oregon to dump trash? Next is a sign we drove by, then just had to pull over and take some pictures:
