  1. Sign me up! (As a spectator of course!)
  2. I just ran the directions to a local cache to see what it would do, just like Garmin, it's sends you the less practical way but it does get you there! I like the new look, its nice to see a little change every now and then. The topo maps on "view maps" are cool!
  3. Today, NevadaWolf and myself decided to attack some local urban hides. We were sitting in front of a typical Lampost Hide in front of a typical Red Robin Restaraunt. As we sat in the airconditioned bliss of the cachemobile waiting for lunching muggles to walk by, we waited.........I looked out my rearview mirror and noticed they hadn't walked past, they were all staring at my TB sticker on my cachemobile! So NevadaWolf finally jumps out and the group were geocachers! We all signed the lampost log then went on our way. This made this lampost hide pretty cool!
  4. I am currently working on the Nevada Delorme challenge, I've been working on it here and there for the last year (as Nevada is a big state and in some places gas is $5 a gallon as most of it is desolate). Delorme books do change and I believe in the Nevada case, you can use the book "you have" we also have a page that is mostly part of the Nevada Test Range (no civilians are allowed) with a road that just barely nicks the top of the page. I'm not positive but I think there is a cache on that section of road that has been allowed. (Just an example of how the rules can be different state by state) As far as what you win. In our case the cache owner puts on an event about twice a year and you get a nice gas can and a cool embroidered keychain. And you get to see all of your state.
  5. Black Rock City, NV is another cool one on Google Earth. Since it only exists for a week out of the year. My dad installed a bunch of phone line out there (Area 51) in the late 60's early 70's. He still doesn't talk about it
  6. You watch movies and think.....hmmmm, I bet there is a cache there, or what a great place for a cache! My recent fav, you see a crime scene on the local news and blurt out during dinner "There's a cache there!" Oh and fishing vests are the bomb for caching!
  7. My best DNF story actually happened about 500' away from the above mentioned cache that has since been archived. For those visiting the area, really, this area is not that bad!
  8. Couldn't have said it better! I absolutely LOVE being in small towns that I've driven through for years and never used to stop. If you're ever on Hwy 95 between Reno and Las Vegas... for the average muggle it is a long boring 7 hour stretch of desert. (for many years I looked at it that way) Thanks to GC.com, we've discovered that there is so much to see along that route it's rediculous! It makes the drive oh so much better! And the friends I've made along the way have been a pretty cool addition!
  9. Ha! I am guilty of "coin drops" on event pages. Actually I wasn't aware you could delete your log from a cache page until this very conversation. I guess I've really had no reason to try it? Most of our events aren't that large so I guess it doesn't bother me if people leave notes. I could see where it could get out of hand if you had a large event and needed a head count though
  10. I draw the line at the cheese curds. Fries and Gravy, now that's awesome! We used to live in Canada (Prince Albert, SK) in the early 90's and still visit the inlaws up there frequently. We usually cross at Sweetgrass MT. People in Sweetgrass are BORED and will do anything to stir up some exitement. I think a lot of it depends on where you need to cross and like someone else mentioned, the mood of the customs agent. We have learned on both sides, when asked a question, answer with "yes" or "no" answers only, if you can manage it. Overall we have had a lot more hassles coming back into the US. For some reason if I am driving, we always get called in and they do a car search, so Mr.Lost doesn't let me drive across the border anymore Mr. Lost is a Canadian citizen with a US Green Card (he's had it for 15 years!). Everytime we come back, we have to give a half hour explaination of the Green Card and why he lives in Nevada (people that live a few states away from Nevada, don't think that people actually live there??) He's had a hard time not answering with a smartass remarks such as "I'm a stripper" or "I'm a prostitute" . As far as felonies go. Big Brother knows all!, if they run a check on you, they will find out. On the DUI front. My brother in law who lives in Canada got one about 5 years ago. I think after 3 years he went to court for an appeal and had to pay some sort of fee. I'm not sure what all is involved but he can now cross the border again. If you have a passport, it is advisable to take it. It seems to speed things up.
  11. I'm so not original when it comes to this stuff but I bought a bumper sticker that says "Indiana Jones would have been a geocacher!" Its currently living on my cubicle wall at work. There are also some cachers in our area that are pretty religious, I totally have nothing wrong with that, just don't push it on me and quit cramming those million dollar bills into micro caches!(you know who you are ) anyhoo, they came up with a group name of Team Geosus. I just thought that was hysterical! At least they have a sense of humor!
