  1. This would depend on a lot of factors. Is your cache in an urban setting or is it on top of a mountain? An urban cache is going to get hit a lot more frequent than a cache on top of a mountain. As far as different difficulties, that also depends on where you place it. I have a 1.5/1.5 that doesn't get much action because it is in the mountains and a lot of people don't generally choose that route to go to the lake. I have another one that is about 300 yards from a casino that gets hit all the time. I've found one out on an island in a lake that hadn't been hit in months.
  2. I found a dog tag that expired in 1978 from somewhere in Virginia (I found it in Nevada ), I'm thinking of making a TB out of it. I'm pretty sure that dog is long gone
  3. We did too! I think he had some threats against him and he decided to lie low for a while. We haven't listened to him since. Oh the callers were just awesome/hilarious/disturbing! We have been caching in the "Kingdom of Nye" but never saw anything out of the ordinary.
  4. Very similar story! Found out about it on another forum that had nothing to do with Geocaching much less being outdoors. One of the posters kept mentioning that her and her family did this every weekend. Proceeded to do some research on GPSr's bought a Magellan 210 and off I went. That was a year and a half ago and 740 finds later. Since then I've purchased 2 more GPS'rs and have now been swayed to a Garmin . We went to Hawaii the year before I started doing this. Hawaii would have been awesome. One of the things I love about this game is it takes you mostly to places the locals go. Now we just need to save up so we can go back to Hawaii!
  5. The cache was fine. I like finding places like that as much as I like seeing another waterfall. The real issue is your own perception. This isn't your kind of cache. That fine, but it should stop there. It's a big world and you will see a lot of things in it. If I'm not having fun I just move on to the next cache. Sometimes I do that before I get out of the car. I don't call it a bad cache. Heck it may just be that I'm not in the mood that day and next week the cache will be fine. Oh this one is just nashty! If I were from out of town staying at the Hilton/Grand Sierra. I would definately go after this cache as it's about 700' from the hotel. Being female, I would not go at night just out of common sense, but there are those that would. This area becomes a very dangerous place at night. However, if you need casual laborers, this is the cache for you! Not saying all his caches are bad, he has a puzzle cache on the other side of the same hotel which is fine. It is in a well populated, well lit area. I was also involved with the filming NevadaWolf mentioned above. He resorted to making direct threats toward her, not only on the forums but also his profile over something that was so out of anybodies but the production company's control. Anyways back to the topic. He travels all over the area a lot, so it's not uncommon for him to have caches somewhat far from where he lives. Of course now he's working at a nearby large sporting goods outfit that just opened so maybe he doesn't get out as much. Regardless, it's his responsibility for the upkeep, you should get to log the find!
  6. He has a ton of caches out here. I've found quite a few, for the most part they are decent hides, BUT, he has had some that are somewhat irresponsible. One of them being under a bridge, across from the mental institute where tons of homeless drug users like to reside. I was a new cacher when we attempted to find this one (I think it was like my 5th or 6th cache attempt). I had my dad, friend and her 5 year old with me. Needles and other homeless paraphanalia were everywhere. It almost turned me off from caching. It would have been fine if we hadn't brought the kid (who was of course fascinated with everything she found on the ground). Of course I will always now know what Hyperbole means, but at the time it was pretty awful. He also has this listed as a 24/7 cache. Which if your local, you know better than to go down there at night. This cache is next to a large hotel/casino where out of towners wouldn't know any better.
  7. Wow, that's a whole new low, even for Byjer! (yes, I know the person in question) Agreed! It should be the cache owners responsibility. Byjer, lighten up! I wouldn't let it bother you.
  8. I really like the geo bingo! Last event we had we put stickers on everybodies backs. The stickers had the names of Celebrities, local figures, politicians, etc. You had to go around and ask others questions about who you were (Male, Female, am I fictional, etc.). It turned out to be a lot of fun. One of them was Signal the Frog.
