  1. I definately think that we should just use United Kingdom, England; United Kingdom, Northern Ireland; United Kingdom, Scotland and United Kingdom, Wales. Why? The names of them don't change, much like the names of the 50 states don't. However, the names of the administrative counties / regions / boroughs etc do. Whilst I can think of the benefits of searching queries by country (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) I can see no benefit of searching by county. Where I am in north Wales, geocacheuk.com thinks that we have two counties (we actually have 6, due to changes in 1996) and in those 'two' counties we have under 300 caches. Some counties are going to have even less, and in other areas (south east England springs to mind) there are many many caches. I like the idea of making the search more specific, if required, for the UK, but going down to a County level just turns it into a paper exercise of keeping records up to date and we'd only complain when X county is not available when it has been known as Y for the past 3 and half years anyhow! So, for reiteration, stick with the names of the four home nations. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Thanks for the opportunity to vent! I think I would prefer us to be split into counties as those of us that live next to a large inlet of water, The Wash, the Humber etc. May have a cache listed as being 20 miles away but to drive to the cache around the wash may be over 100 miles. if I could specify my home county of norfolk I could get those closest to drive to. There are lots of examples around the country because we live on an island. When i get notification of events the closest to me are usualy in Holland
  2. I think you'll find that those of us who run pocket queries would rather specify which counties we want rather than getting all of the UK If you live close to an expance of water (Like the wash) and run a querie for the closest caches I will get some in Lincolnshire which are over 100 miles away to drive but about 20 by the crow, much easier to specify "Norfolk" There are other places like cornwall and wales that would have the same prob.
  3. Well the ones that find it EASY must be over 45, Me I am finding it Hard but that's because I'm so young
  4. If you go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/ and look under "my account details" you should see you cache under the heading "My caches waiting for review"
  5. lever knobs are different colours, red in one blue in the other, The left hand pictures has some little coloured squares where the right hand one has some screwheads The knobs to the left of robots left shoulder are just cicles in the right picture his helmet has yellow bits in the right pic but grey in the other me thinks Nediam is struggling with various quizzes so is posting them on here so we get the answers for him
  6. I get out of tomtom whilst leaving it running by pressing the contacts button on the bottom of the ppc, this opens up the address book but gives you the start bar (not perfect but it works) on memorymap click menu today screen. I think you can change the buttons at the bottom to your own choice of programs so maybe one could be for MM and another for TT.
  7. Thank you rosies rangers it seems as if you are right, my map setting.cfg file was read only, unfortunately I haven't got a card reader but by connecting my ppc to my pc and a bit of cut, paste change and paste back I think i have solved the problem. I am now sending you a BIG HUG Edited cos I can't spell
  8. The battery will only work for about 4 hours constant use , I top it up between caches charging in the car, others have bought a seperate charges which uses AA's to rechage it on the go, but if you only turn it on when you need it and turn it off when you don't it should see you through
  9. 1, 8 months 2 I usually cache within 25 miles of where I live, If I am away I try and grab a few close ones though whilst I was on holiday in Somerset I travel to Devon to purley help a Tb complete it's mission (I'm glad I did the views for that cache were fantastic)cache page 3 My best caching experience, finding my first cache and finaly finding a difficult one took 3 attempts at this one and finding river cottage The worst are DNF's I am I have 1 cache an hours drive away, 1st attemp the co-ords were wrong, 2nd attempt the buggy got a punture half way round, 3rd attempt DNF though i will be back 4 getting into the countryside, finding new places 5 I love multi caches (as long as they are not too hard) where i have to solve clues or answer questions to find the final co-ords) I don't like them if they involve more than 1 visit, 6 my old GPS always lost it's signal under trees which was very frustrating so I have just purchased a better one, but without loosing it's signal i would start looking from about 30ft away. 7 didn't know 8 not cached long enough but I thing people are more willing as they become aware of it ( the denies i have had have been from people that hav'nt heard of it) I have also sent you a seperate email sent before i saw these questions Fi aka The Nutters
  10. I have a PPC (Mio P550) loaded with among other programmes TomTom and Memorymap. My proplem is that even though I have entered my home co-ords into TomTom and saved it ,whenever I go back to the program it hasn't remembered it . I Always exit TomTom before using ither programes (to save memory and to enable the GPS to be used for memory map) is that the prob? Should I always have TomTom running in the background to keep the settings or have I got an unusual blip? (it does remember all my other preferences just not the location ones). Any help greatly appretiated
  11. I really enjoyed doing your caches and live in Mid Norfolk, I would love to adopt them
  12. Hi I have a Mio P550 with a 2GB card, on the card I have tomtom, cachemate and Memory map. The tomtom is fantastic though I have to exit the application to use memorymap (i haven't got gpsgate) and I found it won't keep my home co-ords, not a prob for me though cos I know where i live . Sound is plenty load enough too, I can here it over the radio
  13. The minutes of the GAGB committee meeting can be read [edited to remove link as the GAGB seems to be infected bya link to a "spy site"] Lactodorum
  14. I use John Cleese, "Sharp Right ooooo" the girls keep telling me to go the wrong way so they can here the "turn around when possible"
  15. I went out caching this morning loaded up with my new gadgets, I put my GPS on the dash to obtain a signal whilst i sorted out my new MP3 then put my PPC in my pocket picked up my rucksack and went round the back of the car to retreive my walking stick, when i tuned back to pick up my GPS is wasn't there , i looked around to see if I had dropped in but it was nowhere to be seen, I can only assume someone nicked it in the seconds that my back was turned (I didn't hear anything cos of the MP3). I did manage to do the cache using my ppc and memory map but now I'm without a gps . Is there any Norfolk cachers that happen to have a spare I could borrow until I have sorted out a new one (thinking of getting one from america to save money) On a better note the cache was a FTF
  16. Yeah one has arrived in the depth of Norfolk we may be thin on the gound for jeeps (yet to see a yellow or green) but we have at least one Unite for diabetes this ones headed for Santana do Ipanema, Brazil
  17. A Carol from our Canine Cacher Walkin' in a Doggie Wonderland Dog tags ring, are you listenin'? In the lane, snow is glistenin'. It's yellow, NOT white - I've been there tonight, Marking up my winter wonderland. Smell that tree? That's my fragrance. It's a sign for wand'ring vagrants; "Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty! Marked up as my winter wonderland." In the meadow dad will build a snowman, following the classical design. Then I'll lift my leg and let it go Man, So all the world will know it's mine-mine-mine! Straight from me to the fencepost, flows my natural incense boast; "Stay off of my TURF, this small piece of earth, I mark it as my winter wonderland." Author Unknown
  18. Thank you mouse and BandMandAandA I now have bookmarked a couple due to come close
  19. is there any way to do a search for the bugs without trawling through 1000 pages to find the ones with a destination near me? Also is there a way to see where all the bugs are on a map? the Nutters are NOT technical
  20. the only other thing I can think of is do a soft reboot, Mine came up with blue dots when i transfered the data but the next day when i turned it on the icons were there. if that doesn't work reread this thread as i managed to sort mine out somehow using the info contained in this thread.
  21. I most certainly won't be caching I usually cache alone or with small children and this person obviously goes off the beaten track and would rather not encounter him. Even though I don't live or cache near Ipswich I am concerned that he will move to another area with less Police presence.
