  1. Inquiring minds want to know!
  2. There are lots of good caching opportunities in an around New Castle. I have ventured there 3 times and still haven't done them all. There are quite a few caches right in Memorial Park too.
  3. I am a Hoosier through & through! However, I have great friends in South Haven, MI. We visit them quite often and even introduced them to geocaching. We try to get a few Michigan caches whenever we visit them. We will be there again July 4th weekend!! See you then!
  4. The calendar is marked! Woohoo!
  5. Hey everybody! I have turned my Honda Element into a travel bug. Keep an eye out for it and log it if you see it! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=572909
  6. The cemetery is here: N 41° 29.509 W 087° 22.190 Doesn't appear to be any caches there. This one is nearby: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...c0075&log=y
  7. If they add their DNF's to a public bookmark list, you can see them. Mine are visible in my profile. That's a good workaround for those of us who want to make them available. Thanks for the tip! Also, if you are on a cache's page and that cache is on someone's DNF bookmark list, it will tell you that on the right side of the screen.
  8. If they add their DNF's to a public bookmark list, you can see them. Mine are visible in my profile.
  9. I log all my DNFs and I bookmark them for all to see. If I eventually find it, I remove it from my bookmark list, but I leave my DNF logs. Sometimes I DNF'd it because it had been muggled. Sometimes it is because it just got the better of me. Either way, my DNF log is an important part of the permanent record. There are two caches that I DNF'd three times each before finding them on the 4th try. I kept looking for those particular caches because I had heard they were great hides. Once I found them I agreed and was glad I didn't give up! All in all, I have 43 DNFs. Of those, there are 32 I still haven't gone back and found. There are local cachers in my area that I have run into at a cache. After giving up without finding it, I realized later, they don't log their DNFs. They also seem to enjoy running up the numbers. Not judging them, just not my style. If that's how they choose to play the game, then that's their business.
  10. Nope, nothing on the card. You can fit the whole US from the Navigator NT on a 1Gb card and still have some room for some of the TOPO stuff. I think the Navigator NT US takes about about 800Mb.
  11. Where in Indiana are you? Maybe you could hook up with one of us Hoosiers to help get started. I have a Garmin 60csx. The maps are not necessary for general geocaching. They do help though. I have City Navigator North America NT v7 loaded on my 60csx. With the NT version, you can fit all of the US on a 1Gb microSD card. I also have the topo maps, but they are not loaded right now.
  12. Just wanted to praise ShieldZone again in case anybody is looking to buy! I sent my Garmin 60csx into Garmin for repair and just received a replacement unit back last night. Of course that means I don't have the invisibleSHIELD on the new unit. I emailed ShieldZone and explained the situation. They said that if I fax them the paperwork showing the unit was replaced, they would send me a replacement invisibleSHIELD for $2.95 (the cost of shipping and handling). I couldn't be happier with their customer service! Rivals that of Garmin!
  13. Forgive me for straying away from the praise of Garmin for a moment to respond about ShieldZone... I just got off the phone with ShieldZone from ordering my replacement. In order to keep my warranty on the replacement, I just have to fax them the paperwork from Garmin showing that my unit was replaced with another unit. I have purchased (10) invisibleSHIELDS from ShieldZone in the last 4 months. I have given them as gifts, and I have them on my GPSr's, my Palm, and my wife's iPod. And after dealing with their tech support, I will continue buying from them. That being said, someone on another forum suggested I look at http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/StoreFront They are supposed to be the exact same material but cheaper. They do not offer ready-made shields for as many devices as ShieldZone does though. Perhaps you could cut something to fit. They also don't list a lifetime warranty on their site that I can find, like ShieldZone does. So, buy the cheaper one if you must, but I am sticking with ShieldZone! A Garmin protected by an invisibleSHIELD from ShieldZone is the only way to go in my opinion!
  14. Update to my situation: 1) I received the DVD for my Garmin Nuvi within 3-4 days of emailing them to request it. Very speedy! 2) I just received a new 60csx from Garmin yesterday to replace the one I sent them with the missing "in" button. Very speedy replacement. Now there are two new issues: 1) My City Select North America NT v7 from my StreetPilot i2 was unlocked for the 60csx that I sent to Garmin for repair. Since they sent me a different unit back, the maps are not unlocked for that serial number. I am awaiting an answer from Garmin on what to do about that. I imagine they will provide me with a new unlock code. 2) The Garmin I sent them for repair had an invisibleSHIELD screen protector with lifetime warranty on it and the one they sent me back doesn't. I have contacted ShieldZone.com about that and they are replacing the invisibleSHIELD for only $2.95 (the cost of shipping & handling) So, assuming that I receive an unlock code from Garmin, everything will be good again!
