  1. For lack of a better place to address this......when I log in to Nevada site it just lists me as a guest. I tried to resolve this last fall & got no where & it still does the same thing. I registered, but for some reason it didnt take. Now the only way to re register is with a different name, password & email. Who has the power to fix this???? TY Mother Wolf
  2. Is it me or is there still a major glitch with the smileys on the maps disappearing? It really is getting to be a PITA. I have to then refreshes & basically start over what I'm doing. It's real nice that there are new things around that have been added to both gc.com & here on the forums but can someone please, please, please fix the stuff we already have that doesnt work all the time?
  3. 1 of the things I'm not crazy about is the change with the red arrow indicated my caches. It stood out nice & bold. Now with he sun & a smiley being the same color it just blend.
  4. I don't much care for the drab greys. Maybe something with a bit of color. Perhaps the soft minty green that is used for the quote box. As to any of the other uses I just stopped by so I havent seen what else is new. It looks a bit busier though than before & somewhat 'chunky'. Not quite a warm fuzzy feeling. Hmmmm......will have to see how it goes after a bit. Thanks to those who put in the work though to try to make things better. Just because I'm not too crazy about it so far doesnt mean I dont appreciate your efforts.
  5. you can actually just refresh & they come back but they will have the numbers by them. If you dont want them click off the box. It is a bit better than logging out /in again. Just a thought.
  6. Is it so much effort to add attributes? No it isnt mandatory but it does help in many cases & is just 1 of those things that makes a person a more considerate CO, IMHO. Leave the surprises for the hunt & finding of the cache.
  7. Here too but when I refresh it then also puts the numbers by them so I have to also uncheck that box. Maybe tomorrows update will fix that without adding more gliches in its place.
  8. Great snaps guy. It is beautiful! They dont get stuff like that here in Eastern Md. (except last yr but that was a freak winter) although being a Chicago gal I loved it.
  9. Although it was a freak winter last yr, here in Md with over 4 ft of snow in some areas in under a wk between the 1st dump of 2+ft & the balance over the next several days I found a couple of caches. Just jumped out of the truck between plowings & made the grab, after climbing over the snow hills. The snow is just a challenge but it can be great if someone else is also out & got there before you, geo geotrail.
  10. Hows caching in Buffalo today. Looks like you guys are having an early White Christmas. Send some of that white stuff down Md way will ya?
  11. Geocaching involves people from all walks of life. Some of us are more comfortable with the written word than others, and I know there are cachers out there who keep their logs short because they're self-conscious about spelling and/or grammar. Some people just lean towards brevity by nature. Sometimes, a curt log is better than an antagonistic log. There are lots of valid reasons to write short logs. I don't think the site should be redesigned to facilitate bulk logs. There are still lots of geocachers writing great logs, and there are still lots of geocachers who appreciate them. I think praising people for the good logs is ultimately more productive than admonishing them for the bad ones. When I get a great log I always send the cacher a note of thanks for the cool log. It only takes a few mins & it makes for great friendships.
  12. Hey wait a minute...at least the caches on the ocean floor are logable. The ISS cache isnt. Come on now be nice. Thats what nice about caching...different things for different peoples interests.
  13. The hammer is for getting to the log if it's in a puzzle box. I LOVE this answer ROFL
  14. I get logs like :>) or :>( no note nothing. I don't think that is going to change. Some folks will take the time to write a nice note, maybe include a story about the venture or an update on cache condition & others will do what they always do...as little as possible...all regardless how many caches any 1 person may find. It is what it is. Some caches are worth a story some arent. After all it is tough to come up with anything real exciting about the LPC or the GR mag key box. I have come across 2 GR caches that were out of the normal mag key box. 1 was a jumbo lago piece the other was an army guy. So at least for those 2 I was able to comment on glad to have found something a little different on the normal GR cache.
  15. vote cast....good entries, difficult to choose just 1. Thanks for the chance to participate.
  16. Same problem here. Seems like every time the system is down for upgrade or work new bugs pop up after wards. This has occred since the latest down time. : > ( Also when you refresh it then automatically puts a check in the box to include numbers next to the icon on the map. Hope this is cleared up soon as it is a bit of a PITA.
