  1. In Vegas's defense. I used to absolutely hate going there until I started caching. I live 400 miles away and always avoided it as much as possible (work and family forces me there from time to time). Along with many others, I really hate the underworld sleaze factor of the strip. Anyhoo, Vegas is one of the funnest caching areas I've been to. In 20 minutes (ok maybe 30-40 depending on traffic) from the airport you can be up in the mountians or out in the desert, away from the city. It's great, and actually the urban caching is pretty good too. There are actually quite a few interesting urban ammo can's which is rare anywhere in an urban setting. Just avoid it from June-Sept. The heat is miserable! I'd have to say Lake Tahoe is my other favorite area to cache but you still have another month or so until the snow melts!
  2. If it's just mainly your personal stats your interested in. Itsnotaboutthenumbers.com is a good one! Shows you more personal stats than you ever wanted to know. I find the county maps cool.
  3. If anybody is passing through Reno, Nevada on the Thursday before GWVI, be sure to stop on by this event!!!
  4. I thought I'd bump this thread. Also a bunch of cachers are meeting up for a Geocachers Anon. (Geonon-Reno911 chapter) meeting at 7pm tonight at Great Basin Brewery on Victorian Ave in Sparks. This hasn't been posted as a formal event but a bunch of us are going to be there. If your in the Reno/Sparks area, stop by!
  5. You must have inflatables? I love the jousting pit, how cool! Will these be at GWVI???
  6. I would contend that it is your unfamiliarity with guns is what scares you, not us Americans. Understanding the hard facts of concealed weapon carry and then researching the history of why this right was written into our constitution in the first place will help you immensely in this regard. Perhaps you might even consider the day when your country needs some real help and what country will proudly be there by your side faster than you would ever imagine they could be. What if we showed up to protect you with sticks? Along this journey you may even learn to appreciate us a little more. We promise to put a little effort into doing the same. It's ok, I don't like guns either. I was raised around them, my husband has them, the boys go shooting...good for them. Although that Hello Kitty AR-15. Almost makes me like Hello Kitty! So far we've been lucky and haven't felt threatened on the trail. I did trip over a homeless man sleeping while night caching once. We were with a large group. I'm pretty sure we scared him more than he scared us!
  7. Please don't throw stuff at me if this has been brought up before . Yesterday I scored a cache and it was the first time I had seen this. On the cache page there is this link I thought it was pretty cool. On the other hand, I think an overall rating system for each cache would cause a lot of grief. There are too many trolls, micro haters, and some animocity between certain cachers out there where I think it would create more problems than it's worth.
  8. Cool, I will watch it! We have a couple of hours before it comes on here though!
  9. Since the NGA posted oodles of stuff! Here it goes from the North! Again we are the Great Basin Eastern Sierra Geocachers, the OLDEST geocaching organization in Nevada. We've held a 4x4 Rally every year for the last four years. See herefor the link. Here are some photos from last years rally: They are currently working on the route for the '08 rally. Here are some other photo's of the GBES and friends!
  10. I read somewhere (I think in the GWVI forums) that there were supposedly 70+ teenagers expected. I think Ri..um I mean Signal ought to stay pretty entertained!
  11. Yay NGA! , we have two groups in Nevada. We have GBES Great Basin Eastern Sierra Geocachers which is primarily Northern Nevada (Reno). Just in the past few weeks we've gotten an actual forum together (Woooot Doodad!!! ) and then there is the NGA which is primarily Southern Nevada (Las Vegas) We all are generally members of both and like to razz each other on which end of the state is better. But we all know the Northies have it edited for my horrific spelling skills
  12. No debate here. Add me to the "Bring back virtuals" bandwagon, Waymarking just doesn't do it! Yeah, some virtuals we have visited have sucked, but most of the ones we've been to have been really cool! We really liked this one, unless you are from the area you would never know this was there.
  13. I often wondered about this too? I would guess the contest rules would have to vary so drastically from country to country. I think they have enough of a problem dealing with individual state rules etc. (I know in other contests some states are even excluded due to local laws regarding gambling, age restrictions, etc.) For the record I did send a Red Jeep over to the UK before the contest was over On another note, I thought the Diabetes TB's were available to everyone? A good friend of mine (NVGreenGecko) attended the WWFM in London and scored one of the Diabetes coins over there?
  14. Hey, stealing copper must be the big excuse for cops checking out a situation. We had this happen to us recently! Once he saw three middle aged women and we described what we were doing, he was very nice. However, he wouldn't let us take our picture with him I thought for sure the cache would be gone soon after but its still there. Here is the link to the log. It was funny stuff!
  15. I've kind of avoided the outside world this weekend! (It's going to be a long 4 months of school!) I guess I should check my messages on my cell phone more often! Glad you found it!
  16. What a freak! I can't wait for him to get back here so I can slap him! LOL!, Who the H*** misses Led Zepplin when the opportunity is right in your hands, GAAAHHHHHHHH! Ok, I'm done now. Teri, first off it is just a TV show. Jack and Locke aren't any smarter than Sayid or Sawyer (Sayid and Sawyer just have better abs ). You need to get out of Carson. I believe the Wal-Mart warehouse starts at $14 and Amazon pays a lot better than $8! Have you tried the Starbucks plant? I've heard they pay decent too! I hope you've put in more applications than just IGT? I thought you wanted to get out of gaming?
  17. I am so glad to hear you guys were not hit with the flood! Well get back on those feet! When you do, let us know, we can probably organize another Ferntucky/Fallabama run!
  18. Thanks for the load! Great way to spend my lunch! I checked our PBS schedule and it's not coming on anytime soon
  19. Well here is some information that I got from a friend at work, I hope this helps you out: I have not seen that brand specifically. The way to research brands is through the Depart of Ag. by state. If it is a registered brand then it will be on file in the state. It is to bad that there is not a national brand registry. The link to the NV site is http://agri.state.nv.us/index_LivestockID_BrandNews.htm When you are going to register a brand it is researched that you are not using someone else’s brand – in order to preserve the uniqueness of the identification mark. The website below seems to give you links to registered brands Links to find out about your brand To help in your search for information relating to state brands and brand laws, we provide the following links to state departments of agriculture and other relevant agencies. http://www.cowboyshowcase.com/brands.htm#howto Do you have any idea where this horse was born? It would give you a state to start with. Hope this helps…
  20. The NGA has been broken down most of the night
  21. I actually work with a horse breeder, I will find out tomorrow if she recognizes it.
  22. Honestly this sounds like a personal problem, and not one of your safety but one of... I don't know... your feelings that everyone is looking at you a judging you. If you're over the age of 25 I'm surprised that you don't realize by now that nobody really cares enough to even notice you unless you look like you're messing with their property or their person. I don't think we can help you regarding this. We can give you advice to help you make yourself safer but not to overcome self-defeating psychological obstacles. A bit harsh don't you think?? Also being a female cacher, I have cached alone on several occasions, one cache I did back out of on my first try was in a heavily populated park, however GZ was near some picnic tables with a bunch of gang bangery looking young men sitting on them. I'm sorry, but there was no way that I was going anywhere near them. I doubt physically they would've have done anything to me but I'm sure there would have been some verbal taunting. (I'm just not one to say something back, especially alone and unarmed and being a general wuss anyways!) Also they would have gone to the cache site area once I'd left to see what was there and probably have muggled it. Another situation was in another park that is full of homeless people, I waited until we had a group for that one also. But on the other hand I've found quite a few on my own and the longer you do it, the less self concious you become. Just do the common sense thing. Go with your gut (if it doesn't feel right, go another day) and pay attention to your surroundings.
