We finally went on our first Florida geocache and survived. We saw a dozen armadillos and one black (only) snake. I didn't go deep in the palmettos and my honey used the walking stick to push the leaves aside. I was a little freaked out, jumping at eveything that moved, but luckily I did not see one spider!! Thanks again for all the advice and thanks for telling me what a palmetto is. They are mentioned in almost every cache description and I had no clue what they were. I know now!! Thanks for the information! I AM a little nervous about spiders and snakes now, but at least I won't freak if I see an alligator...I guess I will make my husband go first. We will be caching in the Tampa area this month. Being from New England, I am not familiar with the flora and fauna threat of Florida. Are alligators really prevalent or extremely rare? Are there any killer spiders I should watch out for? Snakes? Helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. The Travel Channel is re-airing the show at 1:00 am. The show is called "World's Best: Lost Treasure." It shows Jeremy planting a cache and the Roths looking for it. It was very cool! Good job! I like to remember one man's trash is another man's treasure. So far, my favorite cache item found was a light saber pen that came in a cereal box. I've found two so far and they rock. Someone else might look at them and think they were junk (good thing for me, since I could scoop 'em up). We do hope to find diamonds one day in a cache, but we're happy just to find the cache! I do however see the point with children, especially their first time out. On 11/11, I picked up a travel bug. When I went to log the pick up, the TB shows up in a different cache than where I got it from. I waited for someone to log that they moved it, but now it's been 9 days and and still no log. What do I do now? (Please feel free to Markwell me, I've searched but couldn't find anything definitive. I am curious if there is a fence on the Highway preventing access from there. I know around here, alot of highways have fences bordering them.
