  1. Heck, why even look for caches at all? Turn off your GPS and just wander about aimlessly taking in "all the sights"....same thing as you describe...right? What's your point?
  2. Thanks all...I think I got it.....there are a bazillion caches near Philly
  3. I performed a pocket query on a zip code and asked for the closest 100 caches limited to 50 mile radius. I then did a zip code search from the geocaching home page. The query missed a large number of caches in the zip code area that were less than 2 miles from the zip code!!!???? I would think that the query engine would "look" for the closest caches to the zip code and move away from that point until it hit the distance or max number of caches...BUT this is not the case. Can anyone shed light on this? Now I'm concerend there are MANY caches that did not make my queries search that are local to me with no way to find other than using the "standard" search...which would be tedious at best...since they must be loaded one at a time?!??!
  4. Being new to the sport, my team is tired of the garbage we are finding in cache's. A "higher" end cache with "qaulity" items is all I'd like. Creative, useful, quality items...that's all. Seems like a lot of people take the good stuff and leave their kids crap....not in the spirit at all.
  5. Does anyone know how to remove overlapped pushpins on imported data sets?? I import one set of caches's and assign them a pushpin icon type. I then import another set of data/caches that may contain similar caches along with some new ones. Some of the pushpin data points/caches then show two icons/pushpins named the same. Is there any way to do a compare and remove? Or am I stuck removing them one by one individually??
  6. I have a Garmin 60csx and Streets & Trips 2006. I downloaded the Franson gpsgate and it worked fine. I can now use my laptop and 60csx in my car as a larger screen GPS with voice prompted navigation..
  7. Ok...I understand that but how do you then get them into S&T's??? I can read them by using your file path...and that's what I do in the field...but how do you "link" them into S&T pushpins?? Also, the data in the HTML pages is the same info you get from GSAK by clicking on the cache name. It's not the on-line information but the information from the zipped query file you loaded into GSAK. The URL page is "captured" when you ask for the query. So if you download a query into GSAK, keep in mind the cache info you get on those HTML pages may be outdated based on the age of query.
  8. Do you mean the URL in the information box? I'm not really sure what you're asking. If I open the pushpin information box, there is a URL that takes me to the geocaching page for that cache. Of course you must be connected to the internet.
  9. The battery compartment has a rubber o-ring-type seal that should prevent any moisture from getting into the battery compartment. As far as overall waterproofness goes?...well, personally I wouldn't test that 1 meter claim but I would use it in mild rain with no fears.
  10. I already paid for the second premium membership. Any chance of getting a refund for the first?
  11. I had what I thought was good reason but was still denied. Had to re-register under a new name. Thankfully, I was new, so had no finds. The bad part was that I was a premium member....
  12. Mine works OK... As you type each letter, it will riffle down the list getting you closer to the spelled name. For instance, when I hit the first letter "P", it will go to the first cache starting with the letter "P" on the list. If I then hit "E", it will go to the first cache with the begining letters "PE" further refining the search....and so on.
  13. Get two 1GB cards. One for the East and one for the West...
  14. What do you mean by that? The use of the term "gay" in a pejorative manner is offensive and disrespectful. Please find more appropriate words. As to your problem, are you saying that the compass page doesn't show a bearing pointer after performing a GOTO command, when navigating to a waypoint, but the map page does in fact show a bearing line? Could you post a screenshot? Perhaps he meant "gray"...as in "grayed out"....??
  15. Me too!!! STATUS: Order Packed, Awaiting Pickup by Carrier (as of 6/25/2006)
  16. OK...looking for a cache.... You must hold the unit vertical to get the best satellite locks and accuracy BUT you must hold the unit horizontal to get the compass to point at the cache location. So...how do you all do it to when you get really close and want the best readings. What's you style as you get close???
  17. Page 54 & 55 in your manual talks about Data Fields. You can change the number of Data Fields diplayed on the compass page and what items display in each box.
  18. Anyone know an on-line vendor that has it in-stock?? I want a legit on-line store so I can get the V8 upgrade later...no E-Bay. Thanks
  19. Kristi, Ignore them... I'm new here too...and spent a lot of time lurking....and was surprised. There's a small group here that like to think they are gods in this sport...they spend more time bitching here than they do looking for caches. Griping over rules, micro's, he-said-she-said, etc etc...instead of looking for more caches or hepling others. I come to the forums to get information and throw out the rest of the jibber-jabber and stupid responses that help no one. I, too, had a hard time with the home coordinates but eventually figured it out...as you did too. Good luck....
  20. I downloaded about 700 waypoints from GSAK to my 60CSX. When I look at the waypoints, it only lists 50 that I can scroll through. At first, I thought there was a problem and only 50 downloaded. But then, I found you can "change your reference" point and others will show up. Is there any way to get the entire list of all waypoints that I dowloaded to show up under the waypoint menu??? or am I limited to 50 without changing the "reference point"??
  21. Ok....I just bought Mapsource Topo. The package contains three CD's. CD 1 has Setup and Western US CD 2 has Easter US CD 3 has Hawaii and Alaska I put CD 1 into PC and install wizard installs the Mapsouce program but DOES NOT install detailed maps of Western US. When I open Mapsource, I can see the western US map...but when I zoom in, it asks me to insert the Western US Map CD!!! I have tried to get these detailed maps onto my PC but Mapsouce will not recognize them no matter where I manually put them. How in the heck do you get a FULL install of all the maps onto the PC??? I want ALL the maps on my PC....but cannot find anything on how/where to install them....and I do not want to keep having to carry around CD's.
