  1. Each person will have a different answer based on their own preference. Personally I have certain CO's that are my goal. It doesnt seem to matter if its a 1.5/1.5 or a 3/4. I may find someone's 3/4 but die on a a 1.5/1.5 of my nightmare CO's. On a side note...at the beginning of the yr when everyone posts their goals I had 1 goal....to be able to beat so&so for a FTF. My 2nd goal was to find so&so's caches without going nuts. I did the 1st, Im still working on the 2nd.
  2. Cool, you're learning that we don't all cache the same way! I load a PQ into m y GPS and hit 'Next Nearest' and bounce from cache to cache. I don't pull up the cache listing on my Blackberry unless I have hunted the cache and cannot find it. Knowing that, maybe you might consider in your hides that many folks will be looking without having read the listing and place your hide either so that cachers don't need to know special considerations or hide in places such that special considerations are obvious. Or put something in the title like "Billybob's Privet Cache (Read Listing)" that tells me to read the listing before searching the privet hedge. I can appreciate that we dont all cache the same way. I dont use all of the new equipment. I do old school...look up things, make notes etc. However I do use the attributes as well as NOTE: on the cache page if something needs to be special noted. As far as Im concerned beyond that is up to the cacher to check. Dont get pissy with the CO & send nasty emails or log snotty comments when all of the needed info is on the cache page. (Not said here with an attitude just IMHO)
  3. I have a couple that are at memorials. I note in the cache page where it is so they dont forge around & disturb the area but go for the purpose of the memorial. From there it is the cachers choice if they want to go but at least they wont disturb the sanctity of the location.
  4. There was a cache in an area by me that had been disabled for 6 months, no notes, nothing. I logged a note asking whats up with this cache? Will it be replaced whatever? CO hadnt signed in during that time either. I sent not 1 but 3 emails to CO over about 6 wks. I finally contacted the reviewer explained the sit., he/she contacted the owner who said they were going to replace it in a few days. Another month went by & nothing was done. I contacted the reviewer again, not to be a PITA but ask how long will this be allowed to sit with no action or response. It was archived by reviewer. I now have a cache in its place. Just a note.....that CO still hasnt logged in & its been 7 months since her cache had been archived. SO.......drop a note to the reviewer or just post NA, then do what ya wanna do. Good luck.
  5. TY Eagle. I think I got it figured out. MW
  6. What do I need to NOT have checked to allow me to stay logged in? Im not real good on this stuff.
  7. I have my new pc. It has the windows7 which seems good. What I am wondering is now is there something I have to do to stayed signed in on gc.com. I have the box checked to remember me but when I close out the site & go back I have to re log in. Actually its that way with any of the sites I log in on. Is there a secret I forgot preventing me from staying logged in or is that part of the security from new windows. I do have cookies on here. thanks
  8. well I fixed the problem. I got a NEW pc. No problems ATT.
  9. I have IE8. Does that help?
  10. Well at least Im not the only one & now I know it isnt my PC doing stupid stuff brfore it dies. Guess Ill wait to see if it gets better or if maybe TXHooligan figures out what to do. LOL Good luck. MW
  11. I have windows IE. I thought it was ok before. I was able to go to other pages without the log out thing. I shut down the pc went bacl later & the samething. I will try the delete cookies thing, or have hubby do that as Im not so smart with this thing, & see if that does it. I had this happen once before a few weeks ago & some others posted up they did too. I couldnt find that thread when I started this one : > (. after a few days it was fine but now that it is mentioned it seems like there are times when windows updates I have crappy stuff on some things for awhile but dont know why or how that works. thanks all though for some ideas of what it might be or what I might try. The worst part was trying to submit new caches & not being able to because when I would hit submit it would come up not logged in. I made sure I was only on about 15-20 mins doing the write up. Oh well.
  12. Nothing is different from several days ago when it worked fine. Hubby doesnt cache so nothing there, settings havent been changed. Here's a specific sit. I log in & on the home page click on 'Go' by the home coords box. When it goes to the list of caches, I'm no longer logged in. I log in then click for next page, I'm no longer logged in. I give up. : > (
  13. ok this is really a PITA. Wont stay logged in on gc.com. Go to another page I have to relog then loose it when I go back to the page. Who is messing with the system????Has anyone looked into this????? Enough already!!!!!!
  14. Nothing was changed on my PC. I dont share it with anyone & no one, to the best of my knowledge, has my access info. The security on my system is all high tech & better than most, as it is the same as my husband uses where he works (a government facility). No FireFox on this PC & cookies has always been fine. Maybe it was just gremlins. As of this am some of the stuff is working so maybe my PC was just having a bad hair day. LOL it was sure a PITA though & I'm glad it didn't interrupt anything of vital importance. Don't ya just love modern technology????
  15. What the heck is going on with GC.Com? I have to log in, then when I do & I try to go anywhere it logs me out. I log in again & try to go to lets say profile......you're not logged in! I login & try to go to the cache listing......you're not logged in.....what is up with that????? It doesnt matter if I check remember me...same thing. I spent 1/2 hours filling out a cache report for a new cache, submitted it......you're not logged in. Try again.....same thing. Geez....................
  16. hoping to try this idea with the ball valve.
