  1. I only hosted one event on this website many years ago (and a more recent one on another website, that will probably become annual), but heck yes, I posted an attended log for them. There are a surprising number of people against it here in the forums every time it comes up, but I'd say most hosts do it, and the Geocaching Police aren't going to come take you away. With an event, there are no "hidden" properties. A lot of freakin work goes into events, not to mention several dollars from my pockets over the years. It's a social gathering, you were there. Period. I don't get why people get upset claiming your own events.
  2. Thanks for the info guys! Hey John, I think we were planning on doing mostly urban caching. Jamie has some mobility issues. I'm hoping she'll be feeling better by then. I don't know if we can get Mr.Lost into it. We'll have our truck with us, he might be up for some 4X4 caching. I'll have to put the bug in his ear. He's more likely to cache if we aren't in our area. We'll be heading back north on NYE, so if they have the event a day or so before that would work out! Looking forward to it and seeing you guys!
  3. I've found a couple of caches that I've adopted from other people, but found them before I adopted them. Oh yes Swine Flew, I've had a couple that ended up far, far from where they were placed. I think the worst one, was about 200' from original placement. Grrrr! I've never claimed a "found" on my own cache, however I do claim "attended" on my own events.
  4. Just now getting back into it. I was burnt out from doing the same 100 mile radius of which I live. ...and there generally isn't much past the 100 miles but a lot of vacant desert with a few caches here and there. I've stayed relatively "out of the game" for about a year and a half, got involved with a LOT of other things. I just ran a new query. Lot's of new caches. I'm just afraid the spark won't last long as a lot of these new caches are in places I've already been....Ah to be independantly wealthy and travel the world! LOL
  5. Anything in the planning stages for the week between Xmas and New Years? We will be visiting San Diego that week . Hobbithiker & GrumpyBear (also from Reno) are going to be down there at the same time. We are planning to meet up for a day of caching. If anyone from the area is interested in showing us around, that would be awesome! On that note, I have cached with John (of Jahoadi & John fame) in the past....I'm not sure we could keep up!
  6. Still blows me away, even the picture on Channel 8's snippet shows nothing of where it says "explosive" or anything else. Let's add more irony, here's a picture of me at GZ (cache is directly behind me) explaining geocaching to someone in the sheriff's dept back in .07 REALLY PEOPLE!!
  7. Our's doesn't even live in the country! How are the donations going to see if the country he now calls home will keep him? It's the gubbermint keeping him there.
  8. Our's doesn't even live in the country!
  9. Wendy's owned them at one time, not sure if they still do? Anyhoo, none in the west I'm not a big fan of donuts but Timbits are my weakness! You're right, it is kind of a stupid thread, it just fries me on how overly sensitive and politically correct most of our country has become. Before the flame throwers come out...no, I am not condoning public displays.
  10. Ooooh yet another one at a house of ill repute Line em up! ....sorry I'll behave now.
  11. Yeah, they are way tooo sweet! bleh! I wish Timmy's would invade the US. Wendy's owns them, why don't we have them??? There is a cache near the one in Prince Albert, SK! lol! ....staying on topic!
  12. I guess the events on July 16, 1944 in Jornada del Muerto don't count. +1 Our Krispy Kreme went under about 3 years ago, and if memory serves, there was a cache there!....hrrmmm, find a cache in a Krispy Kreme/WallyWorld/7-11 parking lot or behind a Bunny Ranch sign....you know...the one you've always wanted to stop at for a photo op but had no other reason to until you started caching? At least you'll remember the ranch cache!
  13. That would be southern Nevada....on both accounts. We don't claim them.
  14. I found the archived Gymnastic's cache. Great story on a kid's perspective!
  15. I'm blown away (no pun intended) on how bent out people on these forums are regarding adult stores. Seriously? I live in a state (yes a STATE in the USA)where brothels are legal . We even have caches near 'em. Read the logs, no one seems offended. Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty is one example, there used to be one outside of Fallon called Gymnastics...or something like it. I think it's since been archived, the story behind it was hilarious. I'll have to find my old log. Geesh people, lighten up!
  16. LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Sometimes we cache in a large group, usually the first person that takes out the log signs everybody in our group in, but we are all physically there. Maybe this is happening more often than not?
  17. If you come through Vegas and take 95 up to Reno, there are a load of great caches! Tonopah has a ton of quickies (we had an event there a couple of years ago a ton of caches were placed) also plan to spend a little bit of time in Hawthorne, the weapons depot is there and there are quite a few caches in a long non existant military town next to Hawthorne (Babbitt), the streets and trees are still there and nothing else. The caches have some great history.
  18. Nice!! I haven't run across any in a while, but I have started a collection of pictures while caching. None of them wanted to be "in" the picture but they were more than happy to take my picture of me and the car with my GPS after explaining WTH I was doing. LOL! The Wheatland cop was a moron, it was during GWVI and he had no idea there was an event that tripled the population of his town?? The Yuba sherriff on the other hand was well aware of GW and was super cool. Here's some of them:
  19. The Tonopah event was a lot of fun! An Elko one would be cool, I'm thinking we could most likely make it (if it were on a Friday night or Saturday).
  20. You guys are too funny! You wouldn't believe how much John misses Fallon and Reno. He's hating life as a ship's company sailor right now. I actually think you all spoiled him up there...good caches, beautiful scenery, great friends, an "easy" job, weekends free to go geocaching, no honey do lists. Now he's in San Diego and other than some terrific people and great friends he's back to reality! John says Hello! We'll be back to visit and maybe even place some caches for you....I hear the approver is a push-over Have Fun! JnJ We do miss both of you!!!
  21. I've attempted to renew my membership 3 times also, have never recieved a reciept nor has my premium membership been extended to 2010. Hrmmm, need to check my credit card statement this evening.
  22. I'm counting down the days too! Too cool that people from Washington are also having an event! Maybe we should start a new thread since this one is 3 years old? LOL!
  23. June 13, 2006 by LostinReno (1539 found) Thanks Nuclear Candy, I just accomplished my very first find!! I was mortified, I think I was so nervous, since I was alone, it was getting dark, in an industrial park, I dropped the log down the pipe and didn't say anything I know better now!
  24. Just speaking from my own experiences, stay with the Garmin. We've been through two Magellan's and a Garmin Cx, we love the Garmin.
