New Geocacher seeks help which GPS to buy
Tiger-Eyes replied to pauliesg's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I got my 60 csx from america with no probs and £9 tax to pay, I would recomend you look at ebay.com rather than ebay.co.uk as the american sellers will still export to uk but buy it now prices are cheaper then .co.uk prices (don't ask me why cos I don't know) -
ooo thats given me an idea

Hello colour bax and welcome to caching If you look on the cache page that you attempted you should see some stars which will tell you the difficulty level of the cache, it will also tell you the terrain, we usually recomend people start with 1 1's (1 star for each) The cache page should also tell you the size of the container, micro's are very small and are harder to find then say an ammo box. Do try again choosing an easier cache. You could also try posting for help on the adopt a newbie thread ( I looked through it and emailed a locar who had previously offered to help in my area) and a local cacher may offer to come out with you to offer advice. I hope this helps Fiona

Paperless Caching - What do I need to know?
Tiger-Eyes replied to *mouse*'s topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I started off with a cheap £10 Palm Using GSAK and cachemate and this was plenty to get me started paperless caching without a big outlay. I've since upgraded to a ppc (Mio P550) so that I could use Sat Nav on it in my car and Memory map out on the field, following other threads for advice I found it to be the most recomended choice, I have had very few problems with GSAK or cachemate and when I do run into problems (usualy from lack of knowledge) I ask on the forums here or GSAK has it's own very good forums too -

From a quick look at your links it seems as if the first one is charging that fee to LOOK at your unit and then will charge you even more to repair it, I would want to get a quote for doing the actual repair before forking out any money Good Luck

After the dodgy fuel round here wrecked my car (I'll never pay cash for fuel again ) My man and I bit the bullet and bought a new one Andy liked the idea of a personal number plate for it and we found this was available GE04 NUT it was only £341 but he won't let me have it I reckon its well worth it especially if I could put a tb tracking number in the small print underneath what do you think?

How did you get into Caching?
Tiger-Eyes replied to Carlos & The Birdie Crew's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I saw SP's piece on Countryfile and thought that looks like fun but did no more about it, then I saw another piece on my local news "About Anglia" and this rekindled my interest, I went on ebay and managed to get a yellow etrex and after 1 DNF i tried another cache which I found and then was hooked. -
Thank you Jaz I'll check it out

Upgrade from an Etrex - What next..
Tiger-Eyes replied to Birdman-of-liskatraz's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I upgraded from a yellow etrex to a 60csx, purely because of the reception capabilities, they can be bought on ebay from america for just over £200 I paid £221 + £9 vat (though I did have to pay parcel force for the privelage of them paying my vat ) -
But some spares With my palm I lost the stlus within the first week of using it, when I got my mio I bought some spares staight away and haven't needed them YET
