  1. If you have read the right book, you would know what a hrududuggle is. (credit/appology to Richard Adams). And I like to think of a Horse Riding muggle as a hruggle (influenced by the above)
  2. But I bet if you disabled the cache you could then edit the log. But that might create more confusion ...
  3. Well, nothing would work without that, so yes, I'm doing that... cool, I will look for that config screen. That would make GSAK more usable... Thanks for the tip.
  4. Can you post any hints on settings you use? I lose the GCxxxxx id when I use GSAK. It shows on the GSAK screen, but does not get sent to the GPS file (.gs explorist file). Instead the leading chars from the cache name get sent. Not sure how much hint info can go, but hint or description if no hint would be nice too... Haven't explored GSAK enough to know if option is there or not.
  5. I use both, haven't decided yet. GSAK lets me filter and load the results directly to the GPSr (210). When I load them with Magellen's geocache manager the id gets preserved, and with GSAK it is gone. That may be a setting in GSAK I haven't explored yet though. The ID makes it easy to find the page to log it on, although nearby queries also work well...
  6. That got me too. But if you go back to pq's you will see it still there and can run it again after checking the current day. I checked mine a couple days later and they were still there. A strikeout shows after they run.
  7. From my observation it was rtltnls fsrfpfk and is now rtlsspm fslttpl but the cache owner has stated
  8. The numbers were in decimal format, check the second FAQ of Markwells
  9. Personally, I was not thrilled by those choices. Sometimes I use http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert?form=address, it lets me draw a map to check it. Sometimes I use the geocache google map and put an address in the search by address bar and then check the centerpoint by clicking on it (sometimes need to toggle show centerpoint on and off).
  10. That's exactly why I am advocating personal lists made public. You will quickly see if a persons idea of favorite matches yours. The list TrailGator posted has entries on the caches for some of the favorite lists. Look at GCME1Z and GCM5XJ for a couple examples. Unfortunately, the first was rated 12 and the second 7, and there is no way to see that from the cache page (maybe the bookmark list could have the number of votes, but that is higher maintenance...). But those caches are on a couple of personal favorite lists that show up so if I were to like a couple on someones list I would use their list to hunt from. I'm not in San Diego or close so I won't be doing them, but I think it is a good start. I still think the number of favorites that show up on a cache page is a good indication. Now if more poeple will make public favorites lists, especially near me....
  11. So why not make the favorites lists public as bookmarks to start with? It's a start at least! I created mine today. And, note that I had missed the point of the post first time I read it - Till I read KBI quote it. First time I read the first sentance and skipped the rest, so just a suggestion to put useful info before negative comments as I expect there are a number like me that stop reading after an opening like that.
  12. Or just do it. Any cacher can create a list of their favorites and make it public. If enough do it, then there is an adhoc rating system in place. If almost nobody does it, then I guess that is a vote for not doing ratings.... The bookmark lists show up on the cache page today. I have followed a favorites bookmark list of an extreme cacher...and probably would follow a list from a local cacher if I liked one that was on their list.
  13. A list would still be harder to look thru than a map with a bunch of pins...
  14. YES. Good idea, but since there were very few comments on it, let me point out the bookmark lists section for any that missed it. (Scroll up and look if you missed it) I have not tried it, but I believe that anyone (well, any premium members) can create their own bookmark lists and mark them as public. Then they will show up on the cache listing. So, everyone can already create a bookmark list called "GONG" and add any bad caches to their list. The requested feature is there already, as Markwell illustrated for us. People can also create bookmark lists called "Super Hides" or "My Favorites" or "This Rules" and make them public as well. When creating bookmark lists, you also get a short description that will show up if someone views the list, so more details can be added.

It would be if there was a 'mark all' button. I find that clicking on all bookmark icons lights them all up, but they don't all get added. I have to refresh the page, and then click the ones that got missed, and repeat a couple of times. But it is 'Beta'...
  16. You can just use GSAK export file and put the 210 file location in and skip the extra 'download' step. Click the save to file icon and navagate to the USB drive the 210 is on. Just be sure the required format is 'explorist geocache'.
  17. Well, I used it on a cache that had been moved, and it worked well. There was an earlier find logged that said muggles were looking at it and the hiding spot was destroyed. The person re-hid it and posted new co-ords about 20 feet away. I missed the post, but did find the cache anyway. After logging a find, I tried the NM post with new coordinates hoping others would see it before looking. It worked well, and the owner was able to update the coordinates on the page. Have to admit I did not think of sending a message to the owner. I do think that any info about a cache that would be useful to the next seeker should use the NM post rather than an email that may or may not be acted on.
  18. Just checked one, and they show up for me still. checked http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...67-f967b2685466
  19. I am new also, and just got the magellan Explorist 210. Hooks up to computer so I can download cache files. Haven't bought the map package so just using the background map at this point (very high level). It takes 2 AA batteries, so it works well with my large stash of NiMh batteries (my 9yr old has a lot of AA powered toys). Afraid I can't compare it to others, but accuracy has been great imo. EDIT: also there is currently a $30 rebate on it, so I got it for <$150, which seemed to be a good price
  20. cool, that works and gets me degree/minute accuracy. It does give directions similar to what I am used to, but the interface is slightly harder (simple things like field order on the form - tab does not move where I expect...). Thanks! For others: I have also found http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert?form=address that will take the address in the form accepted by mapquest/google map/etc. and convert it to degree/minute.xxx format. edit: spelling
  21. Ok, I have loaded a number of cache coordinates into my GPS, no problem. Usually I also have a destination that I have a mapquest map up for, and want to also load the coordinates of that destination into my GPS as well. I've tried a few things, but haven't found a good way yet. It seems simple - allow me to click on a map and get the coordinates manually or even better create a waypoint file. Any pointers?
