  1. Sweet, thanks for the info and pics bullygoat29... I'm really close to deciding I can't live without one of these... If I do I think I'm gonna check our local REI and see if they are stocking them yet... Maybe I can use my discount card, I think you get 10% off with that... Or Cabela's, I think I have some points there, plus with them I can use in store pickup and save on shipping... Anyone else use it for caching??? Someone load up a handful, get out there and provide us with a detailed After Action Report!!! Thank again bullygoat for the info and pics...
  2. I'm fairly interested in the Montana 650t, I'll use it about 80% Geocaching, 10% in the vehicle, maybe 5-10% logging trails hiked or rode on the ATV or Boat.... The logging the trails really is the least important too me, if it works it works, if not ehh... I've used the Colorado 400T since it was released have been really happy with it The complaints about it are Battery life, long bootup /Satellite acquisition time and the occasional lock up... But I have enjoyed the unit and found a bunch of caches with it... I think the ones I did not find were do to my lack of ability to find them vs the GPSr pointing me in the right direction... I would love to hear a comparison between the Montana 650T and the Colorado 400T and more from folks who have really used it a lot for Geocaching.... I've not seen any pics of the various screens and menus relating to caching, so that would be nice also if anyone has them. Does it actually have Geocaching mode like the Colorado and others have had??? Ohh and Garmin Chirp support? I do not recall any mention of this... Is it dead or did I miss it??? Also wanted to say this seems to be a pretty good thread, Seems like everyone is being specific about what bugs they have ran into vs just complaining that the unit is junk , detailed the issue well, then shared any feedback from Garmin... I find this helpful in learning more about the unit...
  3. I did not realize that a Key box / Key holder (one of those magnetic one that goes under a fender or anywhere you want to stick it and has room for a key or maybe a few) would be called a Micro... For some dumb reason, when I thought of a Micro, I was only thinking of one of these... I did not realize that other caches with really small capacity would be in this too... Cool, thanks all... The responses answer my questions and does help... Thanks again.
  4. I know there is a page somewhere that list the type of cache containers and has a pic of them. I can't find it now and I want to print it out for the wife... 1st. Question, Anyone have a link to a good page with a bunch? I'm sure there is no end all be all as anything could be used, but I''m just trying to get her going and help out... I showed her a Micro and a few Key boxes today... 2nd Question. When someone describes the cache in the the Cache description, if they are going to do that shouldn't' they do it right or to the best of their ability? I know a lot of folks don't give a description of the cache at all to make it more challenging, which is cool; Or is throwing you off with the description part of the game? I ask because, we found several today that were listed as Micros and would be what I would call Keyboxes, unless my terminology is wrong.. Not trying to be a jerk, just curious as to you all thought...
  5. Same here... I do that same thing... I awhile back I ordered a 10 Pack of trackables that look like little good Bullions... Oh yea, What Icons are ya refering too... I always miss the obvious...
  6. I pretty much use the same type of Bag, just a different color (sort of a Desert Tanish) for mostly the same stuff... What do you use the Ipod touch for while caching??? Music, Geocache app or??? Currious as I have one, but I never take it... I'm afraid, I'll lose it, break it or something and the twigs always end up ripping my earbuds out when doing some heavy bushwacking... Jus curious... PS. I still ose stuff, even with the cool bag and cargo pants... For me never to lose something, I'd have to just stay at home, wait, that doesn't work either...
  7. Cool, keep us posted... If nothing else, by all of us hitting up Garmin support, we are showing them we are out here, geocaching and supporting our Colorados... So maybe they keep up the development, fixing bugs and adding features...
  8. OK, well, I don't usually say this, but I'll be happier if I'm wrong... Long live the Colorado!!!
  9. Since the latest software update for the Garmin is in it's first beta release, you'll have to wait and see if it will eventually include the ability to program the chirp once the final release is available,ie,3.6. In respect to the range issue you have,I don't know what to say, other than what you suspect may be correct as it's difficult to imagine it being a hardware issue within the Colorado. I thought I read a response from Garmin that said, with software updates the Colorado will be able to find and read the CHiRPs, but never program them as it is not supported by the Colorado's Hardware capabilities... So a software Update will do no good in relation to that.... Hopefully, I'm wrong as it would be a cool feature to add...