  9. Hey, me too! I'd been using an Explorist 210 and an Explorist XL for the past couple of years. The XL is just too big on long hikes or if you need to climb anything, Although as many times as my XL had been dropped (and dropped hard!) she still worked fine! So after the Triton debacle (thats for a whole 'nother thread, lets just say they have made me so mad I will probably never buy another one of their products again). I decided I would go with a Garmin. I've been caching with mostly Garmin users and it seems we each have off days. Two people with the exact same GPSr have had coords 20' from each other. I think there are so many variables that they would all be different to some extent. Way the person is holding them. Weather conditions, etc. After a few minutes of the drunken bee dance, they all seem to settle down and basically get you in the same proximity.
  10. That's awesome! Wish I was there to witness it! We've come across remnants of a meth lab, condoms, I think the grossest was a very soiled pair of tighty whiteys! They were about 4 feet from the cache! We were very relieved it wasn't the cache!
  11. hisgrace1 came to mind. They are the only ones I've ever met from Fernley. I've sent them an email, haven't gotten a response But they also haven't been on GC.com in a while either. I have a muggle friend from work that lives pretty close to the damage, they are ok, she said it is pretty unbelievable on how much flooded. I'm really suprised the mortgage companies/homeowners insurance let them go without flood insurance. They said the majority of the homeowners didn't have it. We had to carry it for the first 10 years we lived here because we are so close to a flood plane. You would think they would make the same demands being so close to a levy. Of course we don't have earthquake insurance and I suppose the likelihood of that happening is about equal!
  12. There are only a handful of cachers from Fernley. I sure hope they are all ok too! The weather has been insane here the past couple of days. (1.5" of rain yesterday, which is crazy for here)We live about 25 miles west of Fernley, lots of small local flooding but nothing near that! The positive part is there have been no reported injuries or casualties so far!
  13. Is he going to make that hot pink cast of his a temporary travel bug?
  14. Ha! I just converted to a Garmin, from the "M" word. Yeah, it took me a while to realize it only listed the 50 closest! Even though all 500 were in the unit. Big D'oh moment!
  15. That's Brilliant!!!! We buried a time capsule in high school in the early 80's, wonder what ever became of it. Hmmmm.
  16. Hi Marlin, You really need to sign up in the NGA a lot of Vegas Cachers hang out there. WhtWolfDen, Moosemob, and Clay4 are all Vegas cachers with personal coins that would most likely want to make trades. (Although I don't have a Whtwolfden one yet, ahem! hint, hint)
  17. Most Vegas cachers hang out at www.nevadageocaching.com . Fun group of people, they will gladly help you out! Wow, you're going to be there the whole month of January?? Then you much check out this event! I wish we could make it down for it
  18. Ha! We've been through this before! We marked it as a note instead of a DNF, we did find it we just couldn't sign it!
  19. Um, that's entirely false. I completed the PA Delorme Challenge, and I can say with 100% certainty that you DO need to BUY a lot of GAS. I've never seen a Delorme book other than the Nevada one, just out of curiosity, how many grids are there in the PA book? I'm just curious if there is a huge difference from state to state? Yes, there are differences. The larger states have a lot more grids. Pennsylvania has 69 grids. California and Texas probably have the most, although I don't know specifically how many. Delaware is a rather small state, so they combined it with Maryland to make both states one challenge. I'm suprised PA has 69!, Nevada has 72. Our grids just cover a lot more area! California is split, there is a Northern and a Southern book. Although I've never physically looked at either one! I've only accomplished 12 grids of the Nevada book so far LOL! At least most of your grids are near some sort of civilization! Most of our grids are pretty isolated!
  20. I never came in here claiming that I could or would even want to get 240 caches in a given 24 hour period of time. I just think if your with the right group of people and in the right place, it could be possible. If they claim it and it makes them happy to make the claim, then so be it. Why do you care so much?

  22. Yeah and I'll be totally waiting for your 250 report as well. You won't ever see it here! I cached for about 8 solid hours once on the west shore of Tahoe, I think we ended up with 30 something. That's plenty for me. I value my sleep waaaaay too much! Vegas would be a great place to try though, I'd swear there is a cache every 600' in some parts of town. You could even hit about 5 virtuals in about 10 minutes if you really wanted!