  15. I really wanted to help you out with this, but wasn't able to get over there tonight. Hope you get it back! Keep us posted!
  16. No but I am open to sending a reward. My GPS is in the shop right now, but if I can get ahold of Dad, I will see if he wants to try to retrieve this tonight. No reward necessary. Just seems like a great project to play with the GPS on!
  17. Darn, saw this too late. I was scheduled to be off tomorrow and live about 30 minutes from the airport there. However, I just agreed a little while ago to come to work tomorrow. And I just made plans for tonight too.
  18. This is my process for preparing for a caching trip: On Palm, delete all records from CacheMate On 60csx (handheld), delete all waypoints Load PQs into GSAK In GSAK, export everything into CacheMate file for the Palm In GSAK, export everything into POIs for both my Nuvi (in the car) and the 60csx (handheld) From GSAK, load the closest (to where I will be caching) 900 caches that I haven't found into my 60csx Run POI Loader to load both my GPS's Hotsync Palm to load CacheMate Then while out caching, I log all my finds & DNFs within CacheMate. When returning home from caching I do the following to log my finds & DNFs: Hotsync Palm to get CaheMate logs onto PC Run Express Logger webpage to log all finds & DNFs That's all there is too it for me. It takes me about 15 minutes to prepare for a cache trip and about 15 minutes after a trip to get everything logged. Steps 1-3 of my preparation can be done anytime during the week before I go caching. Steps 4-8 are done right before I go caching. My PQs are mailed to me throughout the week to keep GSAK updated. The "My Finds" PQ gets run every week or so to keep my finds updated in GSAK and to update my stats on my profile. I have tried the GSAK macro way to get things back into GSAK and then log them from there, but I prefer my method. Plus, I also sync my Palm at work, so I can use the Express Logger page from there even though I don't have GSAK loaded if I have to. I run a macro in GSAK to create POIs. Then I run Garmin's POILoader to load them onto the Nuvi as POIs.
  19. I know the button was still on when I was at the cache. Then I got in the car and fastened my seatbelt with the GPS hanging on my belt in the beltclip. The next time I looked at it, I noticed the button missing. Looks like it ripped the top half of the button off. My 60csx is at Garmin right now being repaired. I did notice after the fact, that the "in" and "out" buttons stick up higher than the rest. Have you seen any other cases of this happening? Strange that we both had it happen this week!
  20. I loaded City Navigator NT v7 on my 60csx when I still had my StreetPilot i2. It works great!
  21. I believe the NT stands for "new technology" or so I have read. It uses a different type of compression and can fit the whole US on a 1Gb card I believe. I don't think you can do that with the non-NT version.
  22. I'd like to add my $0.02 about Garmin's customer support! This past weekend, I was out caching and noticed that the "in" button on my 60csx had gotten torn right off the unit. I tried to run down to the local "in" button store so as to not drive up the prices of the Garmin units but they were fresh out of "in" buttons! (ok, I made up that last sentence). I got on Garmin's website to contact tech support. I explained what happened and inquired about what steps I needed to take to get it repaired. I still have the email in case anyone questions whether I was complaining to get something for free. Within 2 hours at approximately 11:30pm EST I received a reply with an RMA # and an address to send it to for repair. He added that since it was a fairly new unit, they would repair the unit at no cost to me. I emailed back a question about turn-around time and received a reply back within about 8 minutes that it would take about 10 days from the time they received my unit. I have emailed them to make sure they received it and quickly got a reply that they have it in their possession. And the day after my initial contact, I emailed them inquiring about a DVD for my Garmin Nuvi and received a reply back the same day that they were dropping one in the mail for me. So far, I have been totally pleased with Garmin's support! It is support like that that will keep me coming back to Garmin. In fact, I am on my second Garmin handheld and my second Garmin car GPS, so I am a 4-time Garmin owner. Plus I have gotten by word of mouth several people to by at least 8 other Garmin units. ETA: I hadn't read all the replies before I posted. I see that Vanillahip had the same problem as me.
  23. I just received mine Saturday! They are great looking!
  24. I don't live near enough to come caching during the week, but if you get a chance, you ought to check out: Jungle Jim's Market Inc 5440 Dixie Hwy, Fairfield, OH http://www.junglejims.com/ It is a really cool grocery store! I guarantee you haven't seen a store like it before! Foods & alcohol from all over the world. You can buy buffalo, rattlesnake, osterich, elk, and anything else you can think of. Looks like it is about 8 miles from Evendale. As for Cincinnati-style chili, check out any Skyline or Goldstar Chili restaurant. They are very similar in my opinion. Maybe some Cincinattians (is that a word?) can chime in and offer more assistance. There should be plenty of them all around wherever you are.
