  1. quote:Originally posted by Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking: Thack Pack, photos are great, but this is from the benchmark main page. It clearly states that photo proof is not necessary. I know that pictures are not necessary but I still think they are important. Please don't read important as essential. I have held off on logging certain benchmarks until I had a camera with me. I still have several I need to take pictures of to log. These are benchmarks that I have stumbled across in my day to day life without a GPSr, camera, or PID description. If I have a picture I can make sure I'm logging the correct mark since the coordinates are going to be off anyway and the description might not exactly fit the location. I have made the mistake of logging improper marks once and would like to avoid it in the future if I can.
  2. IMHO...It is important to have a clear picture of the mark in question to log it as a find. This serves several purposes. First, it proves that there is still a mark there. Second, it proves you were there. (People who are copying other peoples benchmark pictures need to use their powers for something more important.) Lastly, the picture can be used to verify that you are logging the correct benchmark.
  3. My daughter is now two weeks old. I want to take her geocaching (not as a trade item) but am afraid see is still to young. So my question for the more experienced family cachers out there is how old should she be before we go out for our first cache?
  4. quote:...alternates with a message telling you how far you are behind the expected 2 hours per 9 holes. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I want to know who uses the in-dash GPSr in thier 4x4 to find a geocache. Having just purchased such a vehicle the thought of driving right up to a cache has really peaked my interest.
  6. There is no way you can NOT put this cache back out somewhere. This is too good.
  7. Perhaps a bunch of Garmin Rhinos to keep up with your nine kids.
  8. quote:Originally posted by fivebushs: I am very familiar with these windshields you mention...we used to own a vehicle that had one. Still doesn't make sense that my Legend even works in the back seat of my car surrounded by metal and heavy metallic tint. The metallic coating is used to block the UV rays that can damage sensitive electrical equipment. Since there is very little important electical equipment in the back the window is left untreated.
  9. I fully intend too. I just figured I'd ask and see if anybody else had any info on these folks.
  10. I have been bidding on a bunch of GPS units on ebay recently for a friend. I am now getting emails from people to sell me similar or the same item often at fractions of the current price on ebay. I have not bid on items from the people sending me the emails. Several of these emails have been written with bad grammer (not that mines perfect) and/or bad spelling. My first hunch was to ignore and delete these emails but I wanted to know if anyone else here has had a similar thing happen and if anyone here had purchased a GPSr from these emails?

  13. Just don't attach your Travel Bug to a note like this. Click Here
  14. Contains the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of Vitamins G P S.
  15. I'm currently at the less reguarded but not less important milestone of 69.
  16. I started out just logging benchmarks that I found inadvertently. The first ones were those that I caught a glimpse of as I was driving or walked past on my college campus. As you can imagine benchmarks are hard to find in any significant numbers in that manner. I have recently started going out in search of specific marks. IMHO finding a benchmark is a lot like finding a micro cache. Or like a little red wagon you can push it, pull it, or leave it alone.
  17. Looks good but you seem to be missing a metric ton of McToys.
  18. How did he get a buried cache past Jeremy & Co?
  19. In a situation like this you have got to lie. Go ahead and give the 911 folks your location. If you're asked how you are so sure tell them you've used a sextant fashioned out of branches to ascertain your position. Tell them anything BUT that your GPSr says you're there. Then hide your GPSr in your pocket and wait for rescue. Finally, when you get home...sell it on e-bay.
  20. And then what do you do after you've found them all?
  21. I got poison ivy and a very nasty prick under my finger nail earlier this year geocaching in the woods. Two things I can be assured probably won't happen searching for a micro on a playground.
  22. The Legend is a good GPSr. I own one along with many others here in the forum. If you are new to geocaching I think you'll like it too. It has a bunch of features that the "Yellow" doesn't and doesn't cost nearly as much as some of the more advanced systems out there. The topo program is just one of several put out by Mapsource. I have Metroguide and haven't used topo yet. I hope that helps.