  17. As far as an outdated download is concerned -- we have done that (and learned from it). That is something that a cacher (should) learn about and take such into consideration. What you did, in effect is change your traditional into a virtual for that one person. But then, it's how you play the 'game'. Sorry about how this above is here but couldnt remember how to do the boxed in quote thing. Good point Gitchee & noted. I felt since the cachers obviously were there it was ok for me. I understand the learning aspect of outdated DL. I check my list of caches Im hunting the night before or sometimes morning of, if I have time, to be sure nothing has been changed but have still run into the occasional situation where the cache was moved but hadnt been noted by CO or coords were changed etc. My intention here was to just suggest CO's keep in mind when they place a cache that not everyone is able to reach it. ie: I am short & sometimes have difficulty reaching caches that are placed at what the CO feels is an acceptable height. (I also may not be back to that area) It most likely isnt mentioned cache requires the cacher needs to be at least XXX tall or will need a ladder. Rate the cache appropriately but in the end it is still at the CO's discretion. If that CO wants total POWER then dont except anything less than a signiture. Just my .02.
  18. I have a friend who is in a wheel chair with limited mobility but is a very active cacher. There have been caches that she has FOUND but wasnt able to get to. Does this denote a DNF because physically the cache couldnt be reached? I tend to think that many CO's, as well as cachers by the number of logs here, dont give thought to that challenged cacher, for lack of a better term, that would be disqualified just because they couldnt 'climb that tree, or get out on that rock out crop.' Aside from this being something a cache owner should keep in mind it is also up to the CO to determine how much power do they want to have over another. I have a cache that I had in a tree, down low where it could be reached even by a child that I just moved because the tree it was in was damaged by a storm. A cacher had DL the Coords prior to it being moved. In their log they stated that they got to GZ but the caches location seemed to be seriously damaged & where they felt the cache WAS had been broken off & so no cache was to be found. They took a DNF. I sent them an email explaining I had just moved it & for them to change their DNF to found. They obviously found where it WAS & their description was enough for me. CO's perogative. It's a game & as such enjoy. Do what you can live with but keep in mind that not everyone can 'climb that tree' but can still cache & find the containers.
  19. I have searched for caches that have had decoy containers that have been fun & some that have sucked so I can understand the 'I dont like them' thought. Also understand that there is always the chance of someone logging found, log not there regardless if they found the last stage or not. So what I have done is put something like 'Keep Looking', 'Getting closer', 'Almost there', inside the lid, on the bottom inside, & also put a laminated card with 'not the final' on it. I also try to have something unique for the final container which then when folks log there is most often a comment about it telling me they completed the journey. After all it is a game we play, & it is important that it is fun. Of course there is always someone who will find something to dislike about everything. On less complex caches I will add a hint on the cache page or 1st line instruction to READ ALL of the info. It doesnt matter there are still those that 'with a note' or 'NM' log cache is missing or no log etc. The problem was they werent told EXACTLY where it was & so they havent learned or they have forgotten how to look. Take the DNF, move on. When I see these logs I can almost bet that if they look for my other caches with parts or puzzles they will not get to the end but rather log, no log. Last thing.....I have a cache that is a mystery. Stage 1 - parking lot, which is the cache page coords Stage 2 - read clues on cache page to get to location w/ container that holds the coords for final stage Final - is a thermos fruit or soup container. The lid has a screw top with a separate space for a folding spoon. OK? That spoon space is just perfect for the log to keep it separate. So on the inside of the cap is a permaink note: LOG INSIDE THIS CAP! You cant believe how many folks log we found the cache but there is no log so we left a piece of paper, or needs a new log, log is missing. A CO cant produce a cache that is totally FOOL proof so.......go out & enjoy. We are lucky there are so many different caches.
  20. Eye of Newt - Traditional Toe of Frog - Multi Encanted Forest - Mystery
  21. Last wk my partner & I were out & she found that 'Flower', a skunk, had made the cubby its home. It goes without saying, but I will say it anyhow, she just left everything alone & backed away. Good thing too because it would have been a heck of a walk home for her LOL
  22. I have a cache, that is actually part of a series I'm doing, that will be a night cache. The story line has to do with different type of Fae (fairies) in a specific group. I have set it up so that as you go along you will encounter containers, decoys if you will, that correlates to 1 of the fairy of this group. The container also has swag associated with that character (Leprechaun - gold coins) no log but a note stating you aren't there yet. It is a little extra work but it also helps the cacher know they are on the right track. The final cache will then have its own fairy swag & a log. I have done similar set ups connected to other topics: ie Macbeth's Act IV Scene I with the three ugly witches verse Double, double, toil & trouble...using critters such as Newt, Frog & Bats as multi's, all with said decoy containers. I have never gotten any bad logs. The cachers loved them & had some great stories along with their searches so go for it with the decoy container but perhaps with a bit of thought you can work it into the cache theme for more excitement. Good luck.
  23. This is what I like about coming here. Great new ideas. I like the ball valve setup. Now I have a question! Lets say you dont want to anchor it to an external weight....but rather put a weighted material inside then suspend just below water level from a pylon etc....what would be best used, for in salt water that freezes in winter, that will last the longest with minimal deterioration?
  24. I started caching alone. It was great to have quiet time after a long shift in an ambulance with other peoples problems. Then I decided it probably wasnt such a good idea to be strolling in some of the out of the way places I was at alone so I introduced my neighbor to caching. Best thing I ever did. We take turns driving, although she is a terrible navigator, but I now direct. We have totally different ways of tracking, but usually end up at the same location soon. The extra eyes are always good as we have each found the cache after the other has already looked 'there' & didnt. I benefit the most as there as some places I wont go in because of the slither factor & she is insane & will go anywhere. But I think the best part is I can be 'me' & do some stupid stuff that many would think is ridiculous. It's just a blast & we dont stop laughing the entire time. We can be 'kids' again & it's OK. As a matter of fact it is encouraged. I look forward to every time we go out.
