  1. Big Boy's owner said the neighbors don't mind.
  2. I got to visit both Big Boy and Just Another Film Canister about 3 weeks ago while in Michigan! They were great! And only a block apart too!
  3. I agree with Neos2's comments. And I like these drawings the best! Great job so far! I can't wait to get them.
  4. Now that's cool! I've found that it seems to work on all my TBs but none of the coins at this stage. I have it working for everything I have activated as long as the item has a picture attached. If there's no picture on the coin or TB's page, then it doesn't work. Do your coins have pictures?
  5. In theory yes. In reality, who's gonna know? Is there a cache near your house? Do you drive by that area often? Say that you dipped it there. It's your coin. Do what you want with it. It's not like you are saying you "found" the cache without going to it.
  6. That's what I plan to do. I will dip it into one cache on every caching trip (assuming I can see the car from a cache, since the car is my TB). Then I will dip it back into my home cache. See mine for example: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...1a-e33a431b414c I got my mileage problem fixed by deleting my logs on my unpublished home cache and the cache I had logged it into. Then I relogged them in the correct order. The mileage is now working. I think previously I logged them in the wrong order even though I predated the one.
  7. My friends' kids finding another ammo can! Same kids finding another film canister!
  8. Sorry to revive such an old thread, but... Does the preloaded database contain the coin pictures already? How many coins in the database? Any update info other than what is posted here? Where's that eval version?
  9. I thought about using Excel when I did my first coin, but I use several different computers through the day, and I wanted to be able to deal with an email when I got it as quickly as possible, so I ended up settling on a Google Spreadsheets ( http://docs.google.com ) for my purposes. It's not as flashy or sophisticated as Excel, but it does get the job done, and I can get to it from any PC with an internet connection. That's how I keep track of mine too.
  10. I did that too. However, when I dipped a coin/TB in it, and then some other cache, it doesn't add any mileage. For example: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=572909
  11. I had a geocoin go missing. Actually, I knew who had it, but he never released it. Somewhere along the line, I marked the coin as missing since the person hadn't responded to repeated emails. Recently this cacher found the coin in his suitcase where it had been since sometime last year. He manned up, explained the situation, and apologized for the LONG delay in the coin's log and promised to release it this week. Do I need to do anything to help the coin no longer be "missing"? I asked the cacher to "grab" the coin, so that it shows back up in his possession. If he does that and then "drops" the coin in another cache, will that do the trick?
  12. Is this the same as the Walmart set? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=010 I only saw the one at Walmart in passing, but this sounds like it with the blue & grey backgrounds.
  13. I will be visiting South Haven this weekend and hope to grab a couple in your neck of the woods if I have time. I hear there is a giant film canister and giant ammo can that are waiting for me!
  14. I will be up in Michigan visiting friends nearby these two caches this weekend and have them on my todo list!
  15. I have a TB stuck in a wet cache down under. I sure wish someone would go rescue it and set it free! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=557074
  16. I got stuck working late and didn;t get to Walmart tonight. I wanted to check it out better. Was it a hard box or one of those softsided things? Was it $50? It came with lights, right? Could you use posterboard or something for additional backgrounds? I have tried two different nights now to do the suggestions in this thread about shooting outside in the shade. The pictures are too dark in the shade and there are shadows in the light. I have been doing this in the evening 5:30-6:30 EST. Is there a better time of day I should be trying this?
  17. A guy I work with heard me talking about light boxes. After I explained what I needed, he offered to give me the CPVC piping and two halogen lights for free! Guess I know which route I am taking!
  18. I just found that myself today too! I would think it would work. I am toying with building one myself. Check out this link I just found with plans to build one: http://www.pbase.com/wlhuber/light_box_light_tent There's also a very nice flash-based tutorial on building it on that page. Looks like it's about $15 minus the lights. WOW, that was a very nice tutorial. I had a hard time pulling myself away from it. Rather than building I think I would rather by someting that is a little more compact and it is the same price to buy one than to build one Yeah, you are probably right. Since I am only wanting to photograph a few coins, the one you linked to would be nice probably. Looks like it just folds up to put away.

  20. Yes, it was in the photo dept. I didn't look at it closely, because I didn't realize I wanted to do this till later that night when I remembered seeing it there. I may go look at it tonight.
  21. That sounds like the thing I saw at Walmart the other day. It was about $50. I don't know what it is called so I couldn't find it on walmart.com to link here.
  22. Thanks for all the answers. I no longer have an operational scanner, so I will try the shots outside. My camera does have the close-up/macro setting so I will give that a try. So, white paper is what I want? I have seen others suggest a black background.
  23. Can anyone give me some pointers on photographing my geocoins? I don't want to spend a bunch of money on equipment. I'd like to be able to just use things I might already have. I have a decent digital camera with macro mode. I saw a little photo studio setup at Walmart today for around $50, but I don't want to spend that much since I am not making money on coins. I just wanna dress up their pages! If I were making money selling things on the E place or something, I'd be willing to put more money into a proper setup. Basically, I just want to attach pictures of my coins top their pages on my trackables tab. The pictures I toyed with yesterday were either too dark or the flash reflected off the coins.
  24. Send me you snail mail and I'll send you one of my pathtags to get your collection started:) I believe I have a plastic sig token of yours that I picked up in Texas while on vacation. Don't you travel back and forth from Alaska to Texas? I was visiting friends and introduced them to geocaching. We also hid a cache together and I see your name on the log: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...ecbbc&log=y
  25. Wow, I love your design! I was a combat engineer in a previous life, so the castle icon really grabbed me! Any way you'd trade me one? I have a few of the MAGC (Military Association of Geocachers) pathtags: http://track.pathtags.com/publicpathtagprofile.php?id=5281 I want to get my own designed sometime soon. I have a basic design but need to find someone to help me.