  10. Sent them an e-mail over/between the Holidays after seeing Mark202s post to let them know I was a Colorado user and did not want them to stop supporting it and would also like CHiRP support...... Here was the reply I got on 01/05/2011... Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to help you with this issue. We still support the all the Colorado devices, we just no longer manufacture them. All the support is still available for your device, is there an issue you need assistance with? We can help you fix the Colorado. The chirp feature is not able to work with the Colorado series at this point, it could be something that comes in a software update but as of right now it is not compatible. I will forward your concerns to management.
  11. Not brave enough to run a Beta... My 400t is running Software 3.50 GPS Ver 2.90
  12. Seeing the exact same thing here.. Not a huge deal I guess, but I like to scout out my next area of attack, sometimes a few days ahead of time and leave a tab open with this... Tried it with and without the auto-refresh checked too... I figured that was mostly for when you pan around on the map, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try toggling that to see...
  13. It is what we basically call these official looking brown sign boards that the State or Federal Gov. puts up in State or Federal (respectively) parks. Ahh OK, I know exactly what you mean... Just never heard them called that... Or anything for that matter...
  14. But that's not what the OP did. He made some sarcastic complaints and demands, and then disappeared. He didn't seek help at all. Frankly, I hope he shops his apps store and finds another game to play. However, one must remember that other new people can read this thread as well. Not just him. And how does this look to all the other people reading? Can't please everyone... Maybe I mis read, but it looks like the OP just wanted to poop on things... There was no direct questions on how to do anything, he just vented.... Some folks vented back... You make a post like that, a lot of folks are not going to hold your hand and make you hot Coco with Extra lil marshmallows and tell you pretty stories... Maybe I give too much credit, but I'm member of a lot of forums for various hobbies and I think most new folks that come looking for help or just to read more about the subject matter would see it that way too; not turn and run... I'm one of the newer folks here, but from what I have seen, if you come here looking for help and not just to rip stuff up these folks will generally go outta their way to help you out.... My hats off to everyone for making this place what it is and thank you for the help and advice you have all given me in the past (and future)...
  15. I hate to ask, but what is this "Kiosk", you speak off???
  16. But that's not what the OP did. He made some sarcastic complaints and demands, and then disappeared. He didn't seek help at all. Frankly, I hope he shops his apps store and finds another game to play. Your looking at it wrong, Its like dealing with Terrorists and Extremists, its not them, its you... YOU, need to embrace them and understand them, You have to be open and tolerant.... /Sarcasm
  17. Sure; that would be cool.. Thank ya. Thanks for the replies all. I'm just curious about the technologist and how it work, both the Communicator part and the GPSr itself. I love new technology. While I know its not comparing apples to Apples, I was just comparing it to the Colorado as thats what I have and all I've used. I do like my Colorado, but I'm not locked into it of there is something better or worth upgrading too in the future... My only two complaints about it are Battery life and the fact that they abandoned it and are now longer developing code for it..
  18. Nope... what he meant was that geocaching.com would be susceptible to competition from Google (or Garmin ) if they don't simplify things for new users. Ahhh, Good point, I did not even think about it that way... I was thinking like network (D.O.S.) attack or something... I know Garmin is dipping their toe in the business is Google doing anything directly related?
  19. Anyone used the PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator for Geocaching??? I tried searching for it on here and I did not see much... I was wonder how it would compare to say the Colorado 400t and the Oregon 550t??? Also wondering about how it Updates Geocaching.com logs from the field? My Colorado works just fine, but its always nice to stay on top of whats out there... Looks pretty cool to me, but sometimes looks and Marketing can be deceiving...
  20. Does it looks like this??? If so, Yes... I bought a handful of those about a year ago and have released most of them into the wild now, I need to go check on them and see where they all are...
  21. if you spend a few bucks at Cache-advance.com they can make you an outside decal with the same number (or a TB magnet). Thanks, I'll check'em out....
  22. No such thing as too many GPS's Only got the two true gps's and a Droid X. They are like guns and you can never have too many of them, or too much ammo! I like your style....
  23. Congrats on the find!!! You'll have some days like that and some where you can't find the on button on your own GPSr.... Sounds like you are off and running though... Also, its cool that you may have found a Caching partner... While you can have a lot of fun doing it on your own, I find it more enjoyable with someone... Merry Christmas...
  24. Sport, Hobby, Game, Pass time, Obsession, etc... W.G.A.F., as long as you get to do and and your having fun.....
  25. Try opengeocacheging.come or whatever, then compare it with here.... I bet you like this better...
