  1. I must admit when we started just over a year ago, to find 1 cache on a day out was great! We tended to go for the longer walks and enjoyed the walk/view/environment as much as the caching. I know we started to cache differently after we reached 200 finds. We looked for groups of caches to try and get at least 10 finds to add to our tally and to get to the next milestone asap. Our experiences over the last few months has been a far higher percentage of micro finds. We have hidden a few caches this year and yes quite a few are micros and I think this is in part because we (Beetleduo that is) may have gotten into a trap. I think I have gotten stuck in thinking (or worse assuming!) cachers mainly want to get to the next milestone (so many records and congrats threads in the forums) therefore you need to hide in series rather than individuals. There is a cost to placing caches, micros are cheep and if you putting out a series they will properly always have a high percentage of micros. Maybe this is just how caching develops over time? Do other areas/regions show a similar pattern? I can feel a GSAK macro coming on to reveal any such trends.
  2. I know it doesn't fit in your pocket but how many megapixel is yours?
  3. We are the proud owners of the 100th DNF - we called in today to check on it as the last 2 logs (last one being the 100th DNF) gave cause for concern. Well the cache has gone! Does the DNF still stand? Is it right that a DNF for something that was later found to be not findable should still count and find its way on to a cachers DNF list? We are happy to state that Paul did not - not find it - as it was not there to be not found in the first place.
  4. Ours arrived yesterday - we are very happy with them they are great! Thanks for taking the trouble to send the requested coin number - made it even more special - much appreciated.
  5. Just got my invoice - payment sent. Thanks for organising this coin and I am very sorry to hear of your sad news. (it is to be a little extra birthday gift for Angela - the Irish half of Beetleduo - Ballywilliam, Co Wexford)
  6. If I do... Menu > Overlay > Hide All > All ...then all data in the overlay is cleared off the screen Menu > Overlay > Show All > Track then just shows the track. I assume you have not re-sync with your desktop
  7. Just added my name to the list Just got two more Christmas prezzies to buy and I am all done for this year - phew! Hate leaving it so late...
  8. We made our 200th today - but 2000? WOW!!!!! Well done you guys - Isaac has been a geocacher we noted from the very beginning (with all the photos) and kind of got us into the whole thing... so "well done to both of you!" and thanks for the motivation to get into this great activity.
  9. Add another 2 to your order please - thanks
  10. Just luck I guess for us. I was upgrading my PDA and I received some vouchers for free software. I looked at a few apps over a 3 month period then I tried Navio (by Tiny Stocks). I couldn't figure it out - what was this compass thing... made no sense? Reading around the app I stumbled upon Geocaching, looked into it, put in our postcode and "wow!" what is this! Our nearest was a L!zzardpower cache, off we went, tried it, and again and again...(you know what I mean if you have tried these ones on the Mersey)... is it possible to get hooked without ever logging one? We did.
  11. Just got back from a break with family in Wexford and saw the program - well done! The day before the program we were telling our family/friends what we were doing going out early in the morning (we were caching of course) and we were quizzed up no end that night all about it. Though it was grand that they remembered it and to bother to watch the report. All added to a fun night telling various tales of Uk caches and trying to "boast" about Europe's First (GC43) and our new find in Inistioge (GCQ3VH). Wexford it not a cache rich area so I guess we will have to move off the East Coast next time although we came down through Carlow to drop in a TB. Well done again!
  12. There is an ammo near Oxford; I visited it on the way to Guildford just before Christmas and it was a great excuse to have a walk, take some air, log a find then feel refreshed and ready to face the M25!
  13. Yep, tried that. Can't get it to run on the O2 exec... but then it can't turn it on again anyway Jon Pressing any hardware button turns on the device, I don't turn mine off, I just use a combination of Backlight settings and config a button to toggle the screen. I don't want to power off as I want to preserve the bluetooth link to my gps.
  14. Get the freeware app "psShutXP" for the PocketPC to get an icon on the Today screen to turn the device off.
  15. I have the Otterbox and they are fantastic - not cheep but you do get what you pay for. I use my PDA on my cycle too and it has dropped off twice and bounced at 20mph for 50ft or more with no ill effects and yes it was in the rain too.
  16. Have a look at http://sourceforge.net/index.php
  17. You can export the caches that are presented in the list after you have set any filter (List > Filters > Set Active Filter). I am using verion 1.5 of GPXSonar and to do the export you go: Tools > Export Wpts / Notes > and select the output file format you want. I have not created each type of file but the names do not suggest you can create a GPX file but I could be wrong - try them out. I only ever used this to create a smaller LOC file to load into my navigation software.
  18. I would be grateful to receive one, please send to beetleduo@yahoo.co.uk Thanks in advance.
  19. Hi, Sorry this post is a bit late, don't visit forums too much. I use CoPilot with a Bluetooth GPS - works great for me. I can add custom POI (caches etc), it is one of the few SatNavs that do waypoint optimisation which is useful when you pick your caches for a day out and the route around them is planned for you. There are lots of other players but you make your own call on the solution. I was a PDA user for a few years before I added a SatNav solution all before I got started with Geocaching and became a paperless cacher so my choices had to fit in with other requirements. I enjoy utilising my PDA as much as possible (good ones don't come cheep) so feel this package brings even more return (and helps to justify my periodic upgrades!)
