  1. Hi Everyone, Just a quick question. While in Alaska I picked up a Geocoin and I used my cell phone to log it. I somehow didn't use the 'retrieved from cache name' drop down and now the entry in the trackable has Aeowyn & Koric retrieved it from no cache name... is there a way to fix this? Thanks Steve
  2. We'd be interested as my better half rode horses bareback all her young life. I'd love to see the design.
  3. First Geocoins I've ever received in the mail. WOW!! Mother Nature Watches Us CITO Gold Autumn Cache is King The Queen of Caching The Caching Ace. This could/is addicting.
  4. Yes, the artist is deceased about 25 years. His paintings are all over the web when I do a image search. BTW Fox, love your designs. Steve
  5. Hi Everyone, Very new to the Geocoin forum and new to the creation of personal geocoins. I have an idea for a new coin but don't know how to go about finding out if I need a copyright permission or not. The theme I'm thinking about choosing is related to art and some paintings. So my question is what are the steps, guidelines in finding out if I need a permission and if I do, how to request permission. Thanks, Steve
  6. Wow.. excellent advice .. I appreciate your time to put this together
  7. Hi Everyone, Just a quick question about what are some steps people use to find micros. I seem to have problems looking for these small caches. Thanks
  8. Playgrounds are kind of not good places for scary old men with what look like digital cameras to be skulking around. Kind of the reason for the 'schools' wording in the guidelines. Pluss kids are so inquisitive, a cache, even a pico, would only last 1 or 2 finders before getting taken by them. Thanks Ray.. you're right.. appreciate the info
  9. Thanks so much for taking the time and answering this question. I was thinking of just starting with some micros in my area where there are playgrounds etc. Thanks again everyone
  10. Hi Everyone, We are finally thinking about hiding some caches and I've read the guidelines but have a question regarding the following paragraph: Did you seek permission from the land owner or manager? If you place a cache on private land, you must ask permission before hiding your cache. If you place it on public lands, contact the land manager to find out about any rules or restrictions. Please note: You will be in violation of federal regulation by placing a cache in any area administered by the National Park Service (US). The National Park regulations are intended to protect the fragile environment, and historical and cultural areas found in the parks. The question is land owner/manager on public lands. What exactly is the definition of public lands? Would this be a playground or small park in my area or something more than that? If this is, how would I ask the owner for permission? Thanks.. sorry for the dumb question.
  11. I experienced some issues with loading Cachemate into my Palm PDA in Vista and thought I'd share what worked for me. My Palm is a LifeDrive and I've been gleaning ideas from many different sources and here is what is working for me. If yours is not a LifeDrive, I'm not sure how you transfer the files in #6 below. 1) Install the software which came with the PDA first, then install the new Palm software v6.22. 2) Change the compatibility mode to Windows XP in the properties section for every Palm app installed with v6.22. (this allows hotsync to work correctly) 3) Uncheck "Install to palm after conversion" checkbox in Export CacheMate PDB File dialog (because Quick Install has been replaced with Install Tool in new Palm Software so GSAK's launch fails) 4) Make a note of the directory where you are exporting to (in the PDB file to create list) 5) Connect the Palm 6) Open LifeDrive manager on my PC. (This is the part I am not sure about with non-LifeDrive Palms ... I'm assuming that the software that comes with other palms has similar capabilities) 7) Create a Launcher folder in the Palm subdirectory if there isn't one already 8) Go to the Launcher folder 9) Click the Copy Files from PC button 10) Copy the .pdb file from whereever the export directory in #4 into the Launcher folder - this copies the .pdb file to the PDA 11) Open Cachemate 12) If nothing happens, select Rescan Mem Card in Option menu 13) Exit Cachemate 14) Reopen Cachemate and it should note the memory card change, click OK 15) Import dialog appears and you can start import
  12. I'd be happy to check for you.. looks like it went missing in May 2006.. I check it out when I get out to Olathe.
  13. Question about TB Etiquette. I picked up a TB in California that had a mission to visit 4 states. One on each US coast and then return to Ohio. The question is this: I live in Kansas and am going to Florida in a few days. Is it alright for me to find a local cache and place this in the cache and take it right out again and log it locally in Kansas, then take it to Florida so it can then go on it's way to Ohio and finish it's mission? Thanks
  14. I picked up a geocoin from a cache and went to the trackable site and logged that I found it. But when I look in my inventory the coin does not show up. Is this normal and if not.. how do I fix this? Thanks.. Newbie Koric
  15. I picked up and logged a geocoin but when I look in my inventory the coin does not show up.. is that normal?
  16. I have a Garmin 76CSx. I've been changing to off rode mode and then use the map until I'm within 20 feet of the cache coordinates. Do you use the compass then or at all to drill down or?
  17. I've read several logs and many people refer to a personal search or hunting method to zero in on a cache. Does anyone want to share their unique methods of honing in on a cache? Thanks, Koric
  18. I'm not sure you can enter coordinates into the Nuvi... We have a Garmin Streetpilot for our car and I can't enter latitude/longitude very easily.
  19. Hi All.... Ok I'm a newbie and I just got my new GPS. I want to go out and find caches but want to be ready to exchange items if I can. Some of the sites don't give a theme. So can anyone give me some advice on what to take with me on a Geocache, Thanks Koric
  20. Yno, I think they're talking about the actual icon that displays on the GPSr screen. There is the Geocaching (Treasure Chest) and the default Waypoint (Blue Dot or something?... ...I forget.) icon. I believe you are talking about them showing up in the search list of both Waypoints and Geocaches. There isn't a way to remove Geocaches from the search list for Waypoints. All the Garmin's Geocaching tool does is allow you to ONLY see Geocaches there as well as some basic tools for marking them found or not. Did that make sense? Can you answer me another question. When I use GSAK or EasyGPS I download the .loc file from geocaching.com.. then just upload to my GPSmap76CSx and they will show up in the Waypoint and Geocaching search icons? Thanks, Steve
  21. Thanks I appreciate the information. Steve
  22. I'm having a problem when I upload waypoints, I want them to appear under the Geocache icon. Currently they are being stored under the waypoint icon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
