  1. Friends, the fire situation is getting critical in Southwest Oregon. If you go to www.geomac.gov and click on the Florence Fire or the Timbered Rock Fire you will not believe what you see. These fires are Exploding at this time. The entire towns of Cave Junction, Selma, and O'brien have been put on 30 minute evacuation notice. Residents on Elk Creek Road above West Branch Elk Creek Road are being evacuated. Hwy 199 is closed in Northern California.

  3. The last three days have been the worst for smoke in the Rogue Valley. When the wind blows from the west, we get smoke from the Biscuit-Florence fire, and when it blows from the north, we get smoke from the Timbered Rock fire. Combine that with temperatures in the mid 90's, and it has been pretty disheartening.

  5. Hey, I just noticed that on the www.geocaching.com homepage it states right at the top: "The sport where YOU are the search engine." You can check it out for yourself.

Question: Do you think that this tagline should stay the same on the homepage, or should it be switched to say something else instead of "sport"?

  6. I use plastic containers primarily because I can get a hold of them about $5.00 cheaper than I can an ammo can for the size I use.

However, I can see where in a few years the plastic will get brittle and break, whereas the ammo can will last many times that.

  7. There is a format to follow to enter an official recovery. You can read all about it on the official Geodetic website.(somebody post the link for me icon_smile.gif )

I am sure the administrators at Groundspeak.com pondered whether or not to follow the format, and probably decided it was too tedious a task for "hobbyists", or something like that.

Hopefully, this will become such a large database that "The Agency" will adapt our findings on their own, but, of course, DON'T bet on that!

  9. I don't like snakes. I don't mind Mountain Lions, but I don't like snakes. So, to ease my mind a little I went to www.cabelas.com and purchased a pair of snake boots. They come up to the knee, are SUPPOSED to be rattlesnake proof, and are comfortable as all get out. They are also very good prevention against ticks, poison oak, and poison ivy, and are waterproof.(or at least water resistant, I don't feel like pulling out the warranty at the moment.) I just pull my levi 501's over the top of them, and I can hike with confidence. That confidence may be all in my head, but at least I FEEL safer. =)

  11. Let me see if I have this right ??

In NO way am I to put anything man-made in a Federally Designated Wilderness area, but the Oregon Wilderness Coalition is asking me to put caches in Proposed Wilderness Areas...

Is the Oregon Wilderness Coalition working on State of OREGON Wilderness Designation(if there is such a thing), or are they trying to expand on FEDERAL Wilderness Designations ??