  17. I know it goes with being a CO but it is frustrating none the less when your cache is moved because the finder thought..........whatever. All of the above things have happened at 1 time or another to my caches. I have 1 cache that a cacher moved. Then the next finder had difficulty find it but when they replaced it they moved it again because it didnt match their coords. I still havent found it & I own it. I know cachers think they are helping but it would be a BIGGER help if you just put it back where you found it then sent a set of coords to the CO. Here is another frustration. NOT CLOSING THE CACHE PROPERLY. How tough is this to do? Ok maybe there are times if the container is a cheezy container or its broken etc but I have several AMMO Cans. They hold up all of the world under WAR conditions & are still watertight. What is the problem. I have to go replace the contents in a LARGE Ammo can because the cacher didnt close it. It has the latch etc so take an extra minute & close it right. It is in the middle of the woods so stealth isnt even needed. Geezzzzzz! Lazy cachers are part of what you deal with as a CO.
  18. Tell that to all the people who've been mauled or killed by them. While you're right about the need to make noise in big bear country, and the need to respect their space and don't do stupid things, the fact is that there are many incidents of people being attacked and killed by bears. Humans, who are generally considered to be the most put together species, vary widely in their behaviors and reactions, so why would bears be any different? There have been cases where bears actively hunted humans for food, so the idea that they'll run away if given the chance doesn't hold true all the time. Because there is a chance of a very sad encounter with a bear, appropriate action needs to be taken any time they're around. Telling people not to worry about bears is dangerous. Bears are very scary critters, and while it would be exciting to see one in the wild, seeing one would also mean you're in their world. Their world is survival, and that means getting whatever calories they can. Why people think animals should be naturally afraid of humans is beyond me: we smell like food, we taste like food, and a lot of us don't have much (or any) way to protect ourselves. I do agree about the guns, though. From reading many, many accounts of bear encounters, and a lot of research, it would appear that pepper spray is definitely the best defense. Even if you're able to fatally shoot a bear, he's not going to die immediately, and chances are good he'll take you out too. Though there are things in nature that can ruin your day/life, I don't let the worry of mountain lions or black bears stop me from enjoying the great out doors with my kids. I stay aware of what's going on, have tools to use should I need them, and go out and have fun. I've been doing this for over 40 years now, and it's working pretty well! Even if the chance of an attack from a bear is remote if you saw The Early Show this morning you may have seen the bit on the man in Belleview, Washington, not far outside of Seattle, who was attacked outside of his home. Now I dont live in the woods but I am guessing that if this happens so near a families home there is a strong possibility it can happen IN the woods so I wouldnt discount the importance of vigilance when in the woods. It could mean the difference between life or death. I also wouldnt play down how aware of your surroundings we need to be regardless of where we are caching.
  19. I love this little guy. What a great snap.
  20. I think my frustration was not realizing that there were actually 'great' containers made to look like a stick or mushrooms or an electrical outlet or a nut & bolt. Not to mention the cache containers that some folks made that were really great & blended. Now I love them. They are always a pleasure to find rather than just the 'look at the bottom of the post, its a ...... or heres a spoiler picture.' Another frustration was not knowing the CO, which after awhile you figure out how they think & that in itself, often, is a clue what to look for.
  21. We got hit by a bot here on the east coast, from Md to Maine, this week. Although it was really disturbing when I saw the logs, which was actually a link to another website, I was glad the only hassle was deleting the logs. I have a few caches right close to my house so when I went out just to be sure there was no problem I checked them & they were fine. SO the PITA remained the fake logs. Not the worst thing in the world for sure. The main concern was that we HAVE had a problem with someone trashing about 75% of the area caches so it did raise the concern flag at 1st. All is well now it seems.
  22. I put my swag in a freezer zip lock baggie. I also put the log in its own baggie. I get the baggies for the logs at any pharmacy. They are actually different size pill bags & are the thickness of the freezer bags which helps them last longer. It has helped to keep the stuff dryer if the container collects moisture.
  23. How funny how cool. Thanks for sharing a great story & 15mins of suspense & laughs.
  24. Everyone has different likes to find ideas. I like your idea of putting it on a card or in a baggie with its description. I love to find pretty rocks or special stones. When I started placing caches I had a huge container of colored polished glass pieces ( like for in fish tanks or glass flower vases) I put some in my caches. The story that went with them was that they were dragons tears. Since then many cachers that have come to know me always ask me if I have any dragon tears. I usually also carried some in my pocket to give to the kids at our events along with a little story of how they came from the dragons that were disappearing. They had cried & the tears turned to crystal so hold them tight & keep them safe because they may have magic in them. Even the adults enjoyed the stories. I have done a similar thing with little fairy items. Spun thread (bright colors & gold & silver) & shiney bobbles that were left by the Fae (fairies) as special trinkets. It is a way to cheer up the kids, have something a bit different in the cache without spending a lot of $$$, & re cycle many otherwise trash bound items. So go for it. Someone out there will kie it, someone will think its junk. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (cacher) : > )
