  1. Just be real careful tearing into one. the capacitor for the magnetron can carry a 10,000 v punch if it's not discharged
  2. I'll be leaving a palmIIIxe in my 1st cache in a few weeks. I can't get it to talk to my mac so i hope someone else can go paperless with it. I got a zire 21 and sooooo love being paperless.
  3. I would say a wooden door stop... stick the door open so people travel bugs can come and more more easily I like it. Now you got me thinking. I would say more like a small flat rasp file.
  4. Im going to place my 1st cache in a couple of weeks. It's going to start out as a PMOC. My reason? The FTF prize is going to be a PalmIIIxe. I would prefer it goes to someone that can put it to use and go paperless. After a couple of weeks it will be switched to a nonPMOC. Jeff Barstool
  5. I also use GPSBabel for uploading to my Garmin instead of MacSimpleGPS http://www.gpsbabel.org/ Now if Garmin would come out with map support for Macs...... Us Mac users need to stick together in this Windoze world Jeff Barstool
  6. Unzip the .gpx file on your desktop. open macconvert. click on select file. from there you should be able to export to cachemate on your pda. Here a site that I found useful to get going with a mac http://home.alltel.net/tbone/macgps.html Good Luck Jeff Barstool
  7. G5/safari no problem with the zip for me Jeff Barstool
  8. all depends on what you are into. Urban micros? Hikes to an ammo can? There's alot of neat stuff here now that is cooling off. E-mail me with some specifics and I'll do what I can to help.
  9. at this point it's getting hard to remember but I think some one refered to a ( hypothetical ) ALR where you had to put a pair of panties on your head to get credit
  10. I'd like to thank everybody with on topic input both pro & con. The only way I see for this issue to be resolved to satisfy both camps here is for a new kind of cache log. One that acknowledges that the finder performed some additional task. Changing the type to a puzzle or mystery cache still does not allow for the accidental finder (for whatever reason) to accurately maintain his stats on this site. If this one issue can be resolved, all the others mentioned in this thread will go away. Thank you Fizzy for giving words to what I was trying to say. I'm realizing on this and a few other forum topics that I'm in group A. If I can get the coords and sign the log I don't think a find should be deleted. I'd be happy with tweaking the puzzle type for them to fit. I think that some cache owners would think twice about a silly (mandatory) ALR if they knew alot of people could and would filter them out on a PQ. I don't feel I should have to bypass a " traditional " cache. How is that different than making the task a request, and letting the finder mention in the log that he did the task? Are you suggesting getting credit twice? One for the find, and another for the task? If that is what it takes. The traditional yellow smilie would be to acknowledge the fact that the cache was found. The panty-smilie would be to acknowledge that some additional task was completed. There wouldn't be much of a difference for people in camp A, but those in camp B could point to the number of panty-smilies they have to show just how much fun they are having. credit twice? at the discretion of the cache owner? I'm I the only one that sees what a huge can of worms this would open? Maybe if the panty-smilies (or my fav- signal jumping thru a flaming hoop) were listed like the benchmark icons and didn't add to a find total. Not that I care about others find count but reading the forums shows that alot of people do. There seems to be alot of passion on both sides. I'd love to see some other ideas that might be able to resolve this to most everyones satisfaction. Jeff Barstool
  11. I'm cool with the discussion of ALR caches in general on this thread. If this thread is going to be 25% discussion , 75% mudslinging or scoring obscure debating points , I'd prefer it be locked. Jeff Barstool edit: stoopid quote thingys
  12. Much wisdom in that post I hope TPTB will lock this thread. This has drifted from a discussion to name calling. Not my intention at all. Sorry for being the simple OP with a (I thought, silly me) simple question. thanks for playing happy caching Jeff Barstool
  13. Jargon File bogus adj. 1. Non-functional. "Your patches are bogus." 2. Useless. "OPCON is a bogus program." 3. False. "Your arguments are bogus." 4. Incorrect. "That algorithm is bogus." 5. Unbelievable. "You claim to have solved the halting problem for Turing Machines? That's totally bogus." 6. Silly. "Stop writing those bogus sagas. objection noted
  14. not angry....I went and found it and logged as a dnf the walk was worth more than the smilie I would have rather logged it as a find since thats what I did
  15. I guess my point got lost somewhere in this thread
  16. I would love for the decision to be made that all ALRs should be listed as 'unknown'. Unfortunately, 'unknown' is defined in the guidelines as a cache that is not at the given coords. Therefore, a small amount of guideline rewrite would be necessary. I think that might just be a real solution to this particular cache. The classification may just need to be changed or the wording changed at least. Still wondering exactly what the wording was since I've only seen one sentence out of context so far. complete context follows: "It would be great if this was your century (100th) cache find. This is a locked cache. The combination is xx, xx, xx. To claim this cache, you must have at least 99 caches. If you don't have at least 99 caches, then your find will be deleted on this site. The park is open 8 AM to 8 PM. The gate to go to "A" mountain opens at 9 AM." combo deleted by me. it's listed on the cache page
  17. I've traded e-mails with the cache owner easy if you have 99 finds. plus the whole elite thing bugs me. If you don't want me to log your cache, make it a puzzle (I'm not too bright),Or put it 10 miles down a difficult trail (I'm fat also) . Putting out a traditional and then saying I'll delete your log just because your a newbie just seems wrong to me. Maybe one day I'll get to hang with the cool kids Jeff Barstool edit: fat fingers
  18. I don't care for urban micros. I just don't like slinking around in Spy vs Spy mode. Instead of wanting them banned , I just bought a 4wd. Over the hills and thru the woods to ammo cans i go. To each their own. Jeff Barstool
  19. I think that if it were me, I'd pick option 6: 6) Find the cache but log it as a DNF: " I searched for the cache and signed the logbook, but since I am not allowed it call it a "Find", the only other logical choice is a "Did Not Find"." I really, really liked option 6 so thats what I did "Found this cache afterwork today. Teambarstool only has 40 finds so I'm honoring the cache owners wishes and logging as a DNF. L TeamBarstool shotglass T Green Jeep TB I'll log as found when I to 100 The hunt is more fun than the smilie[] TFTH" thank everyone for your opinions pro & con happy caching Jeff Barstool
  20. I'm sorry if you object. The difference to me is that if I don't own a boat, or am not physically able, thats one thing. If I pay my dues to Groundspeak, can get the coords, sign the log., why delete me? Thats a bit different than not being able or not wanting to.
  21. received a reply from the cache owner: "xxxxxxx xxxxxx cache is simply for those who have a few (99 or more) caches under their belts. Almost like being in an elite group. I'm thinking of putting one out for those with 499 or more. I can't sign in the cache myself, but then you're not suppose to sign your own caches anyway. This is not a new concept. I have seen it before and the advisor gave me some tips as how others do it. Hope you are able to get to this cache." I didn't mean to rant ,rave or whine. I'm not calling for rules.I even agree it's within the guidelines.I just don't think the added requirements are in the spirit of the game. 1. Take something from the cache 2. Leave something in the cache 3. Write about it in the logbook Maybe I just like simple , and it's not in my nature to be impressed with elites anywho.. I didn't want to stir the pot. I was just wondering what others thought.
  22. Why not just go find it for the fun of it, and not log it? To me it's just as much fun to find the cache without logging it on the internet... +1 really isn't good for anything anyway. This is what I'll probably do. I guess I can sign the log, with an opinion, nicely.