  12. I'm not a LEO but I've had several run in's with them while geocaching and have even started a collection of photos in front of LEO vehicles! Here is my collection of photos I'm starting! Every single one of them thought what we were doing was pretty cool (except for one) once we explained what we were up to. The first time we were stopped was about 8 oclock at night. The officer thought we were stealing copper from the nearby RV dealership. I can totally understand the suspicion of it, being dark and there are 3 people crouched around a box in the dark. He was totally cool and seemed interested in it once we explained it. The second and third times were during Geowoodstock. The first one was from the actual town of Wheatland, first he looked like he was 12 (ok, he was probably 24 but he really looked like he was 12!) He pulls off and asks what we were up to. Well we were taking pictures of a really nice sunset before we found the cache. We explained to, and showed him the cache, explained GWVI, ok this event more than doubled the population of Wheatland, CA??. You would think the police would have known about it?? He was a little bit cocky but I think because we were 3 middle aged women his 'tude went down a little. He drove away seemingly a little irritated he had nothing to bother us with. The third time was the day after GWVI in Yuba County. He was awesome! There was a group of about 6 of us. We walked by as he was filling out his daily paperwork and he said it before we could say anything "You guys must be geocachers?" This was the moment I decided to start a collection of myself with cop cars! He even took the picture for me! LOL!
  13. We have a local cacher that has come up with a whole series called Cache and a Movie, here are some examples: Cache and a Movie #1 Cache and a movie #2 Cache and a movie #3 She's created 8 of them. All are good movies. I have a horrible habit of getting all the clues, then losing my results. That, and I'm lazy and hate puzzle caches!
  14. I don't know of any other cachers in Ely. Like Ambrosia mentioned, I'd check out other people that have placed caches in the area. Most cachers absolutely don't mind you shooting them an email with questions. I'd also keep an eye out for events in the general area. I know Ely is out there but keep a look out for maybe a weekend excursion to a SLC or even a St.George event. It's a great way to meet people and more about geocaching and most are more than willing to give a lending hand.
  15. I've got a photo of myself standing in front of that sign. That one cracked me up! And there's a cache right there as well! DCC That sign was great!
  16. Uck! This thread is making me itch just reading it! The ticks were out in full force in Northern California last weekend. I actually saw 2 and heard stories about several others.(ticks are my huge phobia, I'd rather encounter spiders and snakes ANY DAY!) I was using good old back woods Off, it seemed to work ok for me! I'm just glad I'm from a place that they don't generally live!
  17. We were at most of those caches after the event we didn't see anything That would be too cool if someone has it and posts!
  18. Hey everybody! Its that time of year again for the 5th annual GBES Geocaching & Navigational Rally This year the rally is based out of Reno and we are taking some of it to the forests. The route is absolutely beautiful! It's taking place Friday June 13th and Saturday June 14th. Here is the direct link for more information. Hope to see you there!
  19. I have done the same, since I was there, did participate, therefore I did attend. I'm going to log it. But logging one's own hides. I don't get the point?
  20. I am so looking for you! Those are cool! Hopefully I will have my pathtags by then!
  21. Sadly since I've been doing this the furthest I've been is only 382.4 miles away from home It's just made me realize that I really need a vacation! I haven't left Nevada/California in over two years! (I live roughly 10 miles from the CA border so it isn't a big deal) ....and my furthest cache is still in the same state I live in . I'm with ya Nekom, we need to get out more!
  22. Mrs Lost- Engineering Tech for the worlds largest manufacturers of slot machines. (Because everybody needs to gamble!) Mr. Lost- Gave up Warehouse Relocation Specializing because the price of fuel got to out of hand (Looks at that $4 a gallon for diesel today with a sigh of relief he doesn't have to pay for it anymore!). Sold the relocator to work for someone else and is now Proffesional Poop/Grease/Sand/Oil Relocation Specialist but is now home every night which makes Mrs. Lost very happy!
  23. We just sold our pop-up and bought a regular trailer , it's only an 18'er but this one has a bathroom and a real sized fridge!!Hootsies, I'd think twice on buying a pop-up. We only had ours for two years. And we wished we'd bought a conventional trailer from the day we bought that thing! Lake Tahoe is a great place to cache, tons of caches and camping to be had and one of the most beautiful places on earth! I've even had one of my record days up there!
  24. I'm so glad this is on a different weekend than the Rally! this year. We should be able to make at least one day of this!!!
